Found it on the floor around the corner from the college near my house. Any way I can find out if it is an iPhone 4? or iPhone 4S?

Hold down the home button, if a purple microphone pops up at the bottom of the sreen, it's an iPhone 4S.

I would turn it into the nearest apple store, police station. Apple will be able to contact the owner if its a phone, and the police may be able to as well.

Why's it matter if it's a 4s or not. You're going to return to its owner... right?

Sounds like it could be an iPhone 5 prototype.... you should sell it to Gizmodo ;)

Seriously though, you really should try to return it to it's owner.

As others have said, the right thing to do would be to return it.

Doesn't matter if it's a 4s or not, but if you really are just curious, it should say it on the back of the phone.

I don't trust cops in my City knowing them they'd probably keep the damn thing anyway. I am going to the Apple Store tonight with it to see if they can help.

Haha it actually doesn't. I compared my iphone 4 to my dad's 4s and there's absolutely no difference besides the model no.

Also check the antenna that will slim it down to verizon iphone 4 or iphone 4s:)

He probably will just keep it to himself, that's why he is interested in the model...

I would probably do the same though...

+1, and even if someone did keep it, the owner would be able to track the phone, which would be a hassle anyways.

Well I just got out of the Apple Store on fifth ave in NYC, was told they can't do nothing to find the owner as it's not their responsibility.

Maybe I will put a few flyers up where I found it.

I would say see what sims card it has in it, take it to its store based on the sims card, if they can't do anything put up flyers. If in a couple months nothing turns up/no one claims it, I'd say then you can keep it ;)

Why don't you go to the phone app - go to favorites and call one of them. Tell them you found this phone and do they know who the number belongs to.

That is if the owner didn't wipe the data with the Find My Phone app. If they did and reported it missing or stolen you won't be able to activate it anyway as the serial number will be in the carrier database as being stolen and they can't activate it to a new number.

If that happens... can it still be used as an iPod touch?

Maybe i'm wrong, but i heard that even if they disable it's serial number, you can still use the phone, just not for calling/SMS, ect..

And probably a jailbreak tweak would bypass that as well..

You could always just destroy it in an original way and get on youtube

I think the owner will probably have written it off as gone in honesty, hopefully they have insurance or can afford the loss.

    Hate losing things myself.
