I would agree with Plasma Sky. I love that game and Glorkian Warrior too...a really fun take on the genre. I haven't played Sky Force and Chillaxian has a certain charm which I will go back to explore, but Galactic Nemesis has taken over my gaming life for almost 2 weeks and I'm not done with it just yet. I still have to unlock and upgrade 1 more ship plus beat 2 more endurance 1-12 levels and work on high scores on various levels.

I've also been thinking about if/when to start coin hording for the unfinished upcoming world: Electric Steel.

Charlie- Do you have a rough idea of when you'll be finished with Electric Steel? Are ES aliens going to be shooting lightening?!

My hope is to have Electric Steel ready in the next 2 or 3 weeks. Once I submit the update, it's up to Apple, could be 5 days more, or up to 14. :/

I'll be testing the idea of aliens shooting lightning shortly. It will need lots of testing to be sure what happens to you when lightning hits you isn't too annoying. I'll try and make it epic. :D

Wow, that is quicker than I thought.

Was "electric" referencing anything in particular? The only thing I thought about was getting zapped by aliens...it would be cool if lightening worked, but it could get really crazy!

To add another dimension, I thought it would be cool if the aliens that do hit you with lightning either cause your guns to jam, or potentially slow you down. The last part on slowing you down is what I am afraid would get annoying so I'll need to try it out & see.

    More questions about scoring:

    1) Do you lose points every time you use a shield during a round, or just the first time? Same with special abilities.

    2) How does playing the endurance challenge effect your score? Does it give you more points than playing the level sets individually?

An idea for a future update: collecting the health power up while at full health restores your shield if you have one equipped.

    Hey Guys,

    Just saw this review..
    http://www.godisageek.com/reviews/galactic-nemesis-review/

I agree with a few points he made. I am working on BG music for sure just in case you're into that, seems a lot of people just turn it off. Since he was playing on an iPhone 4, that's definitely not the experience I was targeting, but point taken there. Apple leaves no choice, even targeting iOS 8+ you still have to support the tiny screen on the 4S. In the end, I still did end up with several days / weeks of dev just to make sure the experience there was as good as possible. Perhaps I can find a way to improve it further.

His one point about it getting too redundant I kind of disagree with. I get what he says about common attack paths, but I have a feeling he didn't play long enough to experience the variety. Each set of stages has its own few attack paths, and the further you go, those change. If anyone is wondering, I did that for a few reasons, it was to increase difficulty as the game progresses with harsher attacks, and on the flip side, if you're REALLY stuck on a set of stages, you eventually learn what all the possible attack paths could be which then allows you to develop a strategy to beat each set of stages. If I had just randomized every single attack path for every single stage / alien it would all end up feeling too chaotic.

I would love your guys / gals (Fauxlina that's you) feedback on this review and what points you think I should take away to add them into the next release!

Good questions! Here are some answers:

Q: Do you lose points every time you use a shield during a round, or just the first time? Same with special abilities.
A: If the shield is in use, you're not maximizing your points, regardless which shield # it is. Same with the laser, or the armor piercing bullets. One exception is the bullet doubling which you can use and still get the max score (and of course you can grab"P" powerups).

Q: How does playing the endurance challenge effect your score? Does it give you more points than playing the level sets individually?
A: Endurance challenge scores are added to your total score for the world/galaxy. I have not checked to see if the total value of what you can achieve in individual stages adds up to the max you can expect to achieve in an endurance challenge.

There are definitely a lot of variables that would go into getting the MAX MAX score, which includes shooting down the turrets asap to make sure a new one can come in! :-D

Speaking of games that are reminiscent of Galaga/Galaxian, my favorite for iOS (before G. Nemesis, of course) is Galaxoid. Minimal business but solid nonetheless. And thanks for the GC request, AKD. I've been meaning to get you on my friends list since I noticed your epic Particle Mace scores.

I have to get serious now about the second world and unlocking/upgrading some of the better ships. I became really focused on completing all the challenges for Lost Transmission--think I still have a few left, too.

@Charlie - thanks for answering my questions in post #187. That was a big help!

I'll have to check into Galaxoid. Thanks for accepting my request, I see you on so many leaderboards, always ranked right up there!

Yeah, Obsolescence is the world I need the most work on, score wise. I'm now ranked #1 on the other 2 leaderboards and #1 overall. Also managed to get my spot back from paulkane. aaannnd.. I think he's taken it back already. Jerk! :D

Eh, I wouldn't sweat it. That's just one person's opinion. I think the controls are perfect. If the guy would have picked his thumb up and repositioned his ship, he wouldn't have had a problem. I still play a lot of games on my old 4S and originally I had this game on it and had no issues at all. I just changed to my iPhone 5 so I could have the game with me at all times. As far as sound, I dig it the way it is. It reminds me of old games like Pac-Man and Space Invaders where you only had the tune right before the game started and after that it was just sound effects. I wouldn't mind hearing BGM during gameplay, it would probably be pretty cool, but I don't think it's worth the extra effort IMO. It's totes good as it is. Besides, that's one person. Look at all the reviews on the AppStore. I don't think there's a single review that mentions the need for BGM or control issues.

Not so fast! I almost near perfected TL 5-8. I think I got hit right at the end of the final wave with 1-3 enemies left, but it was enough to bump me back up to #1.

    Come get it, AKD!

Charlie: Thanks for explaining the scoring again. I was dubious about the fire doubler and have been too scared to use them for fear of a lower score. Also when I was playing yesterday I looked to see if my score jumped when I shot out a gun on the spaceship, but it did not change. Are there points awarded for shooting them out? I thought it was mentioned previously that shooting the guns out did give you points.

TL high scores are starting to get extremely tight.

Any idea what the possible MAX high score for TL is?

Agreed, thanks Noen. There were some valid points made, parts tho, felt like he just needed a cons list or writing about it was a chore. I agree on music, not 100% needed in this case. I tried several versions of bg music but it always got annoying really fast (even long loops).

This review I love, you can tell by the content he took time to really play it:

EDIT: Checked the code, it does appear to be a bug, turrets are not giving anything extra to your score. The question is, do I fix it in the next version, or leave it? This opens up new high scores. eek! Sorry guys!!!

I'm not sure of what the exact high score is. I've thought about finding out and publishing, but does that ruin some of the magic of you guys finding out? If you guys do find the High Score, I guess it's dibs on who achieves that high score first. :)

Ok, cool. Thanks for checking on whether or not the turrets were giving up their points. They're being stingy!

Keeping the max scores a secret is fine with me.

I've been playing Obsolescence with the TX3 this afternoon, trying to maximize my scores and I'm getting clobbered. I can't even finish 5-8 and 9-12 levels avoiding all power ups. It is tough and I'm probably suffering from TL easy-itis. I have to take a break.

Oh, I grab it every time. I still can't get through the levels. Not even close. I have to change strategy. I need to see some rise in score!

What's worse, getting a shield and keeping full power or being down 1/4-1/2 power through most of a level stage, with regards to high score?

Great question. I'd say it's better to have a shield and maintain power vs losing power, especially if its the only way you can beat the level. There's some balance to that, I'll check the code and edit this with some more exact infos. :)

@Charlie - IIRC, you mentioned earlier that you were going to add the missing manual to the game in an update. That would be really cool, especially if it was expanded upon to help understand the scoring a lot better. I think I've pretty much got it now, but it would help new players that want to get serious about scoring.

About this review, I think the guy did a pretty good job but didn't spend enough time to understand what it was all about. And why was he playing on an iPhone 4S? Lol.

As far as not having BGM, I think it's great without it. But if you do add some in there, it would be cool if you have the option to turn it off.

I also think he missed the point of having the enemy patterns and weapon drops static vs randomly generated. It's hard enough to memorize things and finish the endurance challenges the way they are! :) Overall it seemed like he liked the game though.

Thanks man, we had a great time making that trailer!!! Hope you enjoy the game!

Thanks for the reminder, I totally need to update the missing manual. I'll be sure and get it updated tonight when I get home!! Agreed on the BG music. :-D
