I thought it would be nice to have a special thread to discuss the Apple Arcade service itself rather than posting questions or comments in various specific game threads. Comments like if you like subscription services for gaming, if you're going to subscribe to Apple Arcade or not, if you think it's worth the $4.99 a month or not, etc. If you have comments on specific games, please find that game's thread.

Also this thread will be used for any comments related to our Apple Arcade forum itself, such as if there's a game on Apple Arcade that needs a thread made for it, or if there's an error or something with one of the threads. Any of that sort of stuff feel free to comment about it here or even private message me and I'll look into it.

    Thanks, and enjoy!

An impressive initial line-up, covering many genres, from some great developers. Looks to be well worth $4.99 per month, though surely that will have to increase over time as more games are added.

If I understand correctly, iOS 13 will not be officially released for iPad until 30 September so will have to wait a while.

Depends on which device. Techradar advises :-

    • iOS 13 release date: Thursday, September 19 (usually after 10am PST)
    • iOS 13 golden master version: It's out now for beta testers
    • iPadOS comes out later: Monday, September 30
    • You can still download the iOS 13 beta right now

So far from all of the games I’ve downloaded the subscription will be more than worth it! I’ve got 24 AA games on my phone currently and I deleted 3 others already after trying them.

Anyone else feel like file sizes are gigantic though? Some games you see and know it’ll be big but others have surprised me by looking like a simple game but begin huge. Like the word laces I think it was called, I’ve never seen a word game be 1.6gb!

I think at the price point it’s a no brainier for all enthusiastic iOS gamers. (See below)

A lot of the arguments you hear against subscription as a model is that you never own it so therefore it may be taken away.

If you are to have faith in any business not crashing and burning for now it’s probably Apple; if it’s the concept of non-ownership that bothers then no level of security will assuage that.

Does it work for us? It’s a pretty good start.
Does it work for the devs? Again, time will tell (money up front for development certainly can’t have hurt this aspect).
Does it work for Apple? I imagine that they’ve gone into this with their eyes open.

I bought an Xbox 1 pretty far on in its cycle. It came bundled with a year of GamePass and it’s been awesome because I’d missed so much.

iOS is different because I’m over a decade in and if it’s a well developed premium product I probably already have it or would have it on release. It’s the exclusive to Arcade aspect that draws me in and as I’m a serial purchaser of the good stuff the financial benefit is the cherry on top.

Enterprise such as Playond is subscription done in a predatory fashion, as are the individual games trying their luck; GameClub, as much as I hope it succeeds, is going to appeal to a niche. Maybe only Apple have the oomf to make it work.

I guess we’ll see; in the meantime it’s not looking too shabby.

I’m pretty pumped for Apple Arcade. It seems a little lame but it’s like Apple seems to be finally flying in to save the day for iOS premium customers and gamers with this valuable service. I’m really impressed with the lineup so far.
I really hope this works out for everyone

A notification when a new Arcade release hits would be a welcome addition.

I’ve done a feedback; do the same and spread the word.

As far as I know Apple Arcade is iOS 13 only.

Also because I don't think I made this clear before, only mods/admins can create threads in this forum. I figured it would cut down on this forum getting spammed and Apple Arcade is a specific set of games anyway. If anyone notices a game on AA that doesn't have a thread here, PM me or post about it in this thread.

I *think* there's an option to get a notification and/or email when a new thread is posted in a specific forum, i.e. this forum, but I'll have to dig into it more.

That would be most excellent but what I had in mind was the AppStore doing it.
(Edit: Just re-read my post; totally not clear on this vital point!)

I know that’s a bit beyond your remit but pretty much everyone posting here right now will have the Apple Feedback app so I was hoping they’d get involved.

Don’t let that put you off your excellent idea; it would essentially achieve the same goal.

I posted this in the old Arcade thread.

Anyone else getting that flat, untextured surfaces vibe with a lot of the 3D games? A bit Monument Valley-esque?

I like what I’m seeing. I would like for games to still be available for individual purchase.

I do like the idea of this showing that the premium game community is large & games can make money. We will see how this all plays out.
