Why should Apple address this? Apple are providing the platform its up to the devs what they want to do with there games is it not???

It the current games all about supply and demand? Had the "clicker" games tanked then we wouldnt get any more release by developers. The iOS gaming is a constant moving of trends changing to what is the in thing so to speak. We had the rush of Clash Of Clans game, Flappy bird (who can forget that one) the list goes on and on.

One difference and you may agree, the big releases on console, PC etc we all have to wait for them per Quarter. We get big mobile releases every week maybe not to your taste but to someone im sure.

    Past few days we had

    Carrage - Racing game
Marvel: Avengers Alliance 2 - Team Marvel Battler
Hungry Shark World - I cant understand why this popular yet hey o.
    Touch Football

    Going back some more days

    SoulKing
    Fortress: Destroyer

So as i said before i dont think its got worse its just changing to the demands of the gamer.

Back in the day we had a balance. There were many simple touch games, freemium games and "big" paid games . Gameloft's early attempts at copying console games might have been a bit funny but can you imagine sequels to games like shadow guardian, zombie infection, hero of Sparta , Backstab , 9mm e.t.c taking advantage of iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6s ?

I second that. I loved Backstab and Heroes of Sparta as well. I had an android device back then and we didn't get as many GL games as you lucky iOS users but I loved them. Heck, Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell by GL were great as well! The path that companies like GL and EA have taken is just sad.

Our only main hope are ports.I'd rather have ports than these clone type of games...

There are more great core gamer-y games on the App Store than anyone could realistically play in a lifetime. It seems weird to get all doomy, gloomy and nostalgic for the good ol' days when five years ago our Out Now posts would have maybe 10 games, with 1 or 2 of them being gamer games. Now those same posts have 50+ games in them and you still see at least 1 or 2 core gamer-y games. Don't get all emo about the platform just because there's tons more games being released that might not fit your specific interests.

This thread is sort of insane. It proves that people only see what they want to see. There are just as many "premium" games nowadays as ever, if not more. This quote kind of nails it:

It drives me nuts when people scream "mobile gaming is just a bunch of freemium clickers!" because that is objectively false. Companies like EA and Gameloft don't make those games you mention anymore because the market rejected them. They make far more money with free to play games. And I honestly don't see the problem with that! There's been no Real Racing 4 because Real Racing 3 has been updated literally dozens and dozens of times, with more new content than even a sequel would have. That's the way games are going across all platforms, games as a service. It has to. A one time upfront purchase (even if it's $60) can't counteract the rising cost of developing "AAA" games. It's why you see Bungie say they have a 10 year plan for Destiny. And that's in the CONSOLE world, now imagine the mobile world where people are hesitant to even spend a dollar, or when games do come out at $10 or above with no IAP people hem and haw over buying them because "it might go on sale". A game like Real Racing 3 is very close in production costs to a console game. People freaked out when it released as free to play, but try to imagine what would have happened if it released at $30 or $40 dollars, the average price of a handheld game? It would have bombed and been forgotten in the blink of an eye, dozens of people would have lost their jobs, there would be no updates or any more Real Racing games to come. It would have been a disaster. Now look at the path they DID take, and it's one of the most popular games on the platform that's received constant updates for nearly 3 straight years. It's a no brainer that they made the right decision.

My advice is if those sorts of games are what you want to play, buy a console or handheld. Mobile was never very well suited to them in the first place. Mobile devices and consoles are very different, and should be celebrated for their individual strengths. It doesn't mean mobile gaming is getting worse, if anything it's getting better, because it's being defined by its strengths and by its players. People that want these big complex "console like" games with virtual buttons everywhere are in the extreme, extreme minority, and will be much better served playing on an actual console or handheld. But people that enjoy the less taxing, moment to moment type of games are in the middle of a fricking renaissance in mobile and have more choices and unique experiences than anybody could play in an entire lifetime.

Unless you don't update OS on a lifetime, because it is probably that many games are going to break and not properly fixed.

If you don't think that even minor updates breaking many games and apps is not a problem, who am I to tell you otherwise?

I'm running whatever the latest iOS 9 is, I have multiple folders of awesome, premium core gamer games I haven't even had time to play yet and playing iOS games is my job. Gaming on iOS is fine.

I felt compelled to create an account and comment on this issue because it has changed my gaming habits. The only positive I got from iOS gaming is the exposure to indie games that I may never heard of. I also feel mobile gaming can seriously devalue a game when a developer is forced to drop the price or price it at 99 cents on a daily basis. Where is the motivation for a developer to keep updating their game unless it's profitable? Plus, how often do you buy a game because it's on sale, barely touch it and never think about it again? Maybe I'm stubborn, but I understand why Nintendo is the way they in regard to their IPs and pricing. I stopped buying iOS games this year and purchased a 3DS. Most of my 3DS game purchases are from Nintendo and Indie Devs. Want to know something? I didn't pay 99 cents a game. Want to know something else? I can probably get 10 years worth of gaming on the system without worrying about updates breaking. I still have an original DS from 2005 that still works fine. If anything, I think Apple is partially to blame for the way the platform is set up.

I see blame on both sides but I think this ultimately falls in the lap of the developers. If you follow best practices and the guidelines Apple has laid out, your game won't have an issue with iOS updates. Yeah, sometimes Apple makes weird decisions and it sucks they force you to adhere to their system or whatever, but it's Apple. That's what they do. And it's their platform so they can call the shots. Every game I've seen that's been broken is because the developer was doing something in a way they shouldn't have been.

The iOS 9 Game Center bug however is completely on Apple, and they really need to figure that one out.

I have a 3DS too, and I love it. I play it all the time. I also play games on my iPhone all the time. I don't see the problem with this!

That's weird I also have a 3DS and like 30 games for it that I play all the time, are you saying I'm allowed to enjoy both 3DS games and mobile games?

There's no need to get churlish. A person is allowed to want different things from a medium and device they love without being called Mr. Reverso from The Land of Backwards Opinions. Many of the most lauded games on IOS don't seem to play to the stripped-down theory of what IOS gaming should be, and yet playing something like MHFU on a small glassy rectangle is so immersive and magical it's stunning. Whether rightly or wrongly, the idea that those sort of experiences may become less and less common, on devices that are growing more and more capable of handling them, is a little upsetting. This may be rectified were Apple to stop being so in-house and start cooperating with developers (they seem to have made some in-roads in this direction since IOS 8, but it's still only a handful of games), or if a handful of Implosions turn the tide, but things aren't necessarily veering in that direction right now. So things change and nothing dies; IOS will keep on chugging along no matter what. I get it, but whether we're just being naive, or are hopelessly unaware of the basics of economics, seeing the potential of something and how it isn't being met shouldn't result in us being written off as misanthropic whingers.

I agree with some points being made here, but IMO what we're seeing is just the evolution of IOS gaming in general. I think Apple does really stupid things and sticks its own foot in its rear end, but I still see good games popping up all over the place. Surprised that most people will put up with these new-fangled consoles and hard drives that take forever to boot up. Put in a game, might as well go take a good dump, and when you come back, the game is still loading! What a joke! One step forward, two steps back! All the old systems would start up right away without any of this crap! I can't be bothered with that anymore! And at sixty bucks plus per game?! Ya lost me! And it's not that I can't afford it! Only old systems to survive in my house these days are my old PS2 and my Vita. Still very much enjoy what they offer up here and there! Otherwise, I'm an IOS and Android guy now, period. To me, complaining that there isn't any good games anymore is over-reacting. There are tons of em! And mobile gaming keeps growing, while console gaming, well, not so much.... That should tell you something right there! Premium, freemium, shmeemium. When looking at the big picture, mobile gaming is doing just fine. :D

the issue at hand isn't really about lack of new quality titles. Right now I can easily buy 10 recently released premium games on iOS, but I refuse to because of the issues stated by OP. Think about it, Valve is basically consolizing the PC for their Steam service to ensure a stable environment for the most part. The platform Apple is providing App Developers may not be the most efficient. I would love for an iOS developer to chime in on these iOS updates and how it affects them and their bottom line.
