Wait a sec, do you mean you can't exit the app to multitask without losing all of your progress if you didn't save right before? I hope I'm misunderstanding what you guys are saying here.
Even the Silent Hill games understood that different people play for different reasons, and allowed players to modify settings to fit their playing style. Granted they had a checkpoint system, but then in Silent Hill if you leave the game in pause and come back after a couple hours the game doesn't shut off and cause you to restart from the last checkpoint. At the very least it needs to save the game state when you exit. It's sad since obviously a lot of work went into this, and in terms of graphics and atmosphere it's top notch, but I think they're going to lose a lot of customers and are going to get a lot of low stars that will cause players to not give this game a chance, when there's a lot of great stuff here. Now if you exit the game and come back after a half hour or so the game is still in IOS memory and you can pick up from where left off, but after a couple hours the game restarts and you have to load from the last checkpoint. As someone who would like more of this and wants the company to be profitable, I hope they change it in a way that suits more player styles and adjusts for mobile gaming experiences. I want to be able to pick this up at work and play for a few minutes and then if I need to set it down. As it is I'm forced to only play when I have a lot of time to play, and that's not often.
Ok so this is what I mean. I made it to the second area Spoiler after the intro movie, the corridor, I think? . But I haven't saved yet, as far as I know. I need to stop playing and I don't want to have to do that whole thing over again when I can play again. So...when will I be able to save? Edit: Found my first save. Phew!
Oh and also an option to disable the voice acting. It's not bad I'm finding it detracts from my personal experience.
That's correct: the game doesn't have a proper suspend/resume function, so you can only reload from a manual save if you need to close the app mid-game, or if it gets shut down automatically in the background by the OS when you open another app (I found opening even a single other app caused the latter to happen). If you need to shut down the game (or switch to another app mid-game), your options are to find a PC in-game and use one of your limited saves first, or just deal with reverting to your last manual save when you return to the game.
Yeah, I can't wait to download this. I'm just at work right now so I will buy this when I get home. I prefer an exploring type of game. So this looks like my type of game. I take my time with games and I don't rush. So the save system to me is just fine. Has any of you guys played penumbra. That was also an exploring type game where you have to immerse yourself to truly enjoy it. Although the King daddy, (Amnesia) was the best horror game for me.
Okay, so I definitely understand the floppy disk save system design choice (Personally, I dislike it, but I can respect the choice), but I don't get this one. The only thing that a one-time quicksave system would do is allow players to stop playing whenever they want, and not force them to waste a floppy disk. Plus, we basically already have a mini quicksave system with iOS multitasking (Although the game can get shut down in the background), so what reason would there be to not just make it an official option? Either way, I already bought the game and I'm sure it's going to be fantastic, I just wanted to throw in my 2ยข.
Yeah, this game is very difficult and personally, Lost Within is a more satisfying game because it doesn't make you want to pull your hair out in frustration.
That is insane... So if your playing, and you grab something to eat or you take a leak, your SOL with this game?? No autosave if your ipad goes in standby is real bad.. Even a Save/resume from that spot for that occasion... Bad design..
Noticed that when I was trying to find this game last night before it was available. Lost Within was the only search result on iPad.
I started working on a guide. So far mostly starting tips: http://www.appunwrapper.com/2015/04/23/forgotten-memories-alternate-realities-walkthrough-guide-hints-tips-and-tricks/
Did you guys ever consider a 1st person view or option? This game seems like it would work with that.
So I'm getting this after being in the fence 'cause the saving system (I just love to save, a lot) but how's the performance on the good 'ol original iPad mini? Solid 30fps?
It's fine if you take a leak as the game is still in IOS memory. It's more after waiting a couple hours and then going to back to it that the game restarts.
Damn, this is an incredible game! It's really pushing the boundaries for triple-A games on iOS! I've never seen a game so visually impressive! It just oozes all the best qualities of a survival horror, and the obvious homage to Silent Hill is strong with this one! This game really should give a swift kick to Konami's arse to port over the Silent Hills games to iOS. But really, with the work that the Psychoz team have done, who needs it really?
Or the possibility of in-game batteries that "top up" the flashlight to one third in dire emergencies. Failing that, maybe reduce the speed at which the battery decays?
Lol. Learn to use the recharge stations. You're going to die and get stuck in the dark a lot as you learn the level layout and where enemies tend to spawn (it's random and adjusts to your playstyle). It's fair but it's not easy. Learn to manage your flashlight use and melee attack speed. Those moaning about the saves, yeah, it's annoying and not conducive to pickup and play. But we all clamor for console quality games on iOS yet whine when we can't play them casually? Give me a break.
