i bet many people are getting charged for clicking the buy button still thinking it's free, only itunes is showing 1.99
With a world wide audience obviously not going to please everyone every day. The first two days people said - gee why do you make them free when we are at work/school? This time people are upset it was in the middle of the night US time. Remember it is daytime or non work/school time SOMEWHERE in the world at all times. They are trying to spread the wealth to everyone, not just give 10 games away to the same people. That is why they are not including the weekends in this promotion. It is obvious that no matter what games Gameloft chooses they won't appeal to everyone, no matter what time they choose the time won't be convenient for everyone. As was paraphrased from Abraham Lincoln: you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can`t please all the people all of the time.
Then that is their own fault for 1, not checking the price; and 2, not having the purchase confirmation enabled in their iTunes account.
I'll admit that if it wasn't for your post, that post about the sausage lady would have gone right over my head. Man I feel stupid
I know this isn't going to convince those that don't want to be convinced. But it seems like the naysayers and complainers are think that this is their right and not a privilege. Gameloft does not!!! have to do anything. Gameloft is in business for Gameloft not for you. Yes it behooves them to treat their customers and future customers with respect but that doesn't mean that they owe you anything but game support and fixing software bugs. Everything they do will be geared to help them out, luckily we can usually benefit from their actions. Especially in the case that they decide to give away their hard work. Complaining about the game selection is a whole nother topic You really should look at this like a contest or lottery. You have a chance to win, you are not guaranteed to win. Your commitment is the time spent trying to win. The randomness of the 2 hour time slot and which game is up for grabs is upto Gameloft. I really don't think they are trying to tilt the time randomness towards any thing in particular. And to them any game they are giving away is profit. The reasons they are giving them away can vary and I won't pretend to know what they are. I tend to believe they are trying to give their customers a fair chance at getting a free game or two so I'm not going to complain. I think its unreasonable to think you should get all 10 games for free (altho I'm up for the challange). They could just as easily stop doing it due to the negativity going on. -So don't complain about them giving away free games. -You have a right to express your opinion about why you don't like a certain game. -You do not have a right to complain about how or what they give away. altho you can express yourself about many of these thing, but do it in a positive manner. I guess I'll quit there, but boy it sure is hard getting off my soap box.
Well yeah, I get that, but I think that calling it a giveaway or anything of the like is misleading, which is sort of what they seem to be marketing it as. It's obviously more of a publicity stunt than anything though. And I don't really mind (I already have most of the Gameloft games I have any interest in), but it irks me that they're trying to tell us that they're giving things away for free.
Aren't all give-aways supposed to be promotional in one way or another? They ARE giving away something - one game free for 2 hours. Just because they are not giving away the store so to speak it is a give-away. They get to set the terms - 1 hour, 10 hours, 10 days - no matter. Free is free for however long it lasts. It doesn't have to be convenient. Just because Black Friday sales start at 4 AM on the Friday after Thanksgiving and last only a couple hours doesn't that still count as a sale? It isn't exactly convenient, it only lasts a few hours, and there are limited quantities - still a sale though.
Why is there an argument whether this is considered a giveaway or not? They are giving games away for FREE. They have a choice of how long they set it for free, so what if they don't want to set it free for the whole day? Be grateful they're even doing this.
Hey guys, thought this video should be embedded in the thread. 10th anniversary of Gameloft. If you haven't seen it, it's really cool (I think):
I got Castle of Magic, but I didn't get any of the other games so far. For those of you who really want them and won't mind getting a text at 3 am or something, just turn on mobile updates. That's what I did, and Twitter sent me a text at 3:30 am this morning. Woke up for 5 minutes, downloaded app, went back to sleep, saved myself 2 bucks and sacrificed countless hours to playing a great game by Gameloft. I know it's frustrating to miss free games, I was in school for the first 2 and our wi-fi has password protection, but just stick with it and appreciate what Gameloft is giving their community. At the end, even if you come out with 1 of the 10, that's still 1 new game to your iPod/iPhone right? and did you lose anything from this? Think twice before you openly criticize Gameloft for giving us something free. What would you rather have, this not happen at all? I thought so
Um. What? Oh yeah, my point was that yeah, it is a giveaway. But no one's getting anything. It's not like I'm offended or outraged that I'm not getting free things, just interested in the idea.
Nothing wrong with gameloft's giveaway method. Then again I like making bums fight over spare change. They should be grateful I'm giving them anything at all, and should entertain me by beating each other senseless for it.
