I wonder where's the MOGA bluetooth controller that they teased last month?
They said they're going to announce it at GDC but there was no news about the controller at all on the toucharcade front page...

I was going through the list of games that have controller support on the MOGA page (and while more than half of them DO NOT support MFi controllers, there's a few I was wondering about...) - anyone know if Repulze is going to have controller support in the future?

Don't know if this has been mentioned here, but the game "Bit-1" has now controller support since - 12th March 2014.

Same here. I kept watching TA's GDC coverage every day for mention of it. I bought a Steelseries Stratus a little over a week ago, and am finding it too tiny to really feel like I'm getting the full benefit of using a controller. I think I'm going to return it while I still can and wait for one of the full size bluetooth controllers to be released. Since I'm already used to the Xbox stick layout, the Moga seems like the best candidate. From the teaser photo, it looks like it's an iOS version of their Pro Power Android Controller. Hopefully it'll support charging a phone like the Pro Power too.

  5. Yeah, not too much about mfi at the gdc, too bad. Nothing about upcoming joysticks, well, hopefully one will come soon. There are about 6 upcoming rumoured ones now.

I was also surprised not to see it revealed at GDC, I know Moga was planning on revealing it there. Assuming no major delays, I'd guess it will be revealed at Macworld or PAX, both of which are happening within the next few weeks.

I'm a bit more excited for the Mad Catz one, personally...

Why are you more excited about the Mad Catz one? Are you aware of any special features of the Mad Catz, or is Mad Catz a better brand than Moga?

Also, for some reason I thought the Mad Catz one had PS3 analog stick layout which is why I was looking forward more to the Moga, but I just looked and realized the Mad Catz also has Xbox stick layout. So now I'm neutral on them unless I find out something better about one of them.

Generally speaking, Mad Catz is a premium brand ('90s me would never have imagined I'd be typing that).
The Console / Android version of their controller has received excellent reviews, with many reviewers considering them better than the standard console controllers.

Moga is inconsistent. The Android version of the Moga Rebel has ridges along the handles of the controller that I find very unpleasant, personally.

madgarden might bring EGGNOGG to iOS and with it, MFi controller support for same screen multiplayer on iPad.

    which would be beyond fantastic.

I may skip over EGGNOGG and go directly to EGGNOGG2, which will just be a better EGGNOGG anyway. But yeah, that's the plan!

The Steelseries Stratus is not currently compatible with The Bard's Tale.

I emailed inXile. They know about the problem and are working on it.

How do you like yours? I bought a Stratus a couple of weeks ago at the local Apple store, and ended up returning it, mostly because I found it too small. For some games I found it was an improvement over using touch controls, and I like how portable it is. However it's so tiny that I didn't get as much improvement over touch controls as I'd like. I still found it hard to be precise with the tiny analog sticks, and I especially found it awkward to use the triggers, especially in driving games where I need to hold down a gas trigger for long periods.

Technically it worked fine, so for people with smaller or more flexible hands it's definitely worth a try. The main technical criticism I have is the L1/R1 triggers. I don't like the fact that they're pressure sensitive instead of using travel for analog input like an Xbox or PS controller. With a console controller, the farther you pull the trigger the more input you're giving, so in a driving game for instance, you can easily tell if you're giving full throttle because you just pull the trigger to the stop. With pressure sensitive triggers there's no way to definitely tell if you're giving full throttle, or half throttle, etc, so I'd end up having to just squeeze it really hard, probably harder than necessary, just to be sure I was giving full throttle. I wonder if pressure sensitive triggers is an Apple requirement for MFi controllers, or just the way the Stratus is.

I'll wait until the Moga or Mad Catz Bluetooth controllers come out and see how those are.

I have fairly small hands, so the Stratus is perfect for me. It's also good because it doesn't take a lot of room to carry to work and so forth.

I can see how some people would need something larger. But it suits my needs.

I can't speak to the triggers. The games I've played so far only use the controls on the face. What game were you playing that used them?

The games I played which used the triggers are Asphalt 8, Real Racing 3, and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, all driving games. In Asphalt and Real Racing the game had an option to use auto gas, so I didn't need to hold the gas down and only needed the brake trigger. The Sonic game didn't have an auto gas option when using the controller. Some other games I tried it with were Prince of Persia Shadow & Flame, Bike Baron and KOTOR. Bike Baron was the only game I tried which didn't need to use the triggers. It's definitely a nice gadget, especially how portable it is, and I could tell that if it fit my hands better it would definitely work nicely with those games.

Are you sure this supports the MFi protocol? I found it on IPEGA's website and I don't see mention of MFi anwhere, nor in the brochure image you posted. Here's a link to it on IPEGA's site. What's more, the fact that the same device supports Android phones, and that it can be found for sale online for under $25, makes me suspicious that it's not really an MFi controller. Of course it would be great if there is now a $25 MFi controller available, but I'd think it would have been mentioned by now on TA and other mobile gaming sites if that were the case, and it hasn't.

EDIT: I searched some more and found reviews of this device from as early as Jan 2013, well before MFi devices were even out, so it's not a new device. It seems that on iOS it only supports iCade-compatible games. So unless there's a new version of it coming out with MFi compatibility, then this isn't an MFi controller.

EDIT 2: Oh, I just realized you're not saying this is an MFi controller, but rather you're saying that the Controllers for All jailbreak hack will support this controller, which presumably would then allow it to work with MFi-compatible games. Sorry for misunderstanding, but I'll leave my post up for anyone else who missed your point like I did.

It doesn't - that's what Controllers For All is for. It's a jailbreak app that enables a selection of additional controllers to work with MFi compatible games ;)

If anyone is curious as to what the next major MFi controllers will be, I put together some mockup images of what the Mad Catz CTRLi and Moga Rebel will look like:

    Mad Catz CTRLi:

    MOGA Rebel:

They're just mockups, since no official marketing images of either have been released, but I'm reasonably sure they're close to final.

Here are some pictures of the latest Razer Kazuyo renderings:

These were just published for the first time today.
