December Update Here's a quick update and a video. There's still a lot to do before the game will be in ship-shape. From the looks of things we'll be launching in 2014. We're currently working on enemy AI, battle flow (you'll see in the video, turns currently happen very quickly, there's not turn notifier for the enemy or if a turn is missed, the scrolling battle readout is actully 'printing' the wrong way...fixes to those issues are in the works), and adding important gameplay-altering map-based specials and items. One of the specials we're currently working on is 'Hologram Armor'. This equippable item allows a character to move on the map unnoticed by enemies (it's tied directly to the enemy AI). Here's a video showing it in action. Special effects on the character (token) are currently unimplemented: upon using the armor, the token will become semi-transparent and should have a glowing 'trail' visible when moving. Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Here's an explanation of what you're looking at in the video...and a little bit about what's going on behind the scenes. Near the beginning, before the character has used the armor, an enemy next to her is flashing. This means that the enemy has seen her. As soon as she uses the armor (becoming invisible) and moves away, the enemy forgets about her and goes about what they were doing before they saw her (protecting their territory, guarding their 'leader'). Part of the enemy artificial intellegence involves 'territory'. Enemies will remain (roughly) within a given area of the map, their territory. They will attack past that territory if they feel threatened. Each enemy also has a specific view distance too. You will notice near the end of the video that while two enemies hone in on the character, there are other enemies nearby who are ignoring her.
the die Notice the die now: it appears when you need it (at the beginning of your turn), doesn't get in the way when you don't.
I like it. The whole thing looks pretty amazing. I find a certain sort of irony in the fact that some of the best looking digital games are visually modeled after old fashioned board games Anyway, have you considered adding Dice+ support to this game (maybe not right out of the gate, but as a first or second round update)?
Dice+ would be so perfect for this game. We'd have to figure out the best/easiest/fairest way to simulate a d10. I wonder what their install base is, how many are out in the wild...
That's a good question. I can't actually use it because I only have an iPad 2, but the concept seems really cool. Maybe by the time you figure it out and update your game if you choose to do so I'll have upgraded
I'm glad you are still working on this game. It looks great. Think you might get it released in 2014?
First 2014 Update So...first off...yes, we think that Galactic Keep will be realized in 2014. We are working our hardest to get a version of the game out and into hands of a few testers as soon as possible. What does that mean, exactly? We'd very much like to have the alpha complete by the end of this this month. We're taking big steps towards that goal...and it seems possible. A quick update on what we're currently focusing on: Most recently we've finished the experience and leveling system. Experience is granted for defeating enemies (no experience for completing objectives yet...the objective system still needs more work). Get enough experience and your character will level up and gain a skill point that can be allocated to an attribute: We're also working on the in-game messaging. It'll include a system for messaging about enemies, quests, significant map elements. Instructional text too. Enemy messaging (triggered when meeting, fighting and killing various enemies) is virtually complete and it really adds a lot of flavor to the game: That's all for now, more to come soon!
Despite all the time has passed, every time I see a new GildedSkull post and Galactic Keep infos, I'm hyped all over again. Keep up the good work!!!!
Just when I'm about to forget about it, you guys suck me back in! Let's hope for a release this year.
Every new screenshot is sending shivers down my brain. Good luck (and sleepless nights?) for the last days before alpha is ready!
iPad Screens In the spirit of 'merging', here are some brand new, in-progress screens from the iPad version of Galactic Keep:
Woah. Looks awesome, as always did. Despite all the time has passed since I first saw the game, I always feel this game has so etching special.
New development update live We just posted a new developer update. You can check it out on the GK site, in the NEWS section (or on the main page).
Well this looks really nice. But it's seriously been in development for 5 years? I didn't read all pages but for the devs sake, I hope it's coming to other platforms not just ios coz apples 7 day window of visibility is going to be a real kick in the balls after that long in the oven <sob>
We've had a lot of kicks in the balls with this game...so we're used to it. iOS will come first, then others will follow. True dev time is a lot less than that...we've developed four other titles in that time (one unreleased), two of which had many, many updates (with lots of content). I've also had two other major creations: Kids! That's been a lot of work We've had to move on and off the project several times...we consider the current version 'GK 2.0' as it's completely different from our original demo (I think there are some screens of the old version early on in the thread) and our early conception of what the game was supposed to be. But, yeah. The Apple app store has changed since we started the game, that's for sure. It's bigger. haha.
Hey Thanks for the reply and insight. I wish you best of luck and success with it Count me in for day one download
