    Your message makes the assumption the user has not purchased the app.

    Also;

    Transmit the device ID to be cross referenced with and confirmed by Apple's sales records. Incongruous data would be substantial grounds to begin litigation.

  2. Of course, if it is litigation you are after, you could keep a record of the GPS data sent from the phone and sort it according to the devices' id. If you receive enough data from that user, for example multiple entries from a single location, especially if it happens to be a residential area, you can probably assume that that is the pirate's place of residence and notify the local police. If they come the door, request the phone, and the device ID matches...then you have your records for evidence.

    As for the legality of all that, I have no clue whatsoever. I don't think cases of this have happened for courts to make a ruling.

    But the main point is... isn't it actually a little bit scary what someone might be able to do?

    I do know that any game or app can be cracked. Having said that, perhaps multiple sets of crack alerts could be set up, one after the other.

    Example:

    1. Hacker cracks game. plays game and sees pop-up every 10 minutes "You Are A Thief!"

    2. Hacker re-cracks it removing the annoying nag message. Another nag appears..."You Are Still A Thief!"

    3. Hacker cracks it again. This time some functionality is lost...maybe save-games don't work.

    4. repeat 12 more times with different results.

    I don't know if a hacker would ever give up or just see it as a challenge.

    Cheers
