Even though the review score is still solid, the review itself misses the mark in my opinion. How can someone say it's too much like the original board game where they added a completely new turn based mode and additionally, a massive and unique single player campaign, which in my opinion is a stroke of genius - too often with board games, no matter how rad they are, I get burned quickly when playing match after match (for me, Eclipse comes to mind). The campaign here keeps you busy for many hours while gently introducing new mechanics. On top of that add all the multiplayer modes with different sets of timers and this is by far the best iOS board game implementation ever - easy!
I doubt this will come to iphone, it'd be way to hard to build your ship with all the tiles on the board.
Actually, the company is working on an iPhone/iPod version of the game as we type. They are hoping to release the update or app as soon as possible.
Can't agree more; few boards games hold my interest(Blood bowl,Elder sign, Warhammer) but this is just sublime.I have not touched the multiplayer , yet still feel I have got my money's worth times tens.
Never played the tabletop version, but the game is clever and fun. It definitely doesn't pull any punches after the tutorial, which keeps it challenging and the single player campaign interesting.
Galaxy Trucker in Essen For everyone who is at Spiel Essen fair this year - we have a booth there with Galaxy Trucker app, feel free to come and try it out! Hall 1, booth F-145
Hi again CGE! I have been playing this on and off since release and are getting interested in the expansions. Do you have any plans on bringing them to the app and if so, is there a time line for that? I'm also interested in the ETA:s for the iphone and android versions. Pedroapan
Hi there! Yep, we definitely plan on implementing the expansions, but right now is the main focus on having the game up and running on iPhone and android devices. The ETA is before the end of this year. We will definitely let you know on Twitter and here as well.
@CGE, another expansion(s) question: i haven't played the cardboard game but have the app (very nice!) and i have a few questions after watching Dice Tower reviews of the expansions. first, i read this about the first expansion at BGG: "The expansion is not fully compatible with the first edition of Galaxy Trucker". can you briefly respond on that? and second, and more important, i noticed that each expansion came with card sets and components unique to themselves (obviously). Tom at Dice Tower said some of the card decks could be used to make the game somewhat harder, some could be used to make it somewhat easier. some ship types would make it harder, etc. my question is do you have an idea yet how each will be implemented? Will we be able to mix and match? pick this card deck from expansion 1, choose these ship designs from expansion 2. stuff like that or is it either all of the expansion or none of it? thanks for taking the time to help us out here and can't want until 'before the end of this year'.
hmmm, Spiel Essen is over, it's 46 degrees and mostly cloudy where they live, so why no answer in the last 3 days? the only excuse i'll accept is if they've been busy working on the expansions! but please respond to my post. thanks...
I'm not CGE but I know what the bit on the BGG page was about. The very first cardboard printing of Galaxy Trucker had a different background image on the back of some of the elements. They changed it for the second printing. When the expansion was produced, it matches the second printing of the base game and not the first (owners of the first printing could get a "compatibility pack" for free). In short this is nothing to worry about. If you buy the game now it will be a fully compatible version (in fact I think any edition in the UK or US market - co-branded with Rio Grande games - are second printing or later). And it certainly doesn't affect a digital edition.
These long time async games are stupid. I wait a whole day for my turn, then when I get the notification, I open the app, I start up the game, load the one in which my turn is up. Watch a short play of the last player's action, then I get to t a card, then wait another day. No wonder the real pro game designers on a podcast I listen to say this type of gameplay is a terrible design decision and can kill what is basically a good game.
Hi Mack, sorry for the delay. It is however exactly as @shadowphiar said - now you can buy only the 'second edition' and the expansion are fully compatible of course. We are not yet sure about the exact implementation of those expansions, but you probably should be able to mix and match. Will try to find out more and post it here as soon as we are clear on the plan.
