If apple speeds up the process of these controllers, it means games need to change. Instead of simple 2D indie games, devs need to launch IB level apps. Apple don't want iOS to be on a level like psp vita and consoles. No incentive here for money hungry devs and apple cut will be less.

Apples casual gamers are all about Angry Birds etc. That type of game and free to play will always make more money on the casual scene. iOS isn't in hardcore gaming level yet.. It can be, but it will be a slow process... and Apple is doing what it can to slow this transition further, by pushing back controllers.

I simply don't understand this point at all. Premium games have done quite well, like X-Com and Infinity Blade. Also, there are tons of casual games that use controllers. Apple's policy is that games MUST use touch screen, and be able to be played with nothing else. They put the controller code in the OS so it would be easier to implement gamepad controls. No extra work for developers. So, Apple is king of casual/free to play. Shouldn't they try to expand their base? Wouldn't this be a really easy thing to do by attracting hardcore gamers with controllers, while at the same time keeping, and growing, their casual base?

It's not like a physical store, which only has so much room on their shelves for games. If that were the case then ok, your moving more copies of Angry Birds, so we need the shelf space and we can't have games sitting around not selling. I get that, but they are selling digital downloads!

I am a hardcore gamer. My 64gb iPad is full of games. I play games like Dark Souls and Ninja Gaiden, but I also enjoy Angry Birds and Super Mario Brothers. Why can't I have a console experience on a device that is perfectly capable of providing it? ITS NOT COSTING APPLE A DIME to let companies release controllers, and it's not going to hurt casual/indie developers. If anything, it will bring them MORE business by attracting more gamers.

Sorry for the long posts, it's just this lack of controller support has been grinding my gears for years. Now everything is in place, and Apple is slowing things down?!?!? *sigh
    I just don't get it.

Great thanks for the review, it's good to get some feedback from an actual user of the controller! What u played, COD? That's what I'm looking forward too!

  4. Yeah, this whole ios 7 joystick thing is going pretty poorly. When I realized that apple wasn't making a stick, and they didn't reveal it at the ipad reveals, I knew it was on apple's backburner. Too bad, it's really gonna miss this xmas cycle pretty much, if there is no good xbox or ps type stick.

Agree. Games are MUCH easier to play with a real controller, with the exception of a few, like Plants VS Zombies and Battleheart. I played a ton of games with icade controllers and also ps3/wiimotes using BluTrol. I even have that Duo Gamer pad for Gameloft games. Perhaps if I had never tasted how good gaming could be on ios, maybe I wouldn't be as hungry for REAL controller support via the OS.

BTW, I'm in no way trying to bash the MOGA or the Logitech pad. They just don't meet MY expectations. I'm sure many of you will love them, especially if it's your first taste of using a controller for ios games.

I grabbed the moga today. In my testing riptide gp 2 did not recognize the controller and did not work. Asphalt recognized a controller but saw it as the logitech layout and had blank inputs under the buttons, game did not work either. These were the first two I tried so I thought I may have a bum controller but dead trigger 2 and limbo worked after that.

As for build quality it's typical moga frankly. I dabble with android devices too out of curiosity and the android moga line feels just as cheap and hollow. It hurst that the price is what it is and you don't get Bluetooth but beyond that, to each their own on making the choice.

Gof2, cod and storm raiders worked in game, not in menus. Bastion and zeldahorn worked fine enuf too.

Oh man i agree i also have the duo game controller and played it with Nova4, ashphalt and that other call of duty look alike game... Soo fun. I had no choice but to get the moga, works really well with call of duty and king of fighters but i havent tried the other games where people say there is mapping issues or not working properly for riptide 2 and ashphalt. I was gonna get Riptide 2 as well but i will wait to see if they fix the issue.

I hope they have support for Shadow Gun soon, looks so fun. But yah i am happy with this controller so far, not bad at all. Time to try out Ice Rage!!

Yup! CoD is excellent with this device, it works flawlessly no issues i encountered. You are welcome.

  9. The Gameloft duo gamer was pretty awesome. Sure hope they can somehow make it ios 7 joystick compatible, that stick would sell well right now if it did.

Agreed! Also I believe R* are updating GTA: III & VC to include controller support.

  15. So sad...

Went to the Apple store to check out the joysticks. I ask one employee where the ios 7 joysticks are, cause I wanted to check them out.

He says what are they? I tell him they are new joysticks for ipads and iphones, he says he's never heard of them.

So he yells out to another apple genius, and the other guy says he's never heard of them either, and if they had any, they would be in the accessory section, which of course, there weren't any.

    So sad...

What a joke!!! Did u explain to them what it was and how they were meant to be stocking them?

I hate that people don't see the big deal with these controllers, might not be perfect yet but it will be bloody sweet playing COD with sticks on a phone!!!!
