I dunno, but I have a 2G iPod Touch running 3.0. As far as frame rate goes, it's pretty much spotless, in my experience. After an hour of playtime, I burnt through close to half the battery.
Anyone know how many hours of gameplay can be found here? I really wanna know before I take the leap (which I'll probably take anyways)...
All devices have a little less open space than listed for all the other stuff like Settings and built-in apps and such, so it may be because of that.
Ive played a lot of decent ipod games but this is the first that makes me think it can actually compete with the PSP as a PROPER gaming device.
Quick Impressions: General; The game is decent. Don't come in expecting GTA, because you'll be mighty disappointed. The Gameplay itself is great; entertaining and such. However the game is weighed down by poor animation, passable graphics, and performance issues. For the most part, the driving controls work, but aren't smooth, sleek, polished and whatnot. The current release feels as if it were a beta or early build. I tested this on a "Safe Mode" enabled iPod Touch 1G. As of now, I'd give it a 7.3 out of 10; 2.9/5. Pros -Nice assortment of Weapons; though still lacking -Achievements -Decent Control system -Great Soundtrack Cons -Poor/Choppy Animations -Graphics which could be rendered a tad bit better with some tweaking -No Multiplayer -Leaderboards -Performance/Frame issues on many devices pre-3GS; no optimization Lasting Appeal A rather ambitious title which doesn't measure up to GTA in most aspects, though still keeps the GTA 'fire' burning; regardless of it's numerous issues, exclusions, and device limitations. Knowing Gameloft I would suggest waiting a week or two as well [pricedrop].
Get this over CJS and Payback, unless you don't have those, you might want to get them just to compare. IMHO this is better, plus it has the radio.
But it'd only be during the driving sections, when you put on the car's radio. And it would be avoidable by many by either playing their own music during the game or turning off the in game radio stations. It's not like those banner ads found in some games which are annoying and completely unavoidable. As for GTA...I think GTA got away with it not only because it was fictional and comical, but because there's an expectation that when you get in a car and turn on the radio you're gonna hear commercials. Listen, I know it might annoy some people, but game developers have to earn revenue in other ways other than just selling the games. Other mediums do it all the time (commercials during radio shows, TV shows, product placement in movies). The way I see it, it's a legit method to earn revenue. If it were, say, one ad every so often, I don't think a lot of people would mind terribly. Just as long as they didn't go overboard and it didn't block out the game itself. Billboards are another way for them to generate revenue. You're in the street. There are billboards in the street. Why not put one or two actual ads on those billboards? Again, completely avoidable for the player, but yet another way Gameloft could earn some revenue off of this thing and be assured making their dev costs back. I remember Rush 2049 had a slew of billboards and stuff up for Slim Jims and such in the futuristic San Francisco in which the game was set. Didn't detract from the game any, wasn't annoying. But Midway probably made some extra cash on the side there.
Well, I know prices for games tend to drop (Gameloft games especially), but what matters to me is how much the game is worth. Like when I bought Payback for $7.99. The very next day, the price dropped to $4.99. Was I mad about it? No. It was rather inconvenient, but due to all the hours of play and all the fun I had playing the game, LONG after I beat the story mode, it was definitely worth it. Although, after this, I doubt I'll be playing Payback much anymore.
At first this game didn't impress me too much, but now I have played it for a while it has grown on me. I really love the variety of the missions, the shooting missions in particular. I find it nice to walk around instead of drive, sometimes, as you notice more detail and the city feels bigger. I noticed plenty of amusing signs, but I haven't yet seen any hidden easter eggs. Anyone else seen any?
I was never fond of billboard ads either. Besides, I'm sure Gameloft can find enough gangsta wannabes to cover the cost of development without getting greedy. This is a high profile game, they don't need to assault our senses in an attempt at scraping a few more bucks from us, they're gonna make a profit regardless. I go into games to escape reality (or create a new one), I don't want developers trying to take my money after I've just given them some, that's not part of the deal.
Framerate is awfull on the iphone 3g...on the touch arcade video on you tube its silky smooth 60fps....on my iphone its like 15fps lol.
Pretty spot on. The one game that I bought that had a MASSIVE price drop just scant hours later was Soul Trapper (an audio adventure game). Bought it at $7.99 in the wee hours of the morning before a trip, went to this site to check "new games" when I got to my destination a few hours later and...guess what? The price had dropped to $1.99. I still left a glowing review. Didn't mind one bit that I had paid $6 more for the game, because it was worth more than that, IMHO. Stellar experience. Sad that it's the only audio adventure game as yet on the platform, sadder still that the developer hasn't released any more as they had intended.
