I first want to say I'm glad there is a discussion regarding Gameloft that has been fairly neutral and appropriate. I first got my iphone in late 2009, since i have purchased every Gameloft game released since. Most of them at their releases, others during sales (I work hard, I deserve my weekly itunes purchases). I am a Gameloft fan. Many games I like, some not so much. I have mixed feelings with the switch to free for games I already have. Part of me says "shame on me". Part of me says "whatever". I am older with 2 jobs and a family and although iOS gaming is my 1 hobby if you will, I like the option of being able to play games for a short burst. So the recent freemium models have worked for me so far. I do hope they can find a healthy balance. I think some games just wont work. You take a game like Eternal Legacy for example, essentially a Final Fantasy clone, its not a game where you should have to wait for health to come back before you can play again. The big names; Modern Combat and NOVA should stay the way they are. I am totally not happy with what they have done with Dungeon Hunter, however I have yet to play so who knows. I totally get how the freemium swing is pushing people away. There will be hits and misses and hopefully, through the unfortunate trial and error, they will get it right. Gameloft is not the only company doing it and eventually someone will come up with a business strategy that will find the happy/medium. Regardless it is here and I don't really have much of a choice accept to adapt. On another unrelated note: HOLY AMOUNT OF GAMES BEING RELEASED
I don't hate them but nor will I ever download any of this new style. I want to pay for a game outright. Having said that I think O&C Online is their jewel in the crown ! It is far more polished and balanced than anything else they've done. I've spent money on that games IAP out of respect for the development team that created the game, and also bacause I was having a ball addicted to the game ! Lol
I like the idea. I think long term they would be best if they provided something extra for those that have already paid for the game. Otherwise they might get a sect of people that are going to wait until it goes free to play.
O&C is a very good experience - some of the decisions they've made regarding the necessity of IAP's to craft the best gear or run the hardest content is a bit obscene, but the overall experience has yet to be met on the mobile platform.
In most cases I agree with that. However, the Gameloft Sports Pack (3 games in 1) was pretty good imo. Maybe it's also because it has the only 3d baseball game (and I mean legit 9 innings game) out there...
Real Tennis, Brain Challenge 2, and Hero of Sparta II so far. Anyone care to guess the last one? I'm gonna go ahead and guess it's likely a shooter.
