There is no spoon. PS3 controller works just as well on my iPad 2 as it does on my iPhone 5. Here are games I've personally tried with it: Playable and with menu navigation: Across Age 2 Battle Supremacy Bastion Clash of Puppets **can't lay traps though Critter Panic Into the Dead (sluggish) Kingdoms Fall *full control when you load a game Meltdown Minigore 2: Zombies Oceanhorn Reaper: Tale of a Pale Swordsman Shantae: Risky's Revenge Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Spiral Episode 1 Snow Spin Playable (but no menu navigation): Asphalt 8 Galaxy Run Jet Car Stunts 2 Mos Speedrun Nimble Quest Phoenix HD Shadow Blade Strikewing: Raptor Rising Sign of life: Ravensword: Shadowlands (only pause works)
Hi guys, Just added support for MFi controllers to IMPOSSIBLE ROAD, the update is live on the App Store. You can use d-pad, either analog stick, shoulder buttons or triggers. No need to use the touchscreen to progress through the menu, just hit any button. And hold all 4 face buttons for a quick reset at any time. I'd recommend trying the analog triggers on the Moga - they're pretty fun. Kevin
Awesome work; seriously. Absolutely a must-buy for anyone with a controller. I'm going to write a comprehensive review for my site as soon as I can get my hands on it, but none of the Apple Stores in California have any!
I tried ordering the Stratus controller but its not available in Canada till late March. This made me order the PS3 controller for my jail break iphone5s. Your loss Steel Series.
It appears the latest iOS 7.1 beta fixes the exploit that allows for the jailbreak - proceed with caution. The PS3 controller works excellently NOW, but there is no guarantee that's going to remain...
I do think this whole jailbreak joystick thing is kind of a set backwards in a lot of ways. Just when the first detached joystick like the Steelseries stratus has finally come out, all the press has been about jailbreaking and using ps3 joysticks? Why is this bad? Because manufacturers will sell a lot less joysticks which hurts them considerably, and it fragments a really small market to begin with. It's just another can of worms for developers. Imagine all the negative reviews games are going to get in the appstore. All these jailbreakers will complain and give low stars if a game doesn't work on their jailbroken systems with ps 3 joysticks which were never meant to be supported. This may cause some devs to wonder if it is even worth it to put joystick support in the first place. Also, more importantly, people will be less likely to buy an a true ios 7 joystick because frankly, they will think that they should wait for an xbox or ps joystick instead. And not only that, this gives people reason to jailbreak, which probably isn't the best thing for apple and the ios 7 industry.
If you can't beat them... join them. Just add official support for PS3 joysticks, Apple! You know you want to
Head scratcher alert: I just tried Shadowgun Deadzone with an MFi controller, just for fun, and guess what? The analog sticks work perfectly, but nothing else. You can run around and look around perfectly, but that's it. You can't shoot. I really hope they update this for MFi support!
I agree that every one of those points is absolutely true - I just don't think any of them matter long-term. Manufacturers will sell a few less controllers; none will exit the game - others would immediately take their place. There are already 8 different MFi controllers announced or leaked - are there even that many 3rd-party PS4 or Xbox One controllers yet? Combined? The sheer volume of controller makers fighting for a piece of the pie is the sign of a cutthroat competition for large stakes, not the sign of a failure. As for developers, yes this will open the door to potential compatibility issues, but it will also give independent developers a cheaper way to test their games. Should be a wash overall, I think. People WILL be less likely to buy a true iOS 7 joystick now - nothing wrong with that, the current batch isn't particularly great. The Logitech and Moga controllers were going to stop selling as soon as a decent competitor hit the market. All this DS3 hack does is raise the baseline of quality that much higher, that much sooner. The manufacturers need to up their game. Also, I personally think that using the DS3 with the iPhone is a terrible experience. Great with the iPad, but there is still a market for the Powershell / Moga Ace Power style design. Just... better. As for jailbreaking, if the entire market for iOS game controllers could be completely co-opted by a 2 dollar hack, there wasn't a market in the first place. Personally, I think the potential market for controller customers is huge - far bigger than the number of people who'd ever consider hacking a PS3 controller to work. I haven't really gone in to what I think Apple's plans are for this market, but I'd wager it looks very little like a bunch of second-tier manufacturers building $100 game pads. I think they're building a library of controller supported games for another purpose. Considering what such a purpose could be leads to some very interesting possibilities... Yup - ppsspp support coming soon too! Yeah, I tested that one and noticed the same thing. I believe it works because limited controller support is built in to Unity. Games that use Unity's default movement / look controllers get controller support for those purposes for free. Developers would still have to do work to get the buttons mapped correctly.
"NBA 2k14" & "prince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame" have both been updated to include controller support.
my wish has been granted. can someone with a ps3 controller and an NBA 2K14 game make impressions/review about the controller support, how it is?
After yesterday's Steelseries disappointment, I jailbroke and download Controllers for All last night. Going out to get a Dual Shock today. Trying to look into mounting options and wonder if this would work: http://buy.thegameklip.com/products/gameklip-casemount Of course by the time you get a Dual Shock and something like this, you're getting closer to the $99 mark for a MFI controller.
how did it feel in the hand, it looks so small, was it comfortable? Would you have been happy Tobias it if it worked with the 4s? Cheers!
oh..thanks! though i would like to know the comparison of it, between using a joystick versus the virtual d-pads. Will the gaming experience be better. And NBA 2K14 is my favorite game so..
Not sure who Tobias is, but it would have been... convenient for carrying around. The controller felt pretty comfortable in my hands, but it really is small. I think over long periods, your hand might cramp up due to the size, but it wasn't too bad for the short period I held and "fake" played. I have a Gameboy Advance Micro which is tiny as well and the Stratus definitely felt more comfortable than that. Honestly - I probably would have ended up regretting not waiting for something bigger and comfortable, so this is actually a blessing in disguise for me. I think it's good if you want to take it with you for playing on the go, but really if you're going to use a controller, you probably should get something bigger.
