If I need to point out how far ME is pushing FPS/RPG iOS boundaries, then perhaps you don't know enough about them in the first place. How many FPS/RPG games are on the iDevices? Of those how many offer 50+ missions? 50+ hours of gameplay? Of those how many have crafting systems? Or summons? Or 1vs1 online (over 3g) play? Hmmmmmm....... none? So that would almost mean.... it's pushing boundaries?! Regardless if you like the game or not, it's something that deserves recognition. To pass it off like no one likes it with that flippant comment of yours, to pass it off lke it didn't get a 4.5 on Touchgen, to pass it off like it's not getting the most discussion in your very own (#1 iOs game review site wheeee) forums..... just makes me wonder how serious of a reviewer you actually are.
It did get recognized- http://toucharcade.com/2011/03/16/necromancer-rising-goes-free-to-celebrate-launch-of-mission-europa/
Mission Europa isn't pushing any boundaries, dude. All of its core design elements are based on implementations on other platforms -- other non-touch based platforms, which is what makes this game so bad.
First of all, when are you going to understand that content doesn't define shit. There's plenty of RPGs with crafting systems. People generally want a good RPG or good FPS, not a horrific combination of both. LOL 1v1 is pushing the envelope. Are you shitting me? I'm sorry you apparently only buy indie games, but um try out Gameloft's shooters one of these days. Not only are they using top-notch graphics, they've successfully implemented 5 on 5 multiplayer that is completely lag free. Learn something about iOS games before you post worthless trash. Oh, and another thing. No wonder TouchGen reviews are considered such trash around here.
Agreed, I dont think its a bad game, but all it really is is a rehash of older games, and a massive amount of content cant change that.
Something else interesting about the vocal minority of people who love Mission Europa: Of the 2,658 posts currently in the thread, 20 people are responsible for 70% of those. Saying the game is getting "the most discussion" is horribly misleading. The thread is basically a chat room for a couple dozen people which is why it has so many posts and is constantly being bumped to the top.
And just FYI, anyone can get those stats, just click on the number of replies in the forum listing. Here's the post counts for the Mission Europa thread: http://forums.toucharcade.com/misc.php?do=whoposted&t=87494
honestly me is only getting the support its got becauseit was made by one man... if a company made that it would get laughed at.... yes i do have the ce of thegame btw
TA are stupid. They must review all games or they sux. Hodapp stupid. Rantrantrantrantrantrantrantrant On a serious note, it's as if no one has seen a game produced by one man before.
Regarding the whole Mission Europa drama perhaps it'd be better to carry that discussion to the site feedback thread about lack of review, which is where I replied, instead of clogging up the preliminary GOTY discussion.
exactly my thoughts ...if it was as good as everyone says every recomendation wouldnot be based on the fact it was made by one man whos active on forums
Are you eating shit just because millions of day flies do every day? What I´m trying to say: We can still enjoy ME, even if it doesn´t appeal to the TA moderators or a mass audience. Who cares? Doesn´t take anything away from the product besides some free publicity. Hey, one of my favorite puzzle games is almost unknown to everybody. So be it then, doesn´t matter one bit.
Plus, quality and quantity can make some do for each other, but you simply can't have one that is completely lacking. For ME, quantity cannot be argued. That is one of the main reasons people push for it to be reviews and be Game of the 1st quarter. However, the quality is poor to mediocre at best, many aspects are generic, and pales in comparison to other games in the App Store. EDIT: I'm not saying the game sucks either. I beta'd the game and it was pretty enjoyable for a while. But for the reasons listed above, it's simply not a keeper for me and there isn't much about it to make it GotY.
Seriously, the Mission Europa back and forth has gone on along enough... there's a thread for that but this is not it.
Yes it is. We're trying to show that a poll like this could never reflect the true opinion of TA about a subject like this and also trying to provide reasons why ME really doesn't stand where it does currently on the polls. 153 votes? There's more than 6x the people than that just viewing the forums at the moment.
This poll is on the GotY so far, and we're debating whether or not ME should be GotY so far. I don't understand. EDIT: What backtothis said.
True... but given statistical theory chances are that the sample of people voting is representative of the overall population of Touch Arcade forum users. As more people vote presumably it'll stay proportionate to the current layout (as the history of this poll reflects Mission Europa was always in the lead). Alternatively those voting are likely individuals more dedicated iOS gamers than the non-voting observer. I don't understand the logic that there must be some non-vocal majority out there that represents the truth but just won't speak up so we're left with an unreliable measure of popular opinion. What's the point of having a poll if you can't support those results as representative? I get it, a few vocal people here didn't like Mission Europa but the voting majority seems too.
It's called voluntary response bias. Look it up. Also, it's the same damn people voting everytime. And like I argued before in a similar conversation in another thread, what credibility does your vote have if say, you only had ME and none of the other games on the list. This is exactly why all major awards for every form of entertainment is made by a select panel, not a census of all the people in the United States.
