We do have a couple of things in Mega Jump that can help: - You can get an unlimited number of Save Stars, which you can use as a boost at any time, or which can save you if you fall - You can unlock stages you haven't reached yet with Mega Points But maybe there's more we can do there that might be fun to add in?
Yeah, it couldn't be free if it didn't have IAP. But what about loyal early adopters who actually paid for the game, then got IAP shoved in their faces? If it had it from the beginning, I still wouldn't like it as much, but I wouldn't have felt like I was smacked in the face. You turned me off forever with that horrible decision. Like iStunt all over again.
I guess I am on the outside of this argument because I think Mega Jump is the pinacle of well released IAP that I have come across. You do not need to pay a dime to get the gameplay you desire. The only problem I have with IAP is when they place a person on a higher level then those who do not purchase it. For example: Online Game A (Shooter) gives the user a variety of weapons that can be earned in the gameplay Company decides to offer IAP for weapons that are much superior to others and are not attainable in the game except through purchase. These weapons make the multiplayer game have a distinct advantage to those who pay. This is not how you do IAP. If your purchase grants you power over another issue then your gameplay will be based around who can throw in the money. Mega Jump does NOTHING like that and as I said above I consider it one of the pinacle cases of IAP done right. Regarding ads, I am once again going to put my neck out there and say that without ads you would NEVER see a game flourish as it would with simple advertisements. Any major company has money to throw and ads are not needed but when it comes to the pocket market then you are going to have to do something to reach any profit. Without ads Mega Jump/Run would never make it out of the gate let alone make it so the company could have monetary backing for future projects. I guess for me is I see it from both sides. I see it from the gamer perspective of wanting a solid experience but I also see it from the developer side of the argument. I more often fall on the latter as my frame of reference because all in all I would like to think we can agree that these people deserve respect and overall understanding when they make these decisions. There will always be people who feel this "alienates" them and they refuse to take part but that loss is something that can be pushed aside in the long run as protection financially and overall that loyal gamer is going to be the meaning of this whole system. Flame me for this if you want but I think someone needs to interject that we have to look at this from adult perspective though I know there are a lot of young people on here.
To be fair, it's likely that we would have put IAP in even if Mega Jump was paid - many games are going that route to fund continued free updates and more content, as we have done. We chose to make Mega Jump free though, so more people would be able to play it. We're not fans of price changes either, and we've actually kept our pricing very stable after the first few updates when we were trying to figure out the best option, compared to most other apps. I'm impressed that you feel so strongly about pricing though, especially for what was a $1 game that is now permanently free, and it does give us something to think about it terms of how potential players feel about pricing on the app store in general. I'd be interested to hear more opinions from everyone reading this thread about what we can do with Mega Run, from pricing to more fun stuff, like the features, power ups, levels and characters. It's still early days, so now's your chance to get your ideas to us!
Well,I have played Mega Jump,Doodle Jump, and FlyGaGa.any other jump games not mentioned here?oh yes,Ninja Jump,....I think they all automatically jump which is not bad,but in this regard they alll look stiff and rigid....they are like mummies and jump, jump, jump! But FlyGaGa is better than the others, for i think the babe's sound is very cut and his movement is much vivid. Maybe developers can add little actions into the jumper which can make it look better~
just curious, is it implement virtual stick on the game and not relied on accelerator solely? Im playing mega jump on ipad and it gets tired after playing for a while.
Mind if I ask you something, are you guys tempted to eventually incorporate the Tiny Wings style of running game in this game?
Mega Jump is a little hard for me, after I downloaded it and played for about one minute, I gave up. But I like the icons and visuals which look charming, wish Mega Run could be better!
Yes, we want to avoid this absolutely. No one should be at a disadvantage if they can't purchase an item. This is something we are working on in Mega Run - adding in more animation and personality for our characters so that they react to the world around them and to what the player is doing. I think you'll like the results! Mega Run will be tap-based. No duals sticks or tilt, just simple taps for jumping and boosting/dashing. Mega Run will be similar to Tiny Wings in that it will be auto-run, and players will tap to do actions. Aside from that though, the player will jump instead of fall when you tap, and you will be able to perform more actions, like jump, double-jump and dash attacks, which gives more options for ways to play the game, and for fun things to do! Are there certain things about Tiny Wings that you think would work well in Mega Run?
That's too bad! I'd recommend downloading Mega Jump again and giving it a bit of time. It takes a little while to get the hang of the controls but it very quickly becomes second nature, and I think you'd have a lot of fun with it! It's free after all Mega Run will be a little "safer" at the beginning, because you won't always be worried about falling, so it should be more friendly for new players, and we'll gradually increase the difficulty with each new stage.
omg nickfury, your making a new game and you didn't tell me??!!? well holy crap, i have a ton of stuff i want to say right now, my mind is just bursting with ideas. but to save myself and everyone else from the pain of a huge post, how about an early gameplay video or a list of features?
and also, i'd like to add that this reminded me of an idea i had a couple months ago: just came up with an awesome idea. since you can't make any more stages for going higher because it wouldn't make alot of sense after galaxy gore, what if you could go down? this would be like a totally new mode, where you take your action umbrella, and descend into the darkness of the underground. you try to avoid the coins and are given mp based on how far you reach. you can have another whole set of 10 levels for this or just one endless mode. some levels could be underground lava, devils gate, and dirt road. it would be like the game falldown, except you can go anywhere one the screen and steer using the umbrella. what do you think? it could be called mega fall!!
That's a cool idea, but it's probably something we would tackle in a new game We do have plans to add new themes to Mega Jump - you'll have new worlds to explore and new goals to reach, so look out for that! For Mega Run, we are creating the game to have a lot of variety in the levels. The way we are setting it up, we'll be able to keep adding levels in updates so that there will always be something new to play. We don't have a game play video for Mega Run yet - it's in very early development, which also means that we have lots of time to hear your ideas. We'd love to hear what you guys think about what we can add to Mega Run to make it awesome
ok cool, but i really hope theres an endless mode in this game. all of these type of games need an endless mode. your score can be based on your distance traveled, and then the coins you collect are added to your score somehow
I hacked Mega Jump by simply editing a .plist file within the app using Cydia's iFile. In an effort to find a way to avoid buying coins. Fact is that it worked and I had about 9999999 coins. I did not use a hex editor, just the native txt editor from iFile. The devs of this game need to make sure that they avoid using property lists in order to save valuable information, such as coins. Too easy to hack and it takes away profits from the devs. I will not be disclosing how I did it as I was just trying to see if it could be done. It can, so be very cautious devs. I was also able to change the amount of "save stars" (i think this is what they are called) which allowed for a infinite score so long as you set a very high amount of the save stars. As a test I set the save stars equal to 10,000, and just kept pressing the save star button while in a game, after about 10-15 mins later my height was super extreme and I had only used about 150 save stars. Knowing this someone could easily hack the leaderboards, but I kept myself offline as to avoid that issue. For mega run please keep all assest, i.e, coin count "save stars" anything else that requires game currency, within the app itself instead of having the app refer to a property list.
We are aware of this issue, and we'll be making a few changes to make sure that information is more secure for Mega Run, and for Mega Jump via an update. As far as we can see it's not a widespread problem, but if there are some scores online that aren't legitimate then it's not fair on other players, so it's something we're looking into. Mega Run will probably be a kind of hybrid between endless mode and separate stages - keeping track of total distance traveled over all the stages for instance, so you'll feel like you're on a journey. If there are any other ideas like this that you think should be in Mega Run, post them here!
