Another huge review from Afterpad http://afterpad.com/post/108863927590/steelseries-stratus-xl-review-mfi-iphone-controller @kmacleod:I'm a bit confused though, you are writing multiple times about a Tony Hawk game or even Smash Bros. (which is big N exclusive). But i can't find a TH game in my store... And what about the lag on iOS8 now?Did they solve the problem? Nonetheless, nice review thanks. Anway,i'm quite happy with the Micro Madcatz now,my controller search has hopefully ended for a while
Thanks for posting the review. After hearing about the trigger issues, I'm glad I went with the C.T.R.L.i for my iPad instead. I had even went to an Apple Store the day I ordered it with the intention of getting a Pencil stylus and the Stratus XL, but they only had the stylus. I guess I lucked out there. I mostly use the C.T.R.L.i to play GTA: SA and Bioshock at the moment, so having overly sensitive triggers would have been a major issue.
Lag issues are resolved with the latest Stratus firmwares on iOS 8.1.1 and above Yeah, I test those games using RetroArch for emulation. Very few iOS games actually push controllers to their limits, so if I want to really stress-test them, I need to turn to PlayStation and N64 emulation. It's important to keep that in mind: almost any MFi controller will work fine with most iOS games. It's only the most demanding situations where the weaknesses of each controller reveal themselves!
Installed 8.1.3 on iPad Mini 2, so far so good with Super CF, Final Freeway 2R and Asphalt 8 with Stratus, so far so good. No time to hit the biggies like MH
Hey guys,i have a IPAD+Jailbreak+ICADE but some stuff wont work, blutrol crashes my ios alltimes if installed, what options do i have to continue using my ICADE? Thank you
Can you use Controllers For All to make the iCade controller act as an MFi controller? Many are compatible, it might work
Woohoo! My Madcatz micro is here! Came in a little early than its predicted delivery so im quite excited!
Thanks man! Killed a couple Tigrexes and a Rathalos right away (in MHFU) and it controls really well. Im glad my controller didnt have any issues at all.
Sorry guys to ask you that, I am using an icade Logitech but it doesn't work with more than half of the games that are supposed to work with it, I am thinking about getting a new one for my iPhone 5c, what the best one?
A little review if anyone would like to know, so far i've played with the Madcatz Micro CTRLi non-stop but mostly spending at least an hour or 2 each into different games to test their playability with the MFi controller. So far, my favorite games to play are the top-down games. The xbox placement of the left analog stick makes this easer to the thumbs and the hands in general, if compared to the playstation layout. Best ones i have played it with are Oceanhorn, Wayward Souls and Bastion, and it's really good with Minigore too. The FPS titles play really well too, but it takes some getting used to to effectively aim with the right analog stick. This is actually true with all console FPS titles. Nothing beats the control the mouse gives you, and i seriously think that, strictly aiming-wise, the standard touch-and-drag to aim on touchscreens controls much better than an analog stick. That said, Shadowgun works so well with an MFi controller, and so does Dead Effect and Bioshock. Havent tried any other 3D shooters yet, i have a few to test. For more melee-oriented 3D titles like MHFU and KOTOR, the MFi controller is divine. How i wish Heroes and Castles has MFi controller support. Hopefully the sequel would have it. Havent tested much of the platformers with MFi controller support, but so far Limbo's pretty solid, and platforming in Miss Claire Garden, Dodo Master and Traps N Gemstones are pretty accurate. I dont think Madcatz Micro shines with platformers, but it works pretty well. One thing i havent tested yet are the Telltale titles. Im not sure if there are other point-n-click adventure titles that have MFi Controller support, but i think those'd be cool.
We're really hugely lacking in RPGs with MFi support. Chrono Trigger for one is screaming MFi controller. Chaos Rings Trio as well. And then there's the Kemco titles. Would love to play Doom & Destiny with a controller as well. And then Cardinal Quest 2. Swordigo feels like it should have it too. And Shadow Sun, as well as Heroes and Castles. Im glad of the ones that do have the MFi support like MHFU, KOTOR, Oceanhorn, Bastion, a few of the FF titles, Wayward Souls, and Across Age 2, but man is the list pretty small.
Awesome, glad to hear you got your Micro CTRLi and are enjoying it! On the subject of point-and-click style adventure games with MFi controller support, I've been playing a lot of Fahrenheit over the past few days, and it's amazing. And plays WAY better with an MFi controller. Not a true point-and-click, it's more gesture-based, but it's a classic
^Thanks Kevin. I have my eyes on Fahrenheit, just not a priority since i completed the game twice back on the PS2. Im going to replay Lost Echo with the MCMicro since i really enjoyed that game. Are L'Phalcia and Quest Minimae the only JRPGs with MFi controller support outside of bignames like Lunar and FF?
Ahh, never mind then It seems there aren't many, yeah. Try Record of Agarest War, Spectral Souls, all the games by that company.
