LOL, there is no "legal standing" when using rom images. You are breaking the law just as much as someone who doesn't own a single one of the games that they are playing roms for. Not that I care, and I'm using this (quite illegally, lol) as well, but I just wanted to point that out. It's no more "right" for you to use it than anyone else.

Anyway, I think it's pretty funny how this is ok on this forum, but I've seen people banned for less blatant piracy related posts. Oh well, this is still an awesome emulator and it's nice to be able to talk about it on here.

There is a lot of double standards. This is similar to many other forums out there, eg its 'okay' to talk about 20 year old games and how to play them, but if this was for say a PSP/DS emulator then it'll probably be quite different.

I think games which are still for sale (DS/PSP games ?) brings a ton of red flags obviously, but old old games like gb/gba games seem to be treated differently

But yeah talk of pirating current iOS apps i'm not surprised people get banned/put in time-out. Granted 25 year old gameboy games are still not 'ours to own' but its quite different to that of people cracking current iOS apps

I gave it another go after a clean uninstall via the app, then a double check via file explorer. Rebooted, reinstalled just fine.

Some things I think I should have mentioned originally:

    1) This skin is for iPhone 5+ with retina display
    2) No iPad support

If you don't meet that criteria, the skin won't work or won't even show up.

I'll work on the other resolutions and devices tonight. This new arrangement has been working very well. In addition to the relocated dpad and buttons, I've also extended the edges of the dpad and buttons by 15 pixels. There is some overlap as a result, but it makes for smoother transitions to that a+b button and a more suitable dpad for sausage fingers like mine.

Eventually I will redo the button graphics rather than tweak Mithical's, and post the assets for others to make their own.

Is Mithical's landscape skin working for anyone else who has an ipad? It doesn't show up when I install it on mine.

This is obviously US orientated site but here in Holland downloading is not illegal. Uploading on the other hand is. Obviously the EU isn't too happy about this but as we speak downloading anything i want is perfectly legal here. I always wandered why i should be banned for speaking of things that are legal here, but thought it wiser to just shut up ;). Anyway,gba4ios is awesome and all the rom's are just downloads. If anyone really feels they are doing anything illegal they could change there country settings to the netherlands. Guilt gone!
    Cheers.

Yup totally agree :) . I only have like 2 or 3 gba games on mine. There's so many classic GB/GBC games it's just crazy. . . I really enjoy Mortal Kombat II, and Skate or Die Tour de Thrash.. The amount of arcade/NES type games is really amazing. Stuff like Galaxian, Centipede, and even Samurai Shodown play pretty well on the old Game Boy.

I'm really glad we can just drop the old games into the new GBA4iOS, it's so much better than all that Goomba stuff we did with Slider. :)

I've got the skin working now. It reminds me of my old Game Boy Micro. I loved that little thing.

I'm sure this has been stated elsewhere in this thread, so I appologise in advance for being redundant.

I think the reason why it's been ok to discuss GBA4iOS is because the GBA is a dead system. You can buy a used GBA if you can find one, but you can't get a factory sealed GBA from your local electronics retailer. This puts the GBA in a sort of gray area. To put it simply, GBA EMUs are not really legal, but they're not really illegal either. If I could buy a new GBA at Best Buy at a reasonable price I think I would. I think $50 would be fair. It would actually be way more fun to hold and play the real thing.

They are definitely 100% illegal in the US, no gray area at all, and yes the real thing is much better.

No, emulators are completely legal. There is a gray area. As said before, the only illegal thing about this is downloading, hosting, and linking copyrighted content. Now the question, would nintendo ever pursue anyone downloading these roms? Probably not. It wouldn't be worth the time and effort. Nintendo doesn't profit from the GBA anymore. Hell, I honestly wouldn't be suprised if some of the guys over at Nintendo have this downloaded.

Actually, Nintendo is preparing gba support for Wii U virtual console. What they've done in the past is issue specific sites C&D orders for their properties. So, I wouldn't be surprised to see titles like the Mario Advance series, Mario & Luigi, and Zelda 3 pulled. They sell these games in some form or another still (M&L is in the lineup for VC soon).

Come on lets not get picky here. Emulators arent illegal, some sites suggest using homebrew games and host those (as its legal), what is illegal is to download roms you dont own. These games are owned by their respective copyright holders (Just as i know its not legal if i download an mp3 from any band in the 70's for example), its still owned by someone.

But we're all grown men here, we know what people use emulators for. Is Nintendo going to knock on my door tonight if i play Batman on this emulator, probably not. Its illegal to do 1 mph over the speed limit but you wont instantly get arrested if you do.

But its a huge grey area, to me emulator authors are one huge reason why retro games are popular and these old games arent gathering dust. Because emulation is popular many companies have re-released old games and have taken advantage of this and received money a second time round. Do i emulate new games ? Nope, do i feel guilty for emulating old 20-30 year old games i cant buy, no i dont. Its still 'illegal' though

i still don't understand why in 2014 there are people that wasting time arguing about emulation of UNPURCHASABLE OLD GAMES!!! what's the matter with you, pals??? are you maybe sons or brothers of that old games devs????? it's time to stop with that crap, put your brain to debate about new iOS/PC/Console gaming!!!

Anywayyyyyyyyyy i'm very far through now on Batman (The Mario Land type of game).

Its funny looking back when i had this game as a kid, there was no battery save or anything, simply once the batteries died that was it, start again the next day.

I must be on about 'level 8' on this game, its surprising how big some old Gameboy games are, a ton of content but later on its near impossible. Luckily i've got a save state but its still so tricky. I'm sure back in those days games were much more difficult than they are now !

I think it is, the speed seems fine, the actual game window seems a good size and not too small. The Earthquake app was good as it really made the game look like the real thing but obviously it had no save states.

Also i find the buttons in this slightly larger and easier to use, Earthquake was just too small really.

The notion that it is legal to download a rom of a game you "own" is a huge fallacy. When you buy a game on a disk or cartridge, you are legally entitled to use that software ON THE MEDIA it was purchased on. Downloading a rom is piracy, plain and simple.

That said, I'm not saying it's wrong.

Oh, and as stated above, yes, there is a DS emulator available as well. I just found it yesterday after learning about the GBA one in this forum, and now I can play one of my favorite DS games, Dokapon Journey, on my iPhone!

Yeah sorry i should have put that, i paid for that game to be on 'that medium' whether its tape from the 80's or a disk in the 90's or cd late 90's. I didnt pay for that rom so all because i own that game on cartridge doesnt mean i own the rom itself. Just like if i have a song on record it doesnt mean i should own the record as well for free.

But again theres also lots of positives to emulation, like i say thanks to the old emulator authors they've helped keep alive these old classics through some rough years, now everyone wants to play them (which is good and bad)

Some more classic original Gameboy games...

Kwirk - A really nice puzzle game
Gradius I and II - Two great Nemesis games for the Gameboy
    R-Type - Plays surprisingly well
Operation C - Basically 'Contra' , plays very well
Bomb Jack - A nice conversion
Bill and Teds - Surprisingly good platformer
Ultima - A different type of RPG, well worth trying
Dragons Lair - Strange one this, its basically a conversion of an old ZX Spectrum game 'Rollercoaster' but with different sprites
