Nah... I prefer the steel series. But im reserving judgment til i get to test them both when they hit the shelves.
So sad to see so much attention on jailbroken ps3 joysticks. Never realized that so many people on Toucharcade were jailbroken. If steelseries doesn't get any sales, don't be expecting too many new controllers in the future. It's easy to give praise to things that come free, but I fear it will open up a new can of worms with jailbroken folks complaining in threads and on itunes reviews that they are having jailbroken exclusive issues with their joysticks. Too much fragmentation is not always a good thing. But maybe it is Apple's fault for not coming out with their own stick or working with sony or microsoft for an established stick. So many people jailbreaking their devices now, and sales for proper ios 7 joysticks will suffer.
If Steelseries doesn't get any sales, it's because it's not the controller that people want. Honestly if you saw it on the shelf, it looks really small in comparison to a traditional controller. I think if a company were to release one that looked like a PS3/360 controller, but also looked like it had some quality behind it, you would see a much more favorable response. Personally, I tried to give the Stratus a chance. I could have lived with the size and would have been thrilled but unfortunately my iPhone 4S running iOS 7 wasn't good enough to be worthy of using a controller, I'd have to have something better. That's what led me to the PS3 solution since I had not other choice. I know, my fault for not having the latest greatest hardware so I shouldn't complain.
Cool, congratulations! I'll look forward to playing it when I can Thats interesting - I know MFi support was promised as a Mavericks feature, then never mentioned again. I wouldn't count it out for a future OSX revision, though. Alright, that is pretty freaking cool - great job. I wouldn't worry too much about that. Touch Arcade isn't the best sampling of what average people do - lots of enthusiasts and developers here. The current controllers are way too expensive for the quality of what you get. Time will fix those problems. The demand is there - this should only accelerate things. Such as forcing SteelSeries to drop the price to a less unreasonable one.
I actually want an official MFi controller... But quality and price is ridiculous... I will def get one.. But not yet... This tweak... Is a temporary means until something decent arrives with a fair price tag. But now I can enjoy gaming with a quality controller.
Yeah, both of those work great here with every controllers I've tried That's absolutely fair, and don't think you're alone in that. MFi controllers need to be cheaper and better, and they'll get there in enough time.
don't worry about it, demand is strong for ios controllers, this is just a great alternative for us. And it just really works, and it is very good. I think manufacturers are just taking advantage right now, because their is no real competition yet, thus the high price for these controllers. May be on the second half of the year will be seeing lots of decent cheap bluetooth controllers and a real competition between manufacturers. To be honest Steelseries is really good, I want one too, but sadly to say, can't afford it.
Yeah, I understand, and I can see why so many people are jailbreaking for joystick support or were previously jailbroken. Just reading this thread, it makes it seem that everyone is a jailbreaker. Maybe it is time to split this thread into two, one for jailbreakers and one for true ios 7 joysticks. Already on the main threads and here too there is alot of talk about whether games will work with jailbroken sticks. I definitely can see why people would want to raise incompatibility problems with jailbroken sticks, or asking if games work with them, but it would be nice to have a thread just for true ios 7 joysticks. Just a suggestion, but if this converts to a jailbroken joystick thread, than that is fine too, as someone here said before, people are jailbreaking for joysticks, just join them. Guess it's natural to want a good ps or xbox controller.
Unless they get the ds4's touchpad working on ios then no. I believe the battery lasts longer on the ds3 also. But you can pair a ds4 directly to an ios device without the need to use a pc or mac unlike the ds3 pairing method.
