Same here. I tried Memory Status to clear email and Safari from RAM with the same results. The game plays great after a hard reset (not sure about just turning it off via the "slide to turn off", but it's not even playable otherwise.
i tried deleting the game off my phone again for the hell of it.......for some reason this time it worked. for now anyway......it seems to just be random people having this problem. jailbroken....not jailbroken.....a lot of extra memory....barely any memory.....1st gen....2nd gen.....is it some kind of memory leak er somethin in the game? i dont know too much about the technical side of it all but......gameloft definitely NEEDS to look into this!
never happened to me, and what kind of lag, lag as in game lag, control lag, lower framerate??? that'll help with the problem
as in game lag.....haha sorry about the lack of info. the game would play fine then all the sudden.....it would just freeze.....and sometimes just stay like that. but for the most part......it would be basically frozen for about a minute at a time.......then go back to normal.......and a second later......freeze. it also froze on the main screen when i tried to skip the intro movie.....and going into the pause screen. it wasnt too fun at all.......but now.....after the SECOND time i deleted the game.....it works. so i dont know now........just weird is all.
Are you by chance using other apps before you play the game when you have the freeze problems? Keep in mind with the 3G you have just 128 MB of RAM and part of this is allocated to other apps when you power up. I am not sure but with the iPhone 3G you might just get 50-60 MB free upon start up that you can use for apps and games. If you use the Phone, Safari or Mail before you open the game, some of those will stay open (even after you close out of them) thus taking up part of that 50-60 MB you had free when you booted up. When you play the game restart your phone each time and open it first to see if the freezing stops. Also Safari is known for staying open after you close taking up a huge load of available RAM.
Hmm, it sounds like your phone (or touch) ran low on memory, the freezing rends to happen due to the phone running to much, if you have a memory app try closing all unneeded processes before playing the game, i dont have an iPhone so im not sure which ones are necesary, but i know that this game should run perfectly fine if your phone (or touch) has enough memory. The iphone and touch both start out with 55-60 mb when youve done a full reboot, having the music app on takes up about 5 mb, but having the safari app on takes up about 30-40 mb. the safari app tends to eat up alot of memory. also the slowdown may be caused by overheating, having wi-fi and gangstar running causes the ipod to search for wifi while your playing, this causes the iphone to overheat, everytime i play the game, i turn bluetooth, wifi, location services, and any other unnecessary addons. most of those except wifi are off anyways though because i dont like them on. Try any/all of the above and hopefully your game will be running smoothly.
thanks for the info fellows... very interesting. haha you really do learn somethin new everyday... but ok...i think that it was probably just a lack of RAM due to safari and what not. although after the first time i deleted it n reinstalled.....gangstar was the first app i opened...and it still had the lag. and i didnt have the wifi on(because my phone for some reason can catch everyone elses wifi....but my house) so that was this morning.... and now i decided to do it again and it works fine now......i even tried to open safari right now n then open the game right after to see if it would effect it.......it didnt. even opening the game.....closing it.....then open it again......still good. so after all that......i dont really know what happened there.haha i just know it works fine now and im happy again.......probably just jinxed it n now its not going to work.haha thanks tho for the help!
Runs perfect on my 3GS, although I know the device can handle more polygons- I wish the game had a mode for 3GS devices with a longer draw distance. One thing I have noticed with the game is the Police are NEVER EVER shown until you shoot a few people and you get a flashing star to say you are wanted. How did the Police see you shoot people if they aren't around in the first place? The moment you get your flashing wanted star, you will suddenly see one or two Police men on foot and the roads are suddenly patrolled by Police cars. When you star goes, so do the Police. Disappointing. What is also disappointing is the lack of ANYTHING to collect other than health and armour packs. There's nothing! One thing I loved about GTA was combing the nooks and crannies for those hidden packages that were always hidden in strange places. You could also find the odd sniper rifle etc. Having a city to explore on my iPhone is great, but there's not much point if there's nothing to look for. Other than that, it's a great achievement. Great controls (tapping a ped or car to target it is so easy compared to GTA on PSP), decent graphics, great sound. Drive-by shooting is good fun, as is mowing down the odd pedestrian. Escaping the Police has been very easy so far (just find a hiding spot and wait, or collect the bribe icons located on your map). The missions have added variety but are easy so far too. I just wish there was more to collect on the map, have Police patrolling the streets even when you aren't wanted, and have a longer draw distance for 3GS devices. Well worth the small asking price, despite its flaws. 4 out of 5.
Loads of people have already given perfectly level headed answers to this and explained why you would want an ipod touch for gaming, and why you wouldnt want an iphone. To add another, my experience with smartphones is a use the media player/play the games way too much and drain the battery so I can't use it as a phone. But my main reason was I got a phat DS on launch day, a PSP some years later: and once the 2nd gen touch had launched I needed a slimmer music player, and had heard some good things about the app store so decided to jump on board. And what a great ride it's been so far =D IMO it is the next step in portable gaming. mainly, because of the game prices =P
I figured out how to execute the "Plywood Glitch," which also lets you roam around everywhere out of bounds, and find a mysterious city which is exactly like the main city, but only shows on the mini-map. 1st: Get to where the plywood sign is. 2nd: Get a fast car. 3rd: Line up the car so the left side is right up against the cliff. 4th: Drive really fast. 5th: While you are driving, jump out of the car. 6th: You will now be on the cliff. 7th: Immediately start moving up with the analog stick. 8th: If you move to the left, almost to the forest, then get to the top, you can walk like normal. Hope everyone has fun with the glitch, I sure did!
