I just read this entire thread beginning to end, and now my brain hurts. The original Halo only had splitscreen or LAN multiplayer. But it was such an incredible multiplayer game, that myself and thousands of others would lug our humongous Xbox machines and TV's to each other's houses and have LAN matches well into the night. Some of the most fun I've ever had gaming, TBQH. If NOVA only ends up having local multi, but the multi is seriously balanced and fun, I could see people coordinating get togethers IRL just to play the game together. Online would be ideal, of course, but when something is as fun as the original Halo's multi, there's no end to the hoops I'll jump through to get my game on. At the very least, I'd like to see the ability to add bots into NOVA just in case I want to get some multi on but don't have anyone around to play with, or don't feel like playing the campaign. We'll see what happens, but either way this is my most anticipated game at the moment. And as far as this whole "rip-off" discussion is concerned, if Bungie were to make a proper Halo, Infinity Ward a proper COD, Namco a proper Soul Calibur, and Rockstar a proper GTA, then I'd be buying those games. But they're not on the app store, at least not yet and probably not anytime soon. Until that time, I'll gladly play Gamelofts high quality and fun "rip-offs" and have a blast doing it. Also, I know that Rockstar is bringing a proper GTA to the iDevice, but it's not a proper 3D one like Gangstar is. It's the more old-schoolish but still really fantastic Chinatown Wars. Not a bad thing at all, but if you want a 3D GTA-like game, currently your only option is Gangstar.
Yes, I don't want to experience the mediocre attempt at the campaign mode. From the video, the enemy animations seem lifeless.
Yeah, just like in the real game. The Halo series ALWAYS had terrible animation, so seeing that in Nova actually wasn't a turn off. Watching Master Cheif and The Arbiter move around is like watching those wooden marionettes from back in the day move around. I never understood why a premiere title always had substandard animation compared to Modern Warfare or even Metal Gear Solid 2 from 2001. So yeah, the animation is bad, but it's not going to turn off a Halo fan, it's actually reminiscent of it.
I agree. And the enemy AI in Halo relied on you passing certain points in the terrain before triggering them into action. The enemy in the video that just blindly paces while you have an eternity to snipe his face off is actually accurate to the Halo games. And I'm actually looking forward to see how the campaign in NOVA is, I like the Halo campaigns. It's fun to go back and replay through all 3 of the Halo campaigns, especially on Legendary. And especially on co-op. But it's a very different fun than multiplayer, so I hope they are both good in NOVA. That's true, most the graphics are rendered in 3D. But most the time you're actually playing the game, it's from the bird's eye view aspect. It's not bad, I love GTA CW on DS, and I think that view works best for a mobile version. But it's still not quite like Gangstar, which more resembles the console GTA games.
If you're pacing left and right thinking about something other than your job (because how many people think about their job 100% of the time their at work?) you might not notice the guy that is standing about 20 ft. from you surrounded by some foliage. Unless, of course, you're part Hawk.
Yes but it is still 3d, so stop calling it a 2d game... Its getting annoying, just because the camera isnt over the shoulder doesnt mean its not 3d. It is also not bids eye view, as birds eye view would mean that it would be directly top down, meaning everything you see would only consist of the x axis and not the y, and this game allows you to see all axis, meaning it is a 3/4 top-down view, think isometric but actually 3d. I found CW to be alot more fun, even if it wasnt over the shoulder, it was alot more fun than gangstar. Lol resembles console play xD, you mean resembles GTA 3 and on, GTA 1, London, and 2 all consisted fo top-down view, and were on consoles so....
I never called it 2D, I just said it was more old school-ish, which the feel of the game is more reminiscent of the first 2 GTA's. I love CW, I actually had more fun with that game than I did with GTA IV. And I guess it depends on what angle the bird is looking down, but you're right it's a 3/4 top down view. Thank you. All I'm saying is it appears that the CW that is going to come out for iPhone isn't going to be a behind the back, move the camera freely, 3D open world game like Gangstar is. And that makes me happy, I prefer that to Rockstar making a GTA like the console GTA's. Just sayin' that Gangstar is the only current option for a game like that, and I'm not mad at Gameloft at all for filling that void.
Agreed. I also have GTA CW for my ds though i haven't finished it yet, the midi music turned me off but i agree that it's a terrific game!
Halo 3 is in what platform again? And Nova is for the iphone right? Do you mind posting your thoughts here http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=25052 i think they are talking about you lol!
You don't get the conversation at all. The Animation was better than it's prequels though, you have to admit.
Can you honestly give me a game in the appstore that animates better than the enemy in the video? I was wondering why you are so critical of every giant step the platform seems to take towards console-like gaming then i stumble into this http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?p=486930#post486930 you don't want to be proven wrong lol!
Actually, the one thing I was surprised by in MC:S was how good the animation was. I hope GL don't drop the ball on this one.
Hell yeah! This game along with Eliminate and MC: Sandstorm will rock my world. I never thought I could see games this good for my ipod
