Sorry for not putting this in my previous post... it probably would have been a little better to quote this instead and include my comment about your site...

I just wanted to also recommend Fur Fighters. I bought it when it first came out, and had no clue that it was updated to support controllers... it's one of the only FPS titles that I've been able to play through completely with touch screen controls (NOVA 2 and Deus Ex are also in that very small list, but they don't have controller support...). It's a great game, made even better by a physical controller. =o)

Hey, thanks, I appreciate it! That site is a bet that MFi gaming is going to keep getting bigger and bigger - so far so good :)

Fur Fighters was updated without much fanfare, yeah. That is a shame, it's a really good game.
I forgot to mention that it only supports Extended layout controllers, though - Logitech users are out of luck for the time being.

ok guys.. so I just got a steelseries controller, and have a little issue with it, and I'm wondering if others see the same thing. Trying to pinpoint if this is a bug in the controller, a developer problem, or a problem in Apple's API even.

There's significant jitter/latency when pressing a button and holding a direction on the D-Pad at the same time.

For example, in Mikey Shorts, if I don't move and just press the button to jump, there's basically no latency and I can jump on queue (like if I try to jump again the second Mikey hits the ground). However, if I am pressing right on the D-Pad to run, if I then press the button to jump there's a variable amount of time in which it takes for little Mikey to actually jump. Sometimes it's immediate, but sometimes there's a significant lag to the jump (with the most lag, the jump happens by the time I release the button).

I also see the problem in Super Mario World in this SNES emulator (not jailbroken): https://github.com/lmmenge/SiOS

Has anyone seen problem before? Thanks everyone.

Sh*t, yep! I had this last night and thought it was just my B button not having been worn in properly so I switched to my phone and the Logitech. I've only noticed it on Mikey with the steel series but it is the only speed runner I've played with it. GTA SA, 2k Drive, Badland seem okay but they're not B button intensive.

I'm just going to try again.

Btw - congrats on the TxK music. From the top drawer.

You're right! I can't believe I missed that, though I've mostly been playing with the Logitech. I haven't run into this in other MFi compatible games yet, but I'll do a more thorough test tonight

    Hi, also looked into this,

Mikey Shorts Plays great on Logitech & MOGA Ace, i tried on my Steel series and also found this Lag,
I can "confirm" this is a problem with the Bluetooth communication on the Steel series controller.
I can also confirm it is not an MFi Bluetooth issue, it is solely down to the Stratus controllers firmware.
Can someone try a PS3 dualshock on Mikey?

    This is really, really bad.

I'm detecting this problem in every game I've tested - it appears to be a design flaw of the SteelSeries Stratus controller. Holding the D-Pad and pressing a button causes the button press to be delayed by about a half a second. Doesn't matter which button.

Pressing the button independent of the D-Pad does not exhibit a delay, and neither does combining a button press with the analog stick.

Neither the Moga nor the Logitech controllers exhibit this problem.

Can anyone else with the SteelSeries confirm this?

I sent in a support request with SteelSeries and brought it up on Twitter - hopefully there will be some news to report soon...

Yep, sorry, I saw that you replied at the same time I did ;)

The good news is, Apple requires all MFi controllers to support USB firmware updates. It is possible that this problem can be fixed via firmware, if there aren't any other workaround possible.

I'd recommend everyone who experiences this problem to contact SteelSeries via their website, or @SteelSeries on twitter.

For that matter, is anyone with a SteelSeries Stratus controller not experiencing this problem? That would be interesting as well

Glad that I am not the only one seeing the issue with the stratus controller, although it served me just fine until I noticed the lag while playing mikey. Hope it gets fixed soon!

Yeah, I went back and tested Sonic and Mos Speedrun, and the problem is definitely there too - didn't notice it until playing Mikey either, though!

I'm hoping (and assuming) this problem is fixable via firmware update. I'd be surprised if it wasn't. Just hoping SteelSeries does the right thing and acknowledges the problem ;)

I believe this to be a hardware issue to do with Bluetooth Com sharing, the steel series uses a BT chipset that has limited I/O channels, (low cost) to compensate for the lack of I/O the chipset automatically assigns unused I/O (keys that are not being pressed)
Sometimes there is a delay in assigning I/O , this is what we are experiencing in Mikey, and infact any game that use the D-Pad Combo and action buttons combo, as Kev pointed out.
    .
It can be fixed in the firmware, but I am afraid it will be done on BT chipset manufacturers level.(may take awhile depending on how close Steelseries are working with (BT Chipset) manufacturer..

There is a quick fix, and that is to figure out least likely button press combinations, and re assign them his way.
but this is not really a fix, but it will be less obvious fix in games that use the dpad, action button combo, just so happens it might be the shoulder buttons/dpad that show the bug for example.

Either way it needs to be fixed, agree with Kev. Very bad ..not sure how it passed MFi approval.?

That all sounds plausible, though we don't know. Hopefully it'll be fixable either way...

Great find guys! Just to be clear, this really does appear to be a problem with the SteelSeries? I freaked out when I first saw Mikey and controller lag, so I just wanted to confirm that you are all seeing this with other games, right?

Yes, absolutely - Mos Speedrun and Sonic both experience the problem.
You can work around by adding analog joystick support as an option, since that doesn't experience any lag. Plus it's just a good idea anyways to give people choice.
Sorry I didn't tell you about the lag on twitter yesterday, but I honestly didn't see it - I use the SteelSeries the least of the controllers, and everything works perfectly on the Logitech and Moga.

    confirmed on other games!

Yeah like I mentioned yesterday, add left analog stick for Mikey control, I prefer this over the d-pad any way, always good to the give that option, plus as Kev says it's a work around for the d-Pad stratus bug.;)

I'll add that to my TODO list, and take a look at adding analog stick support.
