Ok I'm in the TA alliance. I like games like this as I play Game of War regularly, but owch the learning curve on this one. It's a looker though. Gorgeous graphics for this type of game.
Game Impressions Personally I had to delete the game after an hour of trying to like it. It reminds me too much of Mafia Wars and it makes me wonder why a game like this needed to be made. People loved GOF1 and 2 including myself. When I heard GOF3 was in the works I started saving up for an Ipad Retina. I really hope they do not make GOF3 Fremium. I can tolerate some IAP but please make it a premium game. GOF3 with multiplayer and maybe some sort of PVP would be fantastic. You could also go the episodic route like The Walking Dead games. Personally I would buy every single DLC and episode as I enjoy the universe. Good luck Fishlabs. If GOFA is a success (I hope it is!) it won't be because of me.
Got kicked.. Been active two days straight level 15. No idea why. In game name is Digi. Hope to join soon
I apologized for that in a message and said I was new and didn't know what I was doing. I didn't mean it...
Tap, wait, tap, wait, tap, wait..... Is this it? Just another generic tap and wait game, another Simpsons or clash of clans, putting timers in your way to hopefully make you pay for whatever currency they need? The trailer shows ships flying about, adventure and cool visuals. All I've seen so far is 'Simpsons tapped out' in space. Am I missing something? Do I need to play for longer? When can I fly my ship out into the universe and start taking it over?
This type of game has always had timers, even before iap was a twinkle in satans eye. Timers are essential as it takes time to attack someone, which gives you time to organise a defense with your ally's and friends.
I think I was just expecting something a bit different, based upon the previous games and the content of the video showing the game off. So there is no flying about, no exploration, no 3D visuals, no waging glorious 3d battles with direct ship control, just tap, tap, tap and wait, wait, wait? Everything is done from the screen with the planet on it? As for the timers, there are pro's and con's for them.... I personally can't stand them, in my opinion they are just a method to slow a player down to encourage them to spend real money to bypass them. Plus the cost of the iap's? £69.99??? Really? That is more than a PS4 game would cost! And the real kick in the nuts is that once that £69.99 has been spent, you will probably need to spend it again. I understand that companies need to make money, but there must be a better way of doing it than this! £70 on a temporary bit of virtual funding is quite frankly, a rip off! Yeah you can buy the cheaper packs but that is almost as bad, opt for one of those and you will instantly feel you got a bad deal due to the better exchange rates of the higher priced options. Anyway, I shall check back in about 6 months, just to see how well this game does. I personally think it will be consigned to the history bin by the end of 2014!
I am incredibly confused as to what I am doing. I've been following the tutorial missions for awhile, but I colonized a second planet way towards the start. But what am I suppose to do with that planet? Everything seems really vague and without end. I feel like a chicken without a head. The game just seems incomplete with all this lack of information.
You'd think they would have polished up the game during beta. Or maybe they except the beta players to inform us of how this game works.
Agreed, I think the game needs a comprehensive guide explaining all the features and systems. I can see a lot of potential players giving up because they don't understand what to do. It seems like the devs are assuming that everyone has played this type of game before, but if they want to reach out to a broader range of players and keep them engaged, they need to provide a bit more guidance. Just my two cents.
I was expecting something a bit more like the gameplay of the original games. I guess I'm just lucky I have a soft spot for this particular genre. The graphics are good for this type of game, and it's the possibility that fishlabs put an intelligent spin on the formula that keeps me coming back. I would have had my first taste of this genre back in 2000 with planetarion. I remember checking in every morning before work, and again when I came home to make sure my empire hadn't been attacked, or that any of my ally's were in trouble and needed my fleet to save the day, just in the nick of time! This was the days before iap and pay to win, but clearly the genre and iap were made for each other. I agree that getting started in this game (or setting up a new planet) is time consuming. It's tap tap tap, as you say. But once everything you want on the planet is up to level 3 then the timers become longer and I only check in a couple of times a day.
I agree as well. I've been plodding through the tutorial missions and I think I'm starting to understand how to navigate but it's all very confusing and there are more questions than answers. I don't like the timers at all and will probably give up on this before I get too far into it. The 3D visuals are pointless and really offer nothing at all to the gameplay. Those visuals in the trailers give you some false illusion that this game has more to offer.
I have been really enjoying this game, and the community aspect. But I have had to stop playing because it was becoming increasingly time consuming. I will come back to the game in a month or so when i have some more free time. Happy raiding! and hope to see a big base of ops around when i come back. Thanks to everyone for getting this all up and running. Was fun
