In GTA games, there's always extra activities, such as pool and bowling that could be full games on their own. Well, I guess I can't expect that from an iPod game =P
NP. I can't take credit, another TAer came up with this solution, and I was so thankful when he/she posted it. There's a thread for it in the General section I think. It works like a charm every time.
it's pretty simple. if you look at the handheld's library and find some games you think you would enjoy, and there are admittedly a few really amazing psp exclusive games, then you should buy a psp. i say eff all of the other bells and whistles and just focus on the main content and purpose itself. the games. while we're in this thread, i'd highly recommend the portable gta games if you enjoyed gangstar. those are the real deal and they play just like the real deal. =)
There would have to be a hell of a lot of games I think I'd enjoy to justify that kind of outlay of cash for a device that, despite additional functionality, I'd only ever be using for games. I mean, I've always been the first to advocate the right tools for the right job; like I said, three devices that each do one thing really well is better than one device that does everything with mediocrity at best. That's why I always carried around three different devices not so long ago. But the iPhone has proven to me, particularly with the 3GS, that it is one device that does everything exceptionally. All of the functionality I ever had with my PDA is here (more or less; we still need a good office suite, and I still want backgrounding functionality), all of the functionality I had with my iPod is here, and all the functionality I could ever want for gaming (with the exception of buttons) is here. Add to that some web browsing that is still second to none and I really have no reason to go with another platform. Sure, there are some games I might covet on the PSP or Game Boy, but I'm not even remotely inclined to spend hundreds on those devices and bulk up my daily commute again just for that. It's impossible to have absolutely everything on one platform; exclusivity of software to each platform will take care of that. So I just don't worry about it. I'm more than happy to take what I get on the iPhone platform. Fortunately, what I get is some pretty stellar stuff these days, so I'm kept more than amused with the plethora of games and apps that are available. I've got stuff I haven't even properly gotten into yet because I just haven't had the time to keep up with my app spending habits. (And I know I'm not the only one who's like that here.) The last thing I need is another platform to tend to.
It's fun but does keep freezing and locking up for long periods of time. Im playing with the music turned off now and rebooting clears the problem for a while but obviously i don't want to reboot each time i play. The game is great and impressive. For me though it wont get much play time and i much prefer something more pickup and play. I purchased it just to see what the device is capable of, but it looks like the type of game you have to invest far too much time in, and if i am going to do that they i would rather sit at my console and do it instead. Now remember flamers... i am not insulting the game. I am simply stating my personal opinion on it.
yeah, see, this response is way too elaborate for the point i'm getting at. you asked what would justify the purchase, and i responded...if you could find enough games for it, that would warrant the purchase. you don't have to delve any deeper than that. i already know you have an iphone for everything else.
What if you are: 1. on a long flight 2. Away from home for an extended period of time Might these not be circumstances where you would be happy to have a mobile "console" experience with a game you can dive into for a prolonged period?
Hey can any of you guys thats finished the game post a list of all the cars??? because i cant help feeling im missing some of them :S
I was simply reenforcing my point. The original question was "why game on the iPhone/Touch when a dedicated game system does it better?" It was a bit of a fatuous question to pose, and you seemed to agree with it despite my response explaining why, thus the apparent need to reiterate my point.
