I agree with you on that Castle of Magic is great and shows what Gameloft is really capable of. Too bad the ideas and the game borrow so much from the New Super Mario game that was on the DS. Once again, who cares the game is fun right? So play it be happy. Live long and prosper and game on man.
I wasn't gonna step into this craphouse again, which has turned from a topic about a game to a topic about the company that makes the game and whether or not they rip off IPs. Honestly, they do, but that's not all they do as Castle of Magic is an original IP and they make movie licensed games like Terminator Salvation and also games based on sister company UbiSoft's original IPs like Assassin's Creed. And bringing up UI similarities is going a little overboard, I think. But that's not why I wanted to chime in. I saw this, and it irked me quite a bit: No. And if you haven't played Rasta Monkey (which I can tell you most probably haven't, otherwise you wouldn't be making such a silly ass statement) you shouldn't comment on it being a "rip off", particularly since it doesn't play like Sway AT ALL. Level design, physics, art style, characters, "backstory", etc. are all different. And most importantly the gameplay is very much different. Sway is all about swinging, Rasta Monkey is all about leaping. What I mean is that in Sway the player is in complete control over the swings, whereas in Rasta Monkey, which, btw, uses a COMPLETELY different control mechanic, it's all about how the level design is in control, and you at it's mercy. It's about timing and momentum of the falls more than controlling momentum of swings. Except, again, he's not named one iPhone/touch to iPhone/touch clone. Samurai may indeed be influenced by Ninja Gaiden DS (although, tbqh, it's really not...the gameplay is in passing somewhat similar, but it is not the exact same). CS:One is indeed highly influenced by Geometry Wars (and, tbqh, Geometry Wars before it by every goddamn multidirectional shooter from more than two decades). But don't lump Rasta Monkey in the argument of "rip offs", as that is doing that game (one of the better platformers on this platform, IMHO), and it's developers, a major disservice.
Greenday's 'walking contradiction' is playing on the radio le dueche thanks for your concern but i do have my to finish my thesis and this is just on my tab window lol! Plus i don't need a girlfriend due to obvious reason now don't make me stop you from finally leaving, bye!
I actually really appreciate you chiming in on Rasta Monkey, as that really is one hell of a game. I worked with noam, on beta testing and what have you and I can tell you they put a lot of love and creativity into that game. As usual you add a razor sharp, addition to the argument. I know your not taking sides, but it seems you at least see BOTH points of view.
*sighs And Nintendo ripped off Ralph Baer, just like the rest of the goddamn industry, because guess what the first light gun game was? That's right... There's a reason he should get the recognition he deserves. BTW, love arta's post featuring EA Mobile's Mass Effect iPhone game, but ignoring stuff like NFS:U, Madden, The Sims, etc. Because, y'know, EA does nothing but NOT push the platform, right? Then again, would they have done those things if not for Gameloft pushing the high end niche on this platform? Who knows? Gameloft fills a niche. They do it very well. They have games that can be stated to be "rip offs" of other IPs, but they also have games that are based on licenses, based on sister company UbiSoft's IPs, and all new IPs (Castle of Magic). It's not all one way or the other, it's a mixture. And they do push the high end of the platform more than any other company, which is amazing considering the heavy hitters they're up against (particularly EA, which seems to be gearing up for all sectors of this market, high, low and middle ground). Sega's the real giant due to the sheer number of IPs, known IPs, across a variety of genres, that they possess. And that huge catalog of classic games. And some of the best devs in the business. But, sadly, Sega seems content staring off into space or something.
Good song! I'm just messing with you bud, having some fun. Although, I do stand by my argument, I blatantly took to an ad hominem approach with you, and I apologize. It's really slow at work what can I say
The point is there is no point arguing! Let's just play the games we enjoy the most and let others enjoy theirs! Great post Spiffyone, i totally agree pls visit this fotum more often i would love to hear your thoughts on DLC though lol! Cheers!
Sega's still busy trying to figure out what went wrong after genesis. They've got their top analysts working round the clock, trying to come up with a solution.
The part about Sega has me rolling on my office floor. It's really sad that now that Rockstar has jumped aboard Sega is not around to push the idevices. if anyone can make original games it's them, but instead like you said they like staring into space.
To get the topic back on track, and because I haven't seen it confirmed or anything: Is Nova 3Gs (and 3Gs based iPod touch) specific? Because there's one or two things in that vid that make me think that build was OpenGL ES 2.0 specific, but I'm not entirely sure. If not, and that's running on the original family of devices (ARM11 and MBX-lite) then...wow...that'd mean that there's a lot of untapped power in those things.
Gameloft didn't mention that this is a 3gs exclusive so it's supposed to work on every idevice. GL seems really good in unlocking a device's full potential as they made some pretty awesome 3dcentric games for ngage 1.0 and that was eons ago!
I think the video is 3GS or new hardware set from 3rd gen itouch. As much as I love my 3g there is no way it can handle those shaders in the demo. But knowing gameloft the game will run on all devices.
Holiday 2010 is the expected release date. So I would think around Thanksgiving this game will hit the appstores.
no, in the video the person says you should be able to get your hands on it when it ships a a little later this year
http://www.slidetoplay.com/story/nova-hands-on They had an exclusive hands on after the Apple event. At the bottom of the article they mention the game will ship this holiday season. The holiday season will start on or after Thanksgiving.
but in your original post you said holiday 2010 which is november. i doubt they would say they are making a game that is probaby 65%+ complete is coming out 20010 november. it's coming out this year
