No,it will just be updated to support 64 bit. Some developers are probably gonna do that in the very last moment like Rockstar or Beamdog.
I've been buying/using iOS games/apps since 2010. To say I've gotten a lot of stuff since then, is a HUGE understatement. Last summer I got a 12.9" iPad Pro, and love it. But as experience has taught me over the years to wait as long as one can to update to the next 'Full version number' and pretty much hold off until I need/want something that absolutely required to do, Since there are always some things that break. (Hence why l'm still using 9.3 So something like this definitely concerns me.
If you're on the latest version of iOS, there's an option in settings. Otherwise, check the age of the game's last update. If it's after July 2015, Apple required 64-bit compatibility to be included. If its last update was before that, it's highly likely it's not 64-bit ready, especially if it was way before.
Which is the minimum req iOS version to test this. 10.2.1? Haven't upgraded in ages, but considering to do so before iOS 11 to check if I will lose games I love.
Don't know if if the 10.3.1 update, but Titan Quest is very laggy. It's impossible to play the game without any lag.
Ye I know that. But that's not my reasoning. Not having apps backed up on a computer, and curious to see if I will lose so many games as to make new hardware something I won't buy again. Which is why I am interested in knowing the minimum req iOS to check which games I potentially can lose. So is 10.2.1 enough to see the list of 64 bit comp games?
I believe 10.3 was the introduction of this feature. What it is is a list of apps on your device that are not 64-bit compatible. My current plan is to keep my iPhone 6+ on iOS 10 and try to, within the next year or so, get a new phone and have my 6+ become a legacy device. May not pan out that way but that's the plan.
Ye, that's the list I wanna make,10.3 being the first with this is my impression as well, was just hoping 10.2.1 had it. Anyways thanks for the replies. And ye kinda thinking about turning a newer iPad mini into a legacy device as well.
Based on Foursaken's sale I bought H and C today only to find out it is destined to be put down. I'd like to see TA indicate on their site whether games they feature (on sale or not) if a game is 32 bit or 64
How can you buy NOW a game that isn't updated since 2013 for example? Knowing that from September on it will be unplayable if you update iOS? Come on, how can you buy an "old" game now?
Chuck, I got in touch with Foursaken and they said they're planning to update their apps for 64-bit compatibility before the Appocalypse. So don't worry. I apologize for not noting compatibility stuff in that story. I'll try to be more careful in the lead-up to this impending mess.
I thought that would be the case with these guys. They have a nearly flawless track record and are still one of the most active developers in the AppStore. Thanks for verifying, Shaun.
I have made a lengthy post on Twitter @LeeMobileGame including 12 screens of games that will be broken (at this time) with iOS11. If you need to check which games might go, you can take a look there. Looking forward to seeing what the TA writers have to say about the state iOS11, guessing it will be a bit closer to launch. For me, this might be the end of my fun with mobile gaming.
I'm getting more and more concerned about Final Fantasy Tactics as time goes by. As I understand it, isn't Chrono Trigger on the chopping block too? I don't see myself buying premium titles from Square again if Tactics goes down. I can forgive FF: Dimensions dying off, but Tactics? Edit: I was wrong: FF: Dimensions IS updated for 64 bit. Dammit. Why that and not tactics?
Chrono Trigger is 64 bit,it was updated in October of 2015,anything that is updated after the middle (I think) of 2015's June is 64 bit.
Most of Square's games are contracted out to outside developers. I don't know who did FFT but it's possible the team isn't available anymore for whatever reason. That app is a particularly complicated chimaera of code from Quest, TOSE, and whoever handled the mobile port. Hopefully they can keep it going. It still sells well enough to be of future value to SE, I think.
I think I'm going to have to turn one of my devices into a legacy device. I have too many games that I know won't work (insert Playdek card game other than Ascension here, FFT, Castlevania Puzzle) or that I'm afraid won't work (Lunar, the Idolmaster Shiny Festa titles). Can't even check the last update on some of those since they've been delisted. So, iOS 10.3 didn't break anything major? I've been reticent to update because I'm afraid of losing access to things that I paid for, particularly things like Idolmaster that I can't even download again. I definitely won't go to 11... but it would be nice to add compatibility to stuff that requires 10 if I won't lose anything else.
