Just got to wave 144 on easy 10, best on OpenFeint... hopefully when I wake up tomorrow someone will have beaten me to give me incentive to try and do better =). I was juggling the rightmost blaster between that position and the one up and to the right of it... i was just slightly too slow at 144 but I think it should be possible to keep it going at least a few more levels. I still can't figure out if thumper towers are worth anything or not, I felt like creeps were dying quicker right after I got it to level 7. Also, anyone able to figure out an algorithm for the pathing yet? Its not always the shortest path, and in one case the creeps did something different after I sold a blaster and changed it to a different tower type.
Just an idea for the icon - how about using the same blue tower image as the original game, just slightly smaller with a green hexagonal line around it. Also, if we have to have the "Get More" button, please move it to the About screen where it's much less likely to be accidentally touched. As others have said, I'm sure the vast majority of GD Swarm players will already be owners of the original. I was originally concerned that I wouldn't like the free roaming style as I much prefer the defined paths in GeoDefense to the other TD games I've played. But I think I'm really going to love this new version.
+1.. The font on the GD:S icon really makes it look cheap. Other than that, I have no complaints. Great game
Wow this game is a lot harder than the first game. In the original I didn't fail a level until hard mode. So far i've to restart over half the Easy levels. And I still can't pass Medium 1. I think the biggest issue for me is figuring out the paths of the creeps, especially after you block their normal route. It is pretty much a lot of trial and error. There was one instance I made a corridor of towers along their normal route, but the creeps were "smart" enough to take a different path! Very frustrating. Anyway can anyone give me a hint for Medium 1. Thx!
Phew... I'm ony Easy 5 and that's the first which makes me fail . Well, I keep up . I noticed two bugs so far and one minor annoyance. Bug 1: The game keeps playing when you press the Off-Switch of the iPhone. I lost some levels due to that. This was also mentioned in this thread by another person, so I can confirm it and it's reproducable (iPhone 2G, OS 3.1). Bug 2: I came across this one yesterday, when I had no Wifi or Edge. OpenFeint wasn't able to connect. It seems, that in this situation also the local scores don't get saved. I had to replay the level I just won nearby a Wifi to get a saved _local_ score. Can anyone confirm this? Bug 2.1: When OpenFeint doesn't find a network it seems to shut down completely. Even when you have a connection it still says, that there no network available. I think this is as OpenFeint issue and has nothing to do with geoDefense… Annoyance: Yes, it's the icon. It's really ugly. Just use the new tower with a little bit of the hex grind and everything will be fine. Regardless of that, I love the game. I wrote an article for it at http://www.taptoplay.de/2009/09/14/geodefense-swarm-ist-erschienen/ (German). It's longer and more detailed than most reviews around, but no review, which is a bit strange, because it's just the announcement that GDS is released. A review will come after I play for more days. I'd love to give 5/5, but not with the saving bugs around.
Oof, I was most definitely doin it wrong. I was trying to drag from the vortex tower *to* the tower I wanted to link. It works much better doing it the correct way. Thanks for the video!
What happens when you link a tower to a vortex tower? I saw the little particles that explode everywhere when you destory a creep being absorbed by the vortex tower and the energy (originally 0/250) go up but then it drains to 0 again. thump towers seem useless...
if you connect the tower it will show how much energy the tower has recieved from the vortex tower. when the tower is fully loaded (like when the energy counter is 100/100 it will shoot one powerfull shot that does alot more damage than a normal shot! )
I think I found another bug. Can anyone confirm this? 1. Play with headphones 2. Pause the game 3. Switch the iPhone "off" 4. Get a call 5. Ignore the call 6. Slide the iPhone on again 7. Start playing. Now the sound is gone until you completely restart the game. Edit: Oh, come on, here's another bug: Pause a game, leave the app, start the app again, it will crash in the "Warning meltdown" text. Restart the app and your saved state is gone. This really sucks. As good as the game is, it does not feel stable and now I'm afraid of loosing my game state every time I play this game. Sucks. Not. Good.
As a fan of the original GD I'm enjoying GD:S as well. I agree that the icon doesn't seem to fit the art but that's not a big deal to me. I am experiencing 2 issues though. Using an iPhone 3G with the latest os I'm getting occasional CTD (crash to desktop) upon starting the game, so far hasn't happened in the middle of a level. Occasionally in the middle of a level I'm also getting a massive freeze and video distortion which eventually resumes back to normal after a second or two. Anyone else? I periodically reboot my device and clear cache/history/cookies.
Bought this game the second I saw it was available, and haven't regretted it for a second. Much like the original, I'm finding there's a learning curve involved (though no noob, I'm far from hardcore in the TD department). But again, as with the first game, I feel like I get a little closer with each try, so it's more addicting than frustrating, despite the difficulty, or perhaps even because of it. Still, count me as another who hates the icon. For me, though, the problem isn't the script chosen, but rather that there's text at all. Under each icon on my phone, there's room for the app's name. Put it there. Having the title on there twice just looks excessive, imho. For this specific case, I think a different tower, In the same style/size as the first, would be best, so they'd look nice side-by-side
