Hi Peeps, I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Tommy Mayer, I started the Fumes project along with Justin Halliday. I worked as a programmer on this project and also did some of the environmental and track placement work on the game. Looks like Fumes will go live to the app store next week sometime, probably Thursday(US Time), which is cool. With that in mind, we really want feedback on 1.0, when you get it in your hands, so we can incorporate improvements in subsequent updates. We will listen to all constructive feedback, and where possible, find a way to implement those changes. So here's your chance to make an impact and help us make Fumes awesome. You can ask me about details on the game and it's production also, and I'll be more than happy to talk about that. Also, we are already hard at work on the 1.1 update of the game, which adds, among other things, iPod integration, more tracks and visual improvements, so depending on the timing, we might be able to incorporate early feedback into the update. Until then... I'm off to terrorize other threads on this forum with my opinion! Cya! Tommy.
For racing games the only thing that matters is framerate and handling .... i'd much rather have lower quality graphics but rock solid constant 60fps than a wavering rate and shiny fancy graphics (talking GT Academy here) So to dev.... please do all you can to optimize and use the gyro for handling (if you're not) it made a massive difference in RealRacings (already good) handling and feels much more progressive and connected. Other than that .... cannot wait for this one .... Stunt Car Racer is a classic gem and deserves a good tribute which this looks to be
Hey synagence, Thanks for the comments. As you point out, framerate is incredibly important for driving games. The trick with the iOS devices is that there's a large discrepancy between the processing and rendering power of the iPhone 3G, the 3GS, the iPad and finally the iPhone4. We've spent a great deal of effort balancing the strengths and weaknesses of the different iOS variations to ensure a playable framerate. Having said that, Fumes does have framerate differences on the devices (the app is Universal), with the 3G, 3GS and the iPad running at around 30fps, and the iPhone4 running faster (and with higher resolution). As for using the gyro for the handling, we have accelerometer (tilt) and touch controls in the game now. We'll look at the new iPhone4 gyro in the course of our updates. Justin Halliday Sector3 Games
We support iPod Touch 2G devices, so I think it will run well on the 4G. In terms of performance across all the the platforms, it is something we will address in an on going fashion, hopefully make the game more optimized with each update. Tommy.
Haha... dont laugh... we still test *most* of our games on our trusty 1st gen iPhone .. for shits and giggles It sits on my desk near the edge, hoping it will one day fall off and never be found again! So, you meant 3.0fps didn't you?
Well we are trying it is pretty darn solid on 3GS and above, we have made improvements for v1.1 on the 3G too. The good news is the game is out tomorrow out time (AU) October 13th, so hopefully will be available worldwide sometime during the 13th.
