What they need to do is add multiplayer gametypes, more story content, player customization, more areas to explore and stuff like that. I would PAY for an update like that.
I think you missed the original release of Gangstar: West Coast Hustle. A game that took a year to develop for $6.99. And with the DLC abilities the appstore has now, each of those things could be part of expansion packs for the sequel. In other words, you are completely oblivious to Gameloft's improvements and plans to use the DLC abilities to make games thicker and richer like they already plan to do with Asphalt 5. You just don't get it, do you?
No, cause the cell phones games are regular java 2d games. The 3d stuff for the iPhone was built from scratch.
they should update the first one before they make a sequel. but a real gta from rockstar would be a lot better.
I was thinking the same thing. But I'm sure that Rockstar would or might disappoint us if they did. I'm just saying they might not make a good one that excites us. Because when it comes to the appstore, I've been disappointed in Square Enix! Not possible, you say? Well it is. But I do hope for a Stories type game like the ones on the PSP.
They're considering new developments!!!! For now we are just watching the evolution of Gangstar in rankings WE'LL CONSIDER NEW DEVELOPMENTS LATER See, there is still hope! (That was from their Twitter account!)
Chalk that up to the writer of said article not knowing and/or forgetting what "port" actually means (sorry Blake). The two original Gangstar games for Java were 2D affairs. This game is a 3D affair, built originally, it seems, for the iPhone/touch platform. If it doesn't share code or technical assets from the original game (that is, built from the original code, or built off of it as a base), it is NOT a port, straight up port or upgraded port. At all. If it is a sequel to the original games and doesn't share the original story (and I don't know if it does), characters, and missions, then it is just that: a sequel. If it shares the story, setting, characters and same missions (albeit with extras) of the original games, but nothing or very little on the tech side, it isn't an enhanced or upgraded port, but rather a remake (affectionately called REmake, after the Resident Evil remake on Gamecube). GTA III wasn't an "upgraded port" of the original GTA games - it was a sequel. Completely new game within the same series. Resident Evil on Gamecube wasn't an "upgraded port" of the original Playstation Resident Evil - it was a remake (REmake). Built from the ground up on the newer hardware, it only shared the base of the original storyline, including characters and some level layouts. But everything else, the technical stuff and things that directly attributed to the gameplay itself, from the character models to the backgrounds to the music to the AI to the vast additions to gameplay marked it as a remake. It Something like, say...Myst on iPhone/touch. That's a port. It's the original game ported over to the iPhone/touch hardware. Assassin's Creed on this platform is a port of the DS game. Both cases are slightly changed (upgrades in graphics for AC, iPhone/touch touch interface for Myst), but they're still ports nonetheless. Nothing was drastically changed in either, they weren't built originally for the hardware, etc.
Has anyone played the original Gangstar games for Java? Does it share the same storyline, missions, etc? Not similar, mind you, but the exact same? BTW, I actually wouldn't mind Gameloft simply porting over some of their 2D Java titles onto this platform. It could be their entry into the lower priced market with very little in way of dev costs. Rather than start up a "low price game" studio, as EA did, Gameloft could instead leverage their older titles, which have already made them money. Creatively, it seems half assed at best, sure...but business wise it may be a great way to earn additional revenue off of those older games while also serving to mark their iPhone/touch 3D titles as "different" and deserving of higher initial price points. And some of those older Java games are actually pretty good, apparently, and many of us haven't played them. I don't see why they shouldn't bring them over if they can. Sadly, they probably won't give us this: alongside the DS/nGage port of the 3D game that they put on iPhone/touch. They probably won't give us the older 2D sprite based platformers, shooters, RPGs, etc. that they've developed in the past. Instead they'll focus on new stuff. Not a bad idea...but there's a place for the older stuff as well. Remember, I'm not saying we should have just the former over the latter, but that there may be a market for BOTH. Old and new. 2D and 3D. Especially if they are pretty different games in terms of level design and feel. Sadly Gameloft doesn't see it that way, but they really ought to, IMHO. Wouldn't be a bad thing to port the older Gangstar titles. Sell them for, say, $2 or so, or less. They've already made profit for Gameloft, and they could still make a nice chunk of change if ported to this platform. And while many won't buy them due to being 2D, others will. Will they be stellar examples of iPhone/touch games? No. But some will like them. And they'll buy them. And that means more money for Gameloft to make those original iPhone/touch games that push the platform.
WOW!.....you really have the rose colored gameloft glasses on don't you. You honestly think that gameloft can top rockstar with this generic clone of their own game? Hahahahaha
Do you still not wear the glasses to differentiate the iPhone from the Xbox 360? Rockstar has actually yet to make an iPhone game. I never said that Gangstar is better than GTA 4. I actually believe quite the opposite. I just think that Rockstar probably wouldn't make a good iPhone game, and I have yet to be proven other wise. But all in all, you are an ignorant retard and you just don't get it.
That's right I don't get it. What are you basing this on?? Has rockstar let you down with a previous Iphone game? What a dork China town wars is easily possible on the platform, and is a way better game. Stop pole jocking gameloft. The only thing I ever hear out of your mouth is "I love gameloft" "thez arz uber win awesomeness". Seriously as far as Iphone games you can do better than gameloft. But have fun playing the next generic flavored game buddy.
lol yes rockstar could easily make any game of theres good on any platfor, just look at gta advance, they recreated liberty city on a small device, and not only that but made it fun. Rockstar has yet to disappoint me on any platform, i dont think that they would dissappoint us on the iphone. Chinatown wars could easily do good on the iphone platform, heck im pretty sure they could even do the GTA: stories games on here and make it good. Bully, even manhunt would be fine by me.
I agree. I would love one of the Stories games on here. I dream of San Andreas on this device. That would be epic. But with the Appstore's approval process, it might never happen. The original beta for Gangstar had hookers and drugs (says pocketgamer [supposedly]), but Apple disapproved. Oh yeah, I forgot.. You're a troll..
Well, obviously not. Though you're probably not going to listen to me at all, I would still like to level with you on how I feel on the topic. I'm basically basing it off my past experiences with great companies coming to the iPhone. Square Enix, for example, made song summoner for the iPOD and such awesome GBA games and are making awesome cell phone games and awesome games on other platforms, I thought they'd make awesome games for the iPhone, but I was wrong. Instead, they made an overpriced TD game. It was ok as a game, but the thought of it was kind of a kick to the head and flaming bag of dog crap on the front porch. Same with Konami and the MGS gallery shooter, although they are coming out with Krazy Kart. Lucas Arts was good with Monkey Island, but the mouse thing instead of a more touch screen interface shows that they really didn't remake it for the iPhone and just wanted to make a quick buck. Basically, my experience with most well known big companies on the iPhone has ended up like that. As far as iPhone games though, I like EA, Gameloft, NgMoco, Illusionlabs, Gameville, Chillingo, and Bovigne Dragon. Although Gameloft makes generic console wannabe games, I still can't help enjoying them for what they are. Chinatown Wars would be the best game on the appstore, but only if it were released in the appstore. And with Apple's approval process, and the possibility that Rockstar might not be too cool with putting any of their games up for $9.99 or under, I just don't see it happening. Although, If proven wrong, I would totally buy it. Basically, the only way Rockstar would disappoint me would be to not make an iPhone game at all, or just to make a spinoff game like the other companies I mentioned in the first paragraph.
Well you are right to feel a bit "burned". MGST, and Crystal Defenders, seem far below the quality of even their PSP counterparts. I suppose I was being a bit of a jerk, and I apologize. Gameloft's future lineup, and company direction is more along the lines of what I want out of a developer/publisher. With IP's like earthworm jim (though not original is at least not another vague, fill the void Gamesnack), I'll admit I'm a little excited. Not only that but they have also started to expand on the "content" of some of their games with updates, while lso putting out a low budget $.99 division. As of now I'm not a huge fan of the company, but their future plans definitely give me hope.
if you really don't like gameloft then stop playing their games on iphone,i don't understand why you're arguing on someone who said he loves gameloft, gameloft is i think the biggest most active developer for the app store,i played almost alll of their games for the iDevices and i'm satisfied with those
I really wish that people were allowed to modify the game, like on PC, so that people can release user-generated content and stop bitching about what's not there.
