My brother wants to "Code" Minecraft mods in Java, so what do you think of that? Screw coding / programming.

I think he wants to program or develop Minecraft mods. I hate to break it to you, but that takes a year or two of knowledge to be able to do it.
Yeah, it's not really for making any actual games; you are very limited on what you can do. But now you know how things work, now that you've used it. If you actually program a game, you pretty much have your freedom. You can make 3D games, make awesome games like this one (Geometry Dash), etc. Dreamzy told me that Unity was a good place to program 2D and 3D games at.

No, you can download it for free. The only time you DO have to buy it is when you want the Plus version, or Pro version. Code is what makes up Geometry Dash though. :/ So you wanna know how to beat Airtime? Practice.

Eclipse isn't meant for games. If you want to use java, take a look at jmonkeyengine.org Unity is free to make and sell games for revenue unless you or the company you work for makes over $100,000 a year... Which I highly doubt And yes, we should get back on topic now
