can someone post a (free) way to get these notifications with an ipod toch (so no 3G) when WiFi connection is available!? somehow twitterrific is not working that way !?! highly wish I could grab one or another title in this event... thanks
Ferrari GT is no big miss. I enjoyed it when I first got it a year ago, but compared to NFS or GT Racing, there is no comparison.
I'm just guessing here, but if Gameloft is serious about trading around timezones for these games, I think we might see a free game either at the top of the hour (15 mins from now) or in an hour in 15 mins. That would cover Asia in the key evening/early nighttime hours. Otherwise, I think we may see it in the evening time in the US (about 12-14 hours from now). I doubt we'll get it in a similar time frame to yesterday.
I'm glad some of you were able to get in on this. The giveaway was probably until 11:55am PST or before and not until noon. The reason I say this is because I tried at 11:56am PST. When I clicked the "free" button, iTunes was already asking me whether I wanted to buy this app and to enter payment info. If I had a credit card saved or loaded my gift card in my account, I'm sure I would've ended up paying for the app. By 11:58am or 11:59am PST, the price was back to 99 cents. Personally, if they're going to do a giveaway, I don't see any harm in them giving everyone a full 2 hours. Or maybe they started a little earlier than 10:00am, and it's counted down to the minute or second. But I guess with the way they're doing this happy hour, it would be difficult to get every one of the apps for free during this promotion.
One option is to enable twitter text alerts for gameloft like explained in the quoted post below. But that would depend on the fact if twitter allows for text alerts for your carrier in your country. It does allow text alerts in my country but not for my carrier :/ Another option is to add all the gameloft games in your appshopper wish list. Appshopper updated the price within a couple of minutes of the game going free yesterday. But the email alert for sale alert in your wishlist takes some time. I got the appshopper email an hour after it went on sale. A little slower than what I'd have preferred here but still more than enough time to download it.
Same here, it was 2:52PM when I got home and it was supposed to end at 3:00PM, but it already told me the price was being modified.
Assuming Gameloft is going to move around the times these apps come out, the early time zones should get some descent times before this promotion is done. I still think a release in the next hour or two is not out of the question and should hit up most of the early time zones before its too late (well NZ will be at midnight in an hour...but Australia/Asia will be at 10 PM or before...a good time for many).
so, I did the appshopper solution... we will see - hope to grad Rouge Planet and the oregon trial *hehe* but I also highly doubt that we will see such titles in this happy hour event. most of the titles will be old and .99ers... I think.
Well I think we'll see mostly older titles, but someone brought up a good point earlier in the thread. Why would Gameloft go to the trouble of doing this ridiculous 2 hour window if there weren't at least some higher end titles up for grabs? If I had to guess, we're looking at mostly older titles like Ferrari GT evolution, Hero of Sparta, maybe a couple casual games, a couple $4.99 ones that are newer by months old, and maybe one or two big releases that will wow everyone (NOVA, Brothers in Arms 2 etc..). By no means do I think it's a sure thing that NOVA or something similar will get released for free, but the 2 hr window makes me think there will at least be 1 or 2 pretty big games offered as part of this.
good point. sold 2 hours is really extreeeeemly short and I think the very main group are such hardcore users and geeks - hope to grab some stuff in next hours *lol*
thought of something else... after the giving away period (namely 21th may) we will see something like "...and for those who missed the giveaway, Gameloft is doing a great one-two day(s) special birthsday sale" or so. this might be realistic, or?
AppShopper solution is not working fine. It will delay and you will missed it. How about this: 1. Create a new twitter account and use this account to follow @gameloft. 2. Use some program in your PC/MAC/iPhone (I used TweetDesk) and set this account alert when any message from the following list. It will also a bit delay about 1 mins. And it will only work in a Internet connection area. I will set it tonight when I go to sleep. Wake up when the alert on. If I go to work or outside, just check the twitter everyhour. Download use a iphone 3G share the internet connection to my Mac. (To prevent the 20MB limitation).
Some method to get push notifications, 1. BargainBin(FREE) - add all Gameloft games 2. Notifo(FREE) - You need a Twitter account, integrate Notifo app with push.ly - you get every tweet from @Gameloft, instantly Slow but works, 3. Subscribe @Gameloft RSS feed - http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/15739966.rss 4. AppShopper.com - make your gameloft list, subscribe your own list Paid method, 5. Subscribe your own list of games at AppShopper.com - email notification to your email, use SmartPush($2.99) to push the email. BargainBin and Notifo works for me.
I highly doubt it. Most giveaways, promotions and other similar type things aren't done just to give away free stuff, but rather to hopefully benefit the developer/publisher in some way. I think this whole thing is being done for the following reasons: -To get people talking about Gameloft. For the next two weeks iPhone gaming sites, forums like this one, facebook and twitter will be full of people talking about this giveaway. That is good for Gameloft. -This is greatly increasing the number of followers Gameloft has on their twitter page. Sure it is used for giveaways but it is also a forum for Gameloft to promote new games. Another good thing for Gameloft. -Based on the tight timeframe and randomness of the hours, most of us who want a chance to a number of the games have set up text messages to our cell phones every time Gameloft tweets. That means now their promotion tweets are not just on people's twitter page but are going to cell phones. Another great thing for them. -I think we'll see some older titles like Hero of Sparta and Gangstar get released to help promote the upcoming sequels. -Finally, the 2 hour window really limits the amount of people who actually get to download the game. Sure they are losing some potential sales, but likely gaining in attention and new followers in the end. I guess the point is that unless it's about just giving away games, there is no way Gameloft offers the games free again for those that missed it. This is simply a clever way for Gameloft to get their products promoted while providing incentive (free games) for people to pay attention.
