yeah, cool idea, looking forward to something like this. I would second the question from olliewollie, can you post a comparison chart in here?
The paid version will have: 1. Ability to create new threads (free will only allow reply and quote) 2. NO iAds. 3. Over 3 themes. (White, Gray and Black) 4. phpBB bulletin support.
Hahahah... Wait. So you are releasing an app that scrapes forums for thread data, removing all of our formatting and advertising, then adding your own iAds on top of it? You think forum admins are going to put up with that?
What makes you think you can stop it? Right now you can't even stop adblock and click2flash. And using custom CSS scripting, anyone can "change" your formatting and make it look like whatever they want in their own browser. Do you know how many ads I see in TouchArcade right now? None. How is this app going to be any different? It's not like they're running a custom server backend that everything will go through - the app will be on the device itself. You could probably do it if it gives out a special browser ID, but I bet it will just look like any other Mobile Safari client to your web servers. So unless you're willing to completely block all version of mobile web browsers from visiting TouchArcade - which would be pretty stupid considering the name of the website itself - there's just flat-out not much you can about it. Why aren't you crying about Apple not implementing flash causing you to "miss" serving flash ads to iPhones/iPads/iPods users? I guess what I'm trying to say is not to get pissy about this. Most folks here visit TouchArcade via a home PC of some sort, this app will only be for those times when out and about. And if it's just about the money, then take the forum private behind a paywall.
Or when I want to sit down and not have a huge Laptop on my lap. That's the best place to surf the web
I hope I am not banned for saying this, But... Hodapp just got owned >.< Nothing against you Pal, but, iball is right. broaddumb, your names says it all No offence TAers, but when I am browsing the forums from my ipod touch through Safari, I keep touching these ads when I am trying to touch a link to a forum, My fingers are not too big, but it happens
ehhh, come on, don't ban the guy. he was just speaking his mind about something that not many people will go out of their way to achieve. I do agree with hodapp about the irony of placing their ads on your site. No one should make profit on anyone else's hard work and creativity. Seeing as how the app is still in beta, I'm sure they can reconsider the whole iAd thing, especially since a fully featured app will be $4.99 (much pricier than what most people are willing to spend, so shaving a dollar or two won't hurt!). Frankly, I'm surprised no one's complaining that making a new thread costs money.
@drfaygo, PpL like goiMot, imns & a few more are Awesome on making new threads in here, We won't be able to compete them anyway, also using the free version of THIS app won't disable the safari browser from which new thread can be created So, Why complain on that feature?
Hey guys, Sorry for not jumping in earlier on this, but iAds will not be in the paid version. It was my mistake, it should have read "NO iAds". I am going to fix the post right now.
Thanks for correcting it Why'd one pay $5? Are you including more features in the paid verison? How about selling it a lil' more by revealing a lil' more ? (of info., I know what you dirty minds were thinking! )
The main reason to pay $5 are the following: no ads, support for phpBB, ability to use tabs (open many threads at once), ability to search threads and posts, ability to manage your private messages and accounts. We will post a lot more information about bitBulletin on our blog and here soon. Stay tuned...
