why not try to follow multiplayer standards instead of creating some kind of a cheat mode? what is the f meaning of such multiplayer and eventually showing wins and looses in such mode? Just write after the game - Friendship has won. It's not fun too see the number of looses in game stats.
How is having a level non-rubber banded playing field a cheat mode? Surely if anything rubber banding is technically the cheat mode. I'm not even saying ditch that way of play, just having a separate one. I'm well aware of "multiplayer standards" if there is such a thing having played games all my life all the way through from the NES to the xbox 360/Ps3/Wii and usually the standard is to not pander to lesser players. I apologise for having my own preferences... Call me crazy if you want but I really have no interest in a rubber banded online, I want to play my friends at the game and see who is geniunely better at the game, not who was aided more. I still really enjoy the game, and will continue to do so offline. Hopefully the leaderboard system, if they get one on game center, might give me a chance for true comparison.
Tried out the multiplayer and it does seem to be working fine. Great job Halfbrick keep the updates coming!
I'd say rubberbanding has been around for years helping the lesser player not get destroyed. Think Mario Kart. When you're in last place that's when you get the most mushrooms, red shells or Bullet that takes you to 3rd or 4th place. The best player, in first place doesn't get that nice of choice on weapons. The get a green shell or one banana.
I really don't have anything against rubber banding, I think it should still be an option; just I, personally, would prefer for a non rubber-banded game mode and don't think I am the only one. Does no one else want that? Mario Kart is one of my favourite games of all time though, epic, regardless of how terrible Nintendo's online is. You have the option though in Mario Kart to turn off power-ups etc. and while that definitely might make for a boring game of Mario Kart the option was there. Sometimes people just like pure and true competition, I am definitely one of those people.
No, she has her own iTunes and Gamecenter accounts and is logged in to both on her phone. The only thing shared is that the actual app was purchased on my account - everything else is under her name/account. Still no multiplayer for her. Any help from the Halfbrick guys? I've seen people in other forums with this same problem, so it's pretty clearly a bug.
I find the rubberbanding pretty frustrating, at least to the degree it is right now. Being in the lead 1-10 points doesn't really seem to matter until the final seconds of the match. Once realizing this, the multiplayer became less interesting for me.
Rubber banding is frustrating and -- no offense -- maybe a little lazy in that their are other solutions. You have how many thousands of players? Band people into skill levels based on won/loss records and match them that way, or have a casual and tournament setting or something. If you dont want to slow matching at all, you could have a system of handicapping where the handicap is displayed before the match. Its a 60 second match, if one cant deal with the fact that you have a 20 point deficit 30 seconds in, just quit and both players can play another. As you say, most people are casuals, so if someone is smoking you, good chance the next person you play will be a casual. My 5 and 8 year olds do not expect to win multiplayer matches and dont even get into that with any games they play. I am not aware of *ANY* games that have multiplayer with rubber-banding -- not a single one. All of that said, extremely mild rubber-banding which is designed to smooth feelings but almost never impact the final result would not be a terrible thing. I have also had several lag-type effects where the other person appears to be slicing fruit at the bottom of the screen.
I noticed the rubberbanding as well. Frankly I'm not sure why its necessary at all. I mean the matches are generally randomly generated so a person has just as much chance of facing someone of lesser skill as they do greater skill - at least once they've gained a basic level of expertise anyway.
Thank god, I was starting to feel a bit alone. I was going to encourage some of my friends to get Fruit Ninja when I saw multiplayer was implemented just for the element of friendly banter and competition it would create but once I experienced the rubber banding I don't think I'll bother because it'll make the fun of competition between us a bit watered down plus I know they'll be just as annoyed as me at the way it works.
i suggested this at the very begiinning and i'll say it again: why can't we have sepereate rooms? if your a casual player you enter a casual room where you face other casual players with catch up. if you enter a more difficult room, there is no catch up and you face players with more skill
Ok here's [more] proof that rubber banding is retarded. I started looking for a game, set my phone down and walked outta the room to do something. I came back and there was a game going, there was 38 secs left and the dude was WAY ahead. I started playing and beat him by at least 8.
Hey ochpok, it sounds like Fruit Ninja is having trouble actually signing you in online. Does a notification pop up one startup that says "Welcome back XXXXX"? Only thing I can suggest is ensuring you have a strong and stable internet connection before launching the app. If you have a new device, kill the game completely so that it isn't just backgrounded (shouldn't make a difference, but you never know). If you don't have any more luck, send me a PM and we will help you out the best we can.
I suppose my wording could have been better, but what I meant is: If I win it isn't by much, or if I lose it isn't by much. My point is, the spread shouldn't be that close when I am clearly doing better.
in my opinion the rubber banding isn't that bad... it all comes down to who has more fruit at the last 8 seconds or so, and then the two fruits for each player thing sets in. If you use your startegy to perfectly time a good run just as this starts you should be able to win every time
