Keep in mind guys, the DS4 does NOT have pressure sensitive buttons. That could potentially lead to incompatibilities with some games further down the line. DS3 is likely a more compatible bet. Still, for those willing to ride the jailbreak train, this is good news for now!
Also, I'm not really sure how a touchpad would work on iOS - the MFi controller spec doesn't call for one, and the nature of trackpads means it would be difficult to make it correspond with the touchscreen of the device. Games would have to be hard-coded for support, and I really hope that doesn't happen
The touchpad on the DS4 is like a laptop trackpad on the middle of the controller, above the sticks - DS3 didn't have one
Yeah, the DS4 has a touchpad, 2 analog sticks, and a traditional Dpad. Sony threw everything they had at it...
Yeah, I was confused before, thought touchpad meant dpad. So the dpad, analog stick and buttons all work fine on a ds4?
For now, yes. The buttons on the DS4 aren't pressure sensitive, though. The MFi spec requires buttons be pressure sensitive. This could lead to future incompatibilities. You can imagine a game where a soft button press makes your character swing a sword and a hard one stabs it, or a racing game where a soft press of the x button makes your car drift and a hard button slams on the break; these would be incompatible with the DS4, but would work on the DS3
idownloadblog is wrong. The issue with Pac-Man is to do with the game not the DS4. The programmers programmed Pac-Man controls for landscape orientation only. Works fine that way. When switching to portrait, controls are not remapped and everything is off.
I see. Also interesting in the Shadow Blade thread that jailbroken ps3's joysticks are working better than ios 7 joysticks moga here: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?p=3111941&posted=1#post3111941
I've read that ds3 is more stable on many games than the ds4. though ds4 doesn't require any other programs for it to pair with your iDevice. And ds4 ofcourse, is much cooler than ds3.
Honestly, I really wouldn't recommend either. Still, if you're going to get one, I would definitely suggest the DS3. The pairing is irritating, but it's potentially more compatible later
Go for the ds3. It's cheaper, has pressure sensitive buttons and better battery life. The triggers aren't very good but you can get those clips to attach onto them. And doesn't have that big useless light on the back. Downside would be to have to repair it using a mac or pc if you re paired it with a ps3 or if you wanted use it on another ios device.
yeah. but you only have to set it once right? Though Bluetooth Stack always bugs me, is it always on?
You only have to pair it once if you only plan to use that ds3 on one ios device. Btstacks auto turns on and off for the ds3 so it shouldn't be a problem.
