I think I read somewhere that the Program stat affects how many upgrade disks you get when working on a game. Not 100% sure though.
Wait, what? YOU don't have this game yet??? The graphics and UI can be slightly off-putting, but seriously, you NEED this game. I honestly don't think you'll regret it. This is probably the game I wish most in the world that the devs were active on the forums, or at least somewhat communicative, so they could take in all this feedback and use it to make an amazing sequel more suited to these devices. I guess all we can do is hope. But seriously, Gabrien, get this game man! I will gift it to you if it comes down to that!
Just had a huge breakthrough (you can call it that I guess, hah) with the game last night. Aside from taking your suggestions and leveling the characters stats up instead of leveling them up with the floppies, the biggest mistake I realized I was making is not paying attention to each console's market share. As soon as I pumped out my first 2-3 mediocre game releases, I noticed the Game Boy (forgot the in-game name) was on top of the Market. I immediately spent all my money to get its license, did a few contract jobs, and started rolling out the hits! First was an Animal Puzzler, then an Art Puzzler, then eventually hitting big with an Origami Puzzle game. I kept my expenditure to a minimum and kept developing games for whatever console was on top of the market. I've had two Hall of Fame games so far (Life/Dating seems to be VERY good at this!) and i'm in my third office with a full staff, including two hackers. So far I have about 40k - a BIG step up from how I was playing the game before (stranded on a 2k - 3k plateau even by the 10th year). *smack* Gabrien... i've seen a lot of your threads and gone out on limbs getting games because you 'spread the word'. Be a man (haha) and fork out the cash on this game. I can safely say that it's one of the most impressive (except graphically, though it does have a charm of its own) and addictive games i've ever played. I too have been stuck for HOURS at a stretch, unable to put the game down. Give it a shot - there are tons of worse games you could be wasting your money on
All I'm gonna say is, they can keep their game concept designer, (heck, level him up to the max) but should seriously consider hiring new blood in the graphics/UI department. I also hear there's this new hand-held out, with a... Wait for it... TOUCH SCREEN! Hiring a person to focus on touch screen specific design concepts is also a must! (And ok, I am enjoying it in spite of its failings, yes.)
Oh sweet victory... he likes it To those who were nice enough to help me out with the game, thank you. But the game's kind of getting repetitive now I just began my 15th year, started my first portable console a year ago (64 bit, cartridge based portable system) and have had a hat-trick of hall of fame games on it already. Every single game I now make automatically shoots to the Hall of Fame and is always #1 on the charts. Which brings me to my next question: Is there any incentive to keep playing the game (besides winning the million dollar Game of the Year prize) - and that too, does it serve any purpose? Or should I just re-start my game and try to build up my company in a different way? I've already reached the 'top' in this game, is there any higher level?
I've read somewhere in this forum and another forum saying that there is a "monkey dude" to hire. Can someone confirm this? and anyone know how to unlock him? Apparently he/she/it is a natural Hardware Engineer. I know how to get a Hardware Engineer by switching and leveling jobs. I just wanted to have him in my team as well if he existed. I've also made a Hints and Tips Post over @ gamefaqs. Without spoiling anyone in this post, i'll just post the link: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/610758-game-dev-story/56842555
@pandap Sure think, there's a monkey for you, by the name of Chimpan Z-Force. Hardware Engineer from day one. (Can I put pictures hidden behind a spoiler warning in this forum? Haven't really posted much here.) Not entirally sure how to unlock him though. On my first playthrough he turned up around year 18ish. But I don't think it has to do with the years, think it might be when you have saved up a certain amounth of cash, or then again, it might just be random. I seem to remember getting the offer to hire him earlier now on my 3d playthrough. Anyhow, he's probably gonna turn up a whole lot too late to actually wait for him to build your first console. But like you said, it's not about building consoles anymore for you, it's all about watching a monkey sitting behind a desk. Good times. (even though his stats are not that impressive) @kiranb28 Nah, I'm afraid the incentive when reaching year 20 is the big let down in this game, at least for me. That's when the two high scores "freeze". You can go on playing but the game is basically about seing how well you can do up until that point. So far I've been tricked into starting over twice and drastically impoved the high scores both times. Not sure there will be a third start over though. Now I'll wait for the sequel.
I asked before and don't recall getting an answer (sorry if I missed it) but how closely does this game stick to history with the game consoles (i.e will developing for the Virtual Boy ALWAYS be a big mistake)?
Pretty closely. The Virtual Boy drops out of the market pretty soon while systems like the Game Boy, SNES, PSX, etc stick around for quite a while.
Does the game let you influence this? I mean could I stave off the demise of the Dreamcast with a series of HIT games?
playing the game multiple times, it seems like it's triggered at a certain date. we have no control. only your console will never be retired. also the jupiter console seems to launch at different times during my career. i think something triggers this too.
i've played over 60+ years in this game, different games combined. i love this game. please add more depth for future releases and options. tips * hire best employees as soon as POSSIBLE. dev for gamekid nonstop. the license x time it stay on market is most profitable. remember, the first year your workers get paid FREE. updated issues and wishlist. love this game a lot that's why i'm writing this. played through year 50. could use a lot of polish to make it the true king of all iphone sim games. would be great if: - a competitor section with their games, releases, etc. this is a big wish. - better advertising section and explanation of how it affects hype, famous, if it does. it seems redundant to advertise different mediums when they don't add up, just take the place of one. - more in-depth everything like different conventions, concentration at conventions. more reason to why these exist? - more jobs and ability to do mulitiple projects at once and split teams. - why do my damn people keep leaving the seat and talking to others? which jobs hang out with which jobs? - what trait is best for CREATIVITY? - landscape mode. looks way too much like a direct port. needs POLISH like my games do in-game. - explanation of direction and what they do. - a section for reputation and where it gets decreased or improved by failing to finish goals/projects. - ability to retire your own consoles. - longer gameplay than 20 years (reason why so other consoles can be retired too. - set prices for your games. - does anyone know why sometimes one of my employees is available for character art and sometimes he is not? it's random... - ability to have multiple save slots. - do not understand directional/motivational use item. i repeat I LOVE THIS GAME WWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT.
It's not the cash. I suspected it was cash for the bear and that's why I started my 4th playthrough trying to get as much as possible to realize that bear comes in after u get the Grand Prize from the award. I'm on Year 19 with 1.7bil cash on hand and still no monkey>_<
Same here Gabrien. I love the game itself, and it is one of my top apps now. But every time I play it, I'm a little saddened by it being such an unambitious port. I didn't feel quite the same way about Phoenix Wright because at least it takes up the whole screen. And I was just thrilled to see the IP on this platform.
I just got the monkey. I won the best game award for the second time so that could be it? I also won every award except worst game. The first time I won bet game I can't remember if I took out all the other awards. So I think it's either... Win best game twice Win every award (bar worst) in one show once Win every award (bar worst) in one show twice Or it could be none of these, but I got him, I'm presuming, one of these ways, unless it was something else I missed.
Don't read this post unless you want to know other things you unlock. I think that winning all the awards unlocks the monkey. And i guess winning it three times unlocks: Kairobot!!! Ya so i guess patience is important. The game probably has a lot in store that we just don't know about. I restarted my game and i'm only in year 32 or 36 and i already unlocked the game john. Last game, i didn't unlock the game john and i was on year 50 i think.
I think this game is awesome, personally, and well worth the price. I do not think this question was asked so I'll ask it. You can arrange where your employees are seated in the room...does this even make a difference at all? Sitting next to certain people/specialists "buff" a particular person? I've been curious about this.
