I hope that they make the cars funner to drive, smoother, cuz gangstar2 had crappy cars and it was stiff
good thread. i think we can all agree that gta 3 is a higher quality game production wise than rio as it was made for consoles. it's hard to argue though that gameloft doesn't give good games in general though at reasonable price points. could rockstar have put a GREAT open world sandbox on ios? certainly. Would they do a better job than gameloft-I'm sure they would. When you come down to it you won't see that. There just isn't enough money to be made doing so at app store prices. This is why we only see ports of existing games from rockstar. regardless, playing both gta 3 and rio on ios will be fun imho. If i want top notch quality, I play console, if I want fun on the go and interesting game play using touch screens I grab my iphone. besides it's always with me. wish one of these two (rio, gta3) would come out already....
I will get both games but personally although I know GTA 3 will have better writing and all that I'm more excited for rio. I think Gangstar is like saints row while GTA is GTA. Especially the fact thatrio has ability to change clothes and ride motorcycles, ATVs, planes (I know GTA 3 had the dodo but that was really hard to fly) and stuff like that. And of course rio is a brand new game while vie played GTA 3 many times before. Still I will get and enjoy both but I am not siding with either. I think both will have their pros and cons.
I played GTA3 when it first came out - as well as VC and SA. All three games had terrible animation and graphics that ranged from good-to-bad depending on the standards of the time they were released. Will GTA3 on iOS be more fun than the Gameloft alternative - most likely. Will it look better in terms of animation and texture/model quality - I don't think so.
I couldn't agree less..! Although when it comes to Gangstar 3 vs GTA3(iOS) I'd say Gangstar is standing pretty tall to be honest. I won't say Gameloft has it beat kuz we all know GTA3 will likely outweigh Gangstar by triple in terms of game area. But besides that, I believe Gameloft has a pretty strong formula themselves seeing as Gangstar was designed for iOS and this is their 3rd installment of the iOS original series. Plus Rio seems to have customization options that are unheard of in GTA3. But if GTA3 will run and play like I remember on the ps2 some years ago then this should stomp any competition, IMO. I have lingering doubts that it will be as great as my cloudy memory suggests but we shall see.
I think it's safe to assume the release date is November 4th. Unless they release it with MC3 which is unlikely. Too bad it feels like its so far away.

It's likely that they'll release their two biggest games within a week of each other. I think Gangstar will be released about two or three weeks after MC3.
The screenshots from that french site are from an iPod Touch 3G so that's probably why the textures look so bad. Edit - for comparison here's Miami Vindication on iPhone 4 or iPod Touch 4. Hopefully Gangstar rio will look at least as good as this on 4th gen and above.
because i'm selfish I hope they take extra time to refine it and have enhancements/settings for 4s users that have dual core and a little extra graphical power at their disposal.
Did Miami Vindication actually look that bad on 3rd gen devices? I think somethings very wrong with Rio's 3rd gen support if it looks like that. The car is almost a marshmellow. I've played Miami Vindication on a 2nd gen iPod Touch and I'm pretty sure the textures were sharper than this. I can understand lower CPU power limiting the number of NPCs but with the much lower resolution, I didn't think 3rd gen devices would have RAM or GPU performance issues in regards to texture quality compared to 4th gen iPod Touch or iPad 1. Unless 4th gen Touch and iPad 1 are even worse.
im going to assume that this game will come out nov 3 since it looks pretty much done and modern combat 3 is coming out this week
It'll be out soon, but I think just a week after MC3 unlikely. This game will probably come out two weeks after MC3.
I highly doubt that these are the final graphics for this game, as even the trailer had better graphics than this. Either the French website was using an earlier version of this game, or they didn't fully upload the pictures. I think it's very likely that this game will have the same kind of graphics that MV had, but I hope this game doesn't have the same annoying graphic glitches as MV.
