doh! ...it was late at night when I wrote that and I have a short attention span, lol ...but my sentiment still holds, imangi and critical thought will make an interesting and fun combo
I think this looks pretty cool. After watching the video, it will probably be an instant buy for me. At first I was hoping it would be like a geodefense storm 2, which I hope is in the works.
Looks cool but so shallow, that I can tell from just viewing the video, that Ill find it boring in less than 30 seconds .
I still can't view the video from my phone. I guess Youtube hasn't converted it yet huh? EDIT: nevermind Visuals look really good, but it does seem like it could get repetitive pretty quickly.
What a cute team up. It will be an instant buy if for no other reason to encourage more of these Supergroup/All-Star Team developments!
Hahah - hurray! We're cute! Thanks for all the comments, guys. It's great to get your first impressions. This has been a really fun collaboration with David, and geoSpark is kind of an amazing game that's addictive as hell. It definitely falls under the realm of "casual game" - but so does Doodle Jump, and I'm probably clocked more hours with that game than any other The good casual games are the ones that are easy to learn, but hard to master. The rules are simple and you can figure it out in 2 seconds. But there's a lot of hidden complexity that keeps you coming back for more, and keeps you getting better at it as you learn. The chaining here is key. Chains is how you get mega points. However, when you're making a long chain, you risk letting a collision happen. So you have to weigh the risk of collision against the benefit of the chain mega points. Also, you're running incredibly complex calculations in your head to figure out the best path to take between sparks. This is something our brains do better than computers, and it's a very interesting problem that really engages the player. Finally, there will be a number of special/bonus elements that add a lot to the strategy of the game. We're still working those out, but things like Bomb Sparks, Shield Sparks, etc, really make you think quickly as you're playing. Happy to answer any other questions/comments any of you have. And really excited about geoSpark! Hoping for a mid-November submission, so not too much longer now!
I'm seeing a little "Super Collider" in this but love how in this game there are opportunities to just pass a level or get huge bonuses! I like games that allow you to shoot for extra style points but don't require it, if that makes sense.
this game looks really cool, especially with the graphics of geo-defense! i wil buy it anyway because i love harbor master and geo-defense though. are there any powerups?
For now, it just takes one collision to lose. So no lives. I like it that way - you really have to focus! Yup, there's going to be some special sparks with special powers. We're still brainstorming all the different types. We'll definitely have a Bomb Spark, and some kind of Shield Spark. If you guys have any ideas, we'd love to hear them!
It's not stage/level based. It's about trying to progress as far as you can, with the difficulty ever increasing. But there is a sense of progression as you go, since new elements come in as you go further.
how about a anti gravity powerup, where the warp that i heard about in the podcast went away for a moment, or a Sudden Death Mode, where you get triple points, but if you die, its game over assuming there are lives (copied from 33rd Division)
Interesting idea about the gravity thing. Maybe it can even reverse the gravity, so the sparks repel each other for a while? Maybe we'll try it. We're actually working on the special elements right now. There's only one "life" in the game, so we can't play with lives. But that's actually really good. In my original prototype, there were 3 lives, but when David implemented geoSpark, he changed it to just 1 life, and that actually improved the game tremendously. Made it much more intense and fast paced, which is how we like it
Ok, we now have a hard deadline for submitting geoSpark. Going to try to get this in by next Friday - November 20. Eek - 1 week to finish everything up!
