I guess so. Now a documentary needs to be made about it. The Duke Nukem Forever of the App Store has finally risen! The difference being that it doesn't look like it sucks (unlike Duke Nukem Forever... bleck). So that is a good thing
I'm surprised by the review too. All in all, the reviewer didn't like the save system which gives -1.5 stars for an old school design choice. Save system is part of the gameplay, dying is also part of the gameplay. And it's also mentioned in the game description. I've lost all my faith in TA. Seriously...
Really, theres nothing to be concerned or disappointed at. TA reviewers are not like having the final say in games whether they are good or not, its their viewpoint. There are games which they review very positive but to me, i find it horrible, and vice versa. Thats my personal taste. What TA is value at is the community.. Not reviews, i hardly use their or any reviews to judge a game nowadays where community review is the best still..
As a dev not everyone will agree with uou. Sure you need thick skin at times. Many of us here said similar things. Can see what you are trying to do with an old skool save system but if you die you just have to repeat the same steps again and it loses any 'scare' moments when you're doing the same route again Some people will agree with the review. Some won't. Interested to know about the bad spelling though. Heard that mentioned before. Did the beta testers not bother with spelling ?
dont bothered, Spoiler the review doesn't even mentioned the stealth system you can do when faced the shadow girl and yet he said the gameplay was repetitive. also the random act of the mannequin when you entering the same area(not room) many times, the secret items, also what happened when we played on a diiferent route like when you directly go to the third room without entering the mens room. how if you never opened that stock room(with a little girl inside) and just go directly to noah . me myself never put a serious thought at their review since "limbo"(2stars for undoubtedly amazing indie platform game). im sorry but maybe thats just me, a personal thought of one man. i rather jumped in the forum and read how other members put their thought about the game. ps. TA is great and amazing because of its community here. we helped each others out and we shared knowledge and experience of games. not because of their review on the front page. so, never lose hope in TA
If you ignore the arbitrary score the review is fine, points out the quirks, explains the game systems and lets people know what they're in for if they decide to purchase. And of course like all reviews it's subjective, no matter how you hard you try. I can't see anyone reading the review, liking the sound of the game then getting to the end, seeing 3.5 stars and disregarding the game. The interesting part for me is all the comments from people who've purchased and enjoyed the game. The general consensus seems to be yeah the save system is tricky, the torch on normal doesn't allow for deeper exploration, but in spite of that it's a fantastic game. These are the people you made the game for.
the fact is, IMO, its kinda ridiculous when you pointed out the part of the game design (save system) as a down part in your review, it feels like the reviewer never played the original resident evil at all. i agreed with some part of the review but it doesnt do justice about the rating he gave to the game. anyway everyone is entitled of their own opinion, so, im sorry to derailed this thread with review discussion. back to the game now
Don't forget that you also have to consider the game being played on a mobile device because it is not only a game, but a mobile game.
Eh, just because it's on a mobile device doesn't mean you should be able to play it anywhere. If every game on mobile devices needs to be a mobile game then we've already peaked and there's nowhere for mobile gaming to go. There's only so much you can do if the game needs to be playable in 2-3 minute bites.
@E7 so one day, if the original RE is being port to mobile, they have to changed the save system also? or one day the nintendo bring the original mario bros to iOS, they have to add checkpoint every 60 seconds?
What isn't there to understand? People don't like to redo 20 minutes of gameplay because of a lack of proper save system. It isn't 1998 anymore. Those types of save systems were implemented due to technology limitations on consoles. Sure it adds to the tension when you can't save but that isn't true game difficulty. It's just annoying.
