Yup, just finished writing up an installation guide about it The Mac version isn't very intuitive, but I can confirm the update works
Update to my last post... my controller/ipad seemed to have gotten freaked out after playing a quick game of mikey shorts (turned off afterwards) then upon turning on the controller again it would not function right at all (only shoulder buttons worked). After repairing controller a few times it didnt fix the issue, but for some odd reason power cycling my ipad air seemed to do the trick. If anyone has this issue, give the ole ipad a restart, it may help. I am hoping that this was just a freak occurence...
That's odd, unpairing and re-pairing the controller worked for me. Anyone else having issues with this?
Didnt see your guide for this but is there anyway to update this firmware if my computer has windows xp only?
so the firmware update looks good to me. unfortunately the steel series is just a really bad controller for SNES games, or anything twitchy really. the buttons have too much "give" before they even start registering a button press. kind of disappointed in that aspect. it's good enough for most games since most games have forgiving controls (native games being based around a touch screen and all) or anything that really revolves around the analog sticks (minigore 2 is a blast), but for something that requires incredible amounts of precision like Super Mario World, it's not that great. can anyone comment on how the buttons feel on the Logitech or MOGA controllers? how far do you have to press the button before it's registered in the game?
Old games especially ones not even designed for MFi "analog" input will suffer this problem. Simple explanation All old games.. Are digital button presses.. Ie. 0=no press 1=jump/fire as an example. 2 levels of input.. When you press the buttons on a MFi controller the data is not 0 or 1 it is 0,0.1,0.2,0.3 etc.. Increasing in pressure the harder you press down.which is many levels of input. This is a brief explanation of why some games you need to really press down for something to happen.
That is not the issue. The Steelseries does not send a value > 0 until the button is about halfway pressed down. I tested this myself in code. Buttons have two properties you can access: pressed and value. value is 0 to 1. I was listening for any state changes and was logging when either pressed == true or value > 0.
I can't say that I'm familiar with the specifics here but digital controls shouldn't send any signal until the key is sufficiently depressed. Better controlers are more sensitive like the old NES pad but knock-offs are typically crude and require the button to be near full depressed. Just sounds like a crap controller to me that gives degraded results for games designed and play-tested on better controllers.
[ Sorry, I maybe misunderstood your initial question.I think you maybe talking about "travel distance" which all game controllers have. and they all vary in their distance/response times..this is down to mechanical parts used and quality of build.. Some are better than others. Without a unified special util and equipment to check each controller individually under the same test environments, how can we measure this distance accurately? We are talkin microns here, I agree with you on the stratus "travel distance" it does seem a little big.
just playing Respawnables, may I ask, if there is a dedicated button on the controller for the scope on the sniper gun?
I hear what you're saying - I don't agree that it's a problem at all, and I've played several precision platformers without issue - but I do get what you mean. The Logitech has stickier buttons, at least at first - took a few weeks to break it in. The Moga controller has fast buttons with much less resistance than either of the other controllers, it's probably closer to what you want _____ In other news, Metal Slug 3 got the update! Been waiting on this one for a while
Does anyone know of any games that support two controllers at the same time? Wanting to pick up another steel series stratus for my kid if we can play games together.
Metal Slug3 & Blazing Star both have 2 player co-op mode over BLueTooth. I tested on 2 MOGA's which works great..also tested on a MOGA + stratus, had to turn off Wifi for it to play without lag. Stratus is BT so it eats the BT bandwidth. But can confirm a MOGA+Stratus plays good on both the games. Not tested 2 BT controllers yet, anyone?
Thanks for the info. I didn't think about a situation with bandwith for bluetooth, hope its not an issue though.
I need to test this stuff more, I haven't really dug into multiplayer yet! I will explore this more soon...
I was thinking of getting the Duke Nukem game - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/duke-nukem-manhattan-project/id663811684?mt=8 - but read a review in the AppStore saying that it kept locking up with a MOGA controller... Has anyone had any experience with it?
New mfi controller announced from mad catz, looks like the moga ones for android as it has the flip up arm to hold the iphone: http://engt.co/1jZHyQI
