Ok, LBG. I don't know if this is considered an easter egg or not, but at the big train garage, there is a spot where cool cars keep spawning. Another one is in one of their fake movie commercials on radio, there is a scream from Assassin's Creed; Altair's Chronicles.

Anyone, has Gameloft put up ads on billboards in the game to advertise their products? I've never payed attention to it but I think that would be a good idea.

But they can possibly generate more profit by adding one or two real life ads into the game in a manner that doesn't force itself down the throats of gamers. And generating profit is why businesses exist in the first place. If it helps them make more iPhone/touch games...then I'd be fine with it.

True...but if you pass under a billboard in the game for, say, 50 Cent Vitamin Water or whatever the hell it is, 9 times out of 10 you probably won't even notice, and that one time you do you probably won't care that much.

If the fast food joint you go to in the game is El Pollo Loco or Taco Bell rather than some fictional place, I don't think it'll "take you out of the game world" too much.

And the "deal" is to provide you a game experience. The deal for them, on a business end, is to make profit. The more profit they make, the more games they can develop (with, possibly, higher budgets). You give a little to get more back. It shouldn't get too out of hand, but if they can make it fit somehow, I'd say they should go for it.

Playing it now... The controls are very easy to get used to. I wish there were more of a destructable environment. The 'distance graphics' take some getting used to as well, is this on all iDevices? Is there a difference for the iPhone 3G S?

I like how they let you have some fun before the cops start chasing you. Like, kill 5-7 people, then they're after you.

    Worth the wait!

I honestly could give a rat's ass if they want to promote their games on billboards here. Seriously? This is a real issue? There have been numerous games with promotions for their other games. I just look at it as good marketing.

It is. And IMHO expanding it to non-Gameloft products isn't a bad idea.

Would it really matter much if there were an ad for, say, a new movie in there? Or a new album? Or even a real life fast food joint (KFC or whatever)? Really wouldn't...and it'd help assure that Gameloft makes bank off of this thing. Give us more hope for more higher budget games from them, and possibly others.

    Nice finds.
I like the one about the Assassin's creed scream.
There are probably more hidden secrets/game crossovers. I will be keeping my eyes and ears peeled. :)

For the price, I'm not buying it until IGN reviews it and a couple others. Although I do miss GTA style games!!!

After playing for about an hour, I must say I really enjoy the game. Haven't done many missions, but just playing is great in itself. Deffinately worth it and can't wait for gameloft's next big title Modern Combat: Sandstorm

True, but on the other hand when I do notice... it makes the game look slightly crappy. They just don't often fit in with the fictional world of the game... blazing around Burnout Paradise and then smashing into a van with "Gillette" written on the side just makes me think "cheap, would've preferred a fictional brand from Paradise city".

I'll admit it's a fine line, because seeing a real restaurant in a game wouldn't actually annoy me as much, I'd see it more as a hint of realism rather than an advertisement. When I play something like Forza 2 and drive through Times Square I don't see it as advertising, I see it as an accurate portrayal of the real place. The same goes for Skate and using a Sidekick for the menu system. There's just something about billboards being plastered about the place that makes it seem a lot more desperate than actually integrating brands into the game via other methods.

    Just get it.

edit - and yeah, never listen to IGN. In fact, never listen to any review sites (except TA of course ;) as many of their reviews are total BS. I have played many good games which have been given bad reviews and vice versa.

I agree....if you look at that dude's post history(s0mah)....every single one is negative. He just sits there and blasts every topic he posts about. Must be miserable to only spew negativity about everything.

Look, I'm simply trying to cut past the hype for this game and figure out whether or not it's actually good - mostly because I'm at work with nothing better to do. I'm cognizant of the fact that half the people posting in this thread haven't celebrated their 18th birthday yet, and are mighty impressed with any game that looks pretty and allows them to kill things. I was once a teenager too.

I'm not ragging on it for only letting you do crime stuff, that's the point of the game - but what kind of crime stuff can you do? Can you buy and sell contraband for profit, rob stores or what? Since the comparison is to GTA III, I'm assuming it's limited to missions. Not necessarily a bad thing, but what are the missions like? Is there a good variety and are they fun? Or are they more tedious than anything?

And if it's like GTAIII, how does the story and writing compare? The characters? I'm only guessing it's trite and juvenile because that's all I've seen in the videos so far.

For me, simply driving around and shooting people gets old - fast. Especially since these games are a dime a dozen at this point and the mechanics of Gangstar aren't particularily outstanding. Shooting a person whose car you just stole isn't a selling point to me anymore.

I only brought up CivRev because it's another game I'm going to buy soon. And while they're apples and oranges, I'm quite confident Civ offers significantly more open ended gameplay and replayability.

Also, not to be rude, but your first sentence doesn't really make any sense. Be sure to figure out the definition of prominent before you try and use it again in a sentence. But, I understood what you were going for. And Mister, I sure hope you have a bit more perspective than that ;).

Anyway, for the sake of those who are enjoying the game, this will be my last post until I play if for myself. Although I would appreciate answers to my questions from those who have already done so.

I hope people don't see me in the same way :p I can be critical a lot of the time but I always try to provide valid reasons... and if it's directed at a developer I try to suggest improvements and actually help rather than just insult.

I think they got away with it because it was fictional and comical, period. Hearing real commercials would suck.
