Hi, thanks for the info download guys. Plus the in game help is quite useful. I'm still trying to figure things out as there's a bit to take in, well for me anyway. One thing I can't understand is what does "hit" mean on the character card? My hit is something like 27-41 or so. I can't work out exactly where this came from or what it means. Also in battle using attack I'm doing about 31 damage give or take using a pakal laser level one which just grants +50%. Using the I game help it says damage is calculated as d10 + weapon + STR. That pakal weapon doesn't display any damage on its card, only +50%. So say I role an 8. The damage (I thought) should be 8 + 4 (that's the +50%) + 17 (that's my characters strength) = 26. Is that right? If the weapon doesn't say anything about adding damage but rather a percent, is that how it's done? Then what is "hit" in relation to this (well I thought it might relate), because doing the maths, the best I can roll is a 10 giving me 32 damage.
It's calculated using 50% of the sum of the die roll plus your characters strength, not just the die roll. It's that way so that the strength of the weapon will grow even more (than a weapon that isn't using a %) as your characters strength grows. If your character strength is 17 then the attack is: (d10+17) + (50% of (d10+17)) So a low roll would be (1+17) + (50% of 1+17) = 27 and a high roll would be (10+17) + (50% of 10+17) = 40.5 (rounded to 41).
Be the First to find a Pin in the Game, Get a Real One! We're going to try something a bit off the wall to see if it works. This is a beta (small scale version) of a 'hunt', available to all current game testers. Throughout the current build of the game, characters have a (random) chance of finding a 'pin'. There's at least one on almost every map (there aren't pins on two very small maps). The pins are found in some chests as part of their random loot tables and can also be found on 'unique' enemies. In the current build being tested there are 12 pins in all. Here's the deal: If you are the FIRST to post (in this thread) your own screenshot of an in-game pin that you have found, we will send you a 'real' version of that exact pin! The pin you'll get is 1" in diameter and all of them are hand-made by us. They are (currently) quite rare, the pins that we have are prototypes and there are only one or two of each in existence! Let the great GK pin search begin! We will likely do this again in the future (and after the game launches)...depending how this 'beta' goes
Damn I'm at work and I wish iCloud sync was already in because I started a play through 2 days ago on iPad...here I have just the iPhone. So tempted
Thank you so much for explaining. That makes a lot more sense. However, and I have been making notes of such minor nuances, I think there's possibly justification for reviewing some of the way things are worded in this game. Just like a card game (say hearthstone), the description on cards and instructions in this game already concise yet the wording is very important. If I press on help and have a look at the battle info, it states (typing this in my lunch break from memory), that attack = d10 + weapon + STR. I took that as the explicit order of things. Therefore a +50% weapon adds 50% of the d10 only. If you follow the explicit order in the help menu. I don't think how a % attribute contributes is mentioned anywhere, so that was my interpretation. Just saying, There may be some cases where working is v important. Another example. I found a weapon that says+ 8 damage, +12 damage in 3 turns. I initially thought this meant 8 damage added and 12 damage added for first 3 turns. I then thought it meant 8 damage and 12 damage distributed over 3 turns (ie 4 damage per turn). I later realised, but still not yet 100% on this, that the word "in" is better replaced with "after". Meaning on the 4th turn, the damage changes to 12 instead of 8. (And I'm still not certain of that). Just an example of how we the idiots who play/and love your game may interpret things if you let us.
Very true. A bracket is probably needed. In many cases, we've tried to keep things as concise as possible and that's where the problem lies. I think you're referring to the Temporal Blade, pictured (partially) in the Rodge Pin screen. So, the damage dealt by that weapon is tricky indeed! The effect on the card, '+ 8 damage, +12 damage in 3 turns' is quite literal in that the sword adds 8 damage on the turn you use it and then, 3 turns later, it inflicts 12 damage on that (future) turn. So if you were to block 3 turns later your enemy would still be hit for 12 damage on that turn (noted in the battle log as 'residual damage' which is a catch-all that sums up all damage inflicted from temporal weapons, crit fails/hits etc.). If you were to continue to hit with that Temporal Blade, after 3 turns every hit would have an additional 12 damage inflicted on top of the 'current damage' of 8...so it's actually doing 20 damage after 3 turns of attacking. Kind of confusing, but you're dealing with a weapon that is probably imprinting a damage echo through time. The down side to that weapon is that you have to wait 3 turns to get the full benefit of using it and until then, it's not really a great sword compared to others you'll find more easily. The benefit is that you'd be hard pressed to find a sword that grants +20 damage. You are right, there are instances where the wording could be interpreted in a variety of ways and this is one of those instances. It probably needs more clarification. If this were an actual board game (that didn't calculate the values for you) there'd likely be a lot of bickering and rule searching.
Well, sadly I have not recovered a pin yet. However, after playing for the last hour or better I've remembered why everyone has a right to be so excited about this game. Can't wait to keep exploring and discover some new stuff that I didn't run into the last time I played (which will probably be a lot since a died so much in my last outing!)
Hey GildedSkull, I would like to offer up my pin to PointOfLight if that's ok by you. I think he/she deserves it more since they've been in here longing for the game since 2009! PointOfLight, do you want the pin? And perhaps any you find/found in the meantime? Just for the story I actually found the pin before you had declared them in your post gildedskull. I must've been crazy lucky. I actually found it, tried to equip it, and then thought well what do I do with this?! It was going to be one of my next questions before you said anything about it!! Haha
Currently you can't equip them, but you will be able to soon (you'll be able to equip as many as you can find). We're going to leave the effects a mystery. You were lucky! Both the Temporal Blade and the pin are in the loot table of the same chest. There are quite a lot of other things (and some 'junk') that you could have gotten instead.
That is very generous of you, and I would love a pin. However, there are certainly others that deserve it much more than I - Pitta, for instance. Of course whatever anyone ultimately decides I won't complain, but as one who loves to search and scrounge for things in games I'd hate to rob a person that's already done the due diligence of their rewards.
How about this: The next person to post the Rodge pin gets one Just so you know: There are two pins available on the opening map (but remember, they are in randomized loot so you may not get them) and one in the 'new', small map to the south. There are at least two in the 'cavern' to the east across the bridge, one of them...be careful. I won't say any more, I've said too much already...
I can't get 0.7.7 to download and I'M BLAMING YOU! It keeps stopping at about 85% and just sits there... I've started the process over about 10 times now, different WiFi locations, and even tried pulling down via LTE...
At least your battery didn't die I've never seen the process "stop" with that much left to go, but this latest build has never completed for me either as far as Testflight is concerned. I can still run it, though.
