Hmm, where have you seen these so called "early impressions"? Cause as much as I can tell, the good reviews far outnumber the bad.
Here's a little video review for people still on the fence: [hqyoutube]2FYmH9vB8Bs[/hqyoutube] Very worth the 7 bucks in my opinion.
Ya know, I am a bit underwhelmed. The game is great and runs/plays smooth (on my 3GS, at least), but the whole "thug life" aspect seems too forced here when compared to GTA. Maybe it is because of my recent obsession with GTA:CW, which is easily one of the best games I have played on a handheld, but it feels way out of place. For one, the city is extremely glossy. It almost feels like prep-ville, with a couple of gangsters running around (quite the opposite of Liberty City). Also, animations and driving all feel very dull. Now I have only been playing for about an hour, so I will need to get a bit further before my final verdict. That out of the way, this is definitely worth Gameloft's asking price, especially for GTA fans. Everything works naturally, and the learning curve is just right. Instead of going in depth with my impressions, I will just say that it is a good game that is fun but tries a bit too hard.
It looks ok but I think ill pass. Any impressions? I want love this game but it seems like i dont think it will be that great.
"The game is great and runs/plays smooth (on my 3GS, at least), but the whole 'thug life' aspect seems too forced here when compared to GTA." Aw come on, the lame "gansta" stuff in this game is no worse than in San Andreas. It's all the same stereotypical stuff, created by guys who are ripping off stuff from movies, which was created by guys who are ripping off stuff from rap videos, etc. The people who create these games have about as much real knowledge of gangs and crime as the people who play them. Regardless, from what I can tell so far, Gangstar is really no worse than any GTA title. They all try too hard, they're all really forced and obvious and stereotypical. And more to the point- they're all really fun, which I think is the bottom line.
I'm having the same issue. This is the only game that gives me this problem. It's good to know I'm not the only one.
im confused how did apple let this game get released with the pauses and freezing, long loading time.
Perhaps because the vast majority of us playing it seem to not have any issues with pauses and freezing. I jumped off of the same ramp onto the beach that the other person was talking about, and no problems at all. I haven't even had a slowdown as of yet, and this is after multiple missions.
Only a few people have had them? I have had no problems on my 1st gen touch and i have been playing it for hrs
GTA: San Andreas had tons of stereotypes, but they were accepted as ok. Now in this game people are offended by the stereotypes. There's nothing like a little Thursday afternoon double standard action.
Haven't had time to read the millions of posts in this thread, but I have the exact issue you describe on my iPod Touch 2g...
i have had no slowdowns, lag, crashes, or anthing in the like, since i bought this the second it came out... im on a 2 gen ipod touch with the 2.2.1 version
besides the 30 second loading times(which i think is normal), i have only had 1 slowdown. and that was for about 5 seconds. no freezes or crashes of course, im only on mission 5, so it might happen later on...
For those of you having problems with framerate, slowdowns, etc., it could be the fact that you iDevice might be jailbroken. Developers make games tailored to the original iDevice software and not one modified. I'm not sure if this is your problem or not because it could be working fine on other jailbroken devices as well but it could be the reason. You could also try disabling things like Wi-Fi or 3G. Or freeing memory.
On my 1st Gen iPod Touch with 2.2.1 OS, I've had only 2 crashes in my hour or two of playing. Both of the times the game resumed almost exactly where I left off.
Not jailbroken on this one. I tried men free and still had problems. I reset and it seems stable now. I swore I did that but guess I hadn't...
my iphone is not jailbroken. it took 5 min to load, lagging and pause. can someone explain because im just going to remove it.
I've also had tons of extremely long freezes throughout the game. No crashes though. 3.0 2nd gen touch, not jailbroken.
