"I can honestly see why this was such a big hit on Playdate" -- Touch Arcade, Game of the Week. -- Generations is a challenging puzzle game that has you organizing family portraits on the wall of a living room, a task requiring a surprising amount of strategy, planning, and thinking ahead. Each time you hang three (or more) portraits of any family members of the same age group next to each other, their portraits will combine into a new portrait of an older family member. The current portrait is on the table to the left of the couch, and the next portrait rests on the middle of the couch. Bonus portraits will appear on the table to the right of the couch. The game begins with storks. Three storks combine into an infant. Three infants turn into a child, and so on until you combine three portraits of the matriarchs and patriarchs of the family. When this happens, you've created a Generation, and all portraits you've hung on the wall will automatically age up and the spaces occupied by the seniors will open back up, ready for a new generation of descendants. Portraits can only be hung next to other portraits, and you'll need to think ahead to optimize their placement in order to chain matches and not strand any. Harder than you think. But at times I feel like later in the game the pieces coming can make or break you. But I could be wrong. Maybe better placement. My best is 4 generations. It’s very hard to put down. The matching of family portraits mechanic make this otherwise great puzzle game that much better. Took me 2 or 3 games until things started to click and now I’m making strategic decisions almost without thinking about it. In case you miss it like I did for a while, there’s a (very small) undo button in the bottom left. That was a game changer quite literally. It shares a lot of DNA and if you are strong at that, most of the skills transfer over and you will find this too simple and easy. There isn't enough pressure from the game to kill you so high scores will mostly be an endurance test to not mess up. On my first run I have 9k points and am still in no danger of dying. But there is room for both in my opinion. I am enjoying this as my new time waster. Will it have the longevity of triple town? Maybe not. But it’s still very fun. Yeah, I keep coming back to this. It’s very hard to put down. The matching of family portraits mechanic make this otherwise great puzzle game that much better. Took me 2 or 3 games until things started to click and now I’m making strategic decisions almost without thinking about it.
