I got a buddy of mine to buy it. He's really competitive, so I used that to my advantage. While texting about other stuff Me: ...hey, would you do me a favor and download this game? *provides hyperlink* I'm #1 in the world. Bet you can't beat me. Friend: ...oh I got that game. Your score's as good as beat. His GC is johnsom1979. We'll see how he does. Hehehe
iPad 3 with 7.1.2 Anyone reading through this thread, I implore you to pick this game up while it is on sale for .99 cents. Galactic Nemesis shreds (in the best possible contemporary version of Galaga kind of way)! AKD: you rule, dude!
It's hard to say no to a game when fellow Touch Arcadians are flipping out over it. You guys are awesome! Downloading now! Sorry I didn't get it earlier, spent two weeks with the flu.
OK, this is an absolutely fantastic Galaga-like! Really does a great job of capturing the feel of the original while adding some new layers with power-ups and ship upgrades. If you like the classic arcade games, this is a fantastic way to spend a buck!
Looks like it's starting to pick up a little steam. You don't see that very often after a game has been out for a little while. That's good news. All it takes is a handful of persistent people to keep pushing the game......it doesn't hurt that the game is fantastic either. Lol.
Finished 1-4 in my second attempt, almost made it on the first try. Final score of 62610. I was repressing squee's all the way. (when the blue critters broke out in level four an audible squee was heard and my wife came in to check on me) As a curmudgeon, (born in the 60's) the old arcade classics like Galaga and Megamania on the 2600 still run through my blood. If you were to somehow implement MFi controllers this would be amazeballs! Right now though it's dripping with awesome sauce and I can't wait to get deeper in the game, unlock more level, more ships, and blast blue critters!!! Thanks for an awesome ride and breathing life into some great buried memories!!! You rock!
HA! Thanks for that experience. I love hearing about how people react to the game and how it brings back the memories of the classics. I definitely wanted to honor their memory and not ruin it. As for MFi support, I'm going to order a controller this week and try to test it out. It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to translate but would want to play it for myself and be sure. Since I personally have not played any games that do support controllers I'd love some suggestions of games you feel that have done it right. Do they normally have the menus still as touch controls, or is the entire experience done via the game controller? Thanks for any help with that, and when that feature is being built, I'd love for you to beta test it for me if you have time! - Charlie
If you have access to an iPhone 5 you can get a Logitech PowerShell ($12.95) or a Moga Power Ace ($33.99) pretty cheap on Amazon, I use the Moga. If you do not have access to a 5 or 5S, the Mad Catz CTRLi (also available in Micro) is highly praised and about $50 As far as menus go, there are many games that do not have menu support and gamers may whine a bit but usually overlook that. They would rather have the gameplay spot on but having menu support would be a nice touch. There are several of us with controllers that have TestFlight on our phone if it comes to needing feedback. Thanks for the response!
Perfect! thanks. I have a ton of devices for testing, including a 5. I don't trust simulators. I'll grab one of those you mentioned for sure. When the time comes for beta testings, I'll be back to get emails from you. Do a lot of the controllers support the portrait orientation? I've seen a lot of them where you snap your phone in, but it's always landscape.
Hmmm, I hadn't quite thought that all the way through but your probably right, you might only be able to support bluetooth controllers. Bummer. By the way, everyone please remember to leave a review in iTunes!!!
Would probably be cool with the iCade tho! I think someone I work with has one, perhaps they will let me borrow it for a bit. :-D
Took this for a spin, and i really enjoyed it. I love how this is a free-movement shmup rather than Galaga's left-right movement, but in an environment familiar to the classics. I finished 1-4 on my first attempt, and it felt great, but game over in the next wave. Then i upgraded the second ship as much as i could with what gold i have, and the experience just elevated from good to fantastic! I really like the upgrade system as it rewards playing the game in the long run. On the downside, i think we need to know the scoring mechanics. It took me about half the time to complete 1-4 with a pimped ship, but got way less score.
Take a look at this. It's the "missing manual" which explains all things scoring etc. I may be updating the game over / win screen in the future with more of a breakdown. Hope this helps: http://cs54.com/galactic-nemesis-the-missing-manual/ - Charlie
