It might also be because I'm playing during the day. But come on...i have the time to play right now. I can't always play specifically when it's dark out. I have no lights on -- just what's coming from the windows. A game needs to be somewhat playable under those conditions.

Edit: I'm tempted to write a "first impressions" review and if my opinion changes, I'll write a full review.

What's the point than? We're supposed to experience the fear and dark atmosphere, but instead of that the game's just washed up. But yeah, "We can see". I don't know, I just probably don't get authors' intentions or something. The strangest thing is, with just a few tweaks this could be a masterpiece! But from what've read here, it's not what the creators wants. I just don't get it.

If you completly close the game, there's no way you can open it and have everything intact. If you however put the game in the background and open others games or applications, theres some chances the OS kill the game (if your new application requires more memory than the one available). This is something we can't do anything about it was introduced in iOS7/8.
However, if you put the game in background and it crashes automatically it's a rare bug (this one will be fixed for the next update). But others issues are normal iOS issues.
As for now, we recommend to not open others applications while playing the game. Again, we do know some of you guys like to play on the go but if you put your game on hold, dont open anything else. Also for the sake of the experience and inmersion, we recommend to play the game in dark areas (at night) with headphones. Forgotten Memories is a game to play in long sessions.
    Regards,

Your excuse this whole time is that you need to pay the game at home so that's a problem. Not only that it IS playable on the go, it's not angry birds or temple run. It's a damn horror game. A legit full fledged horror game. That's not an opinion, it's a bullshit whining.

If you can't play it on mobile, that's something that you need to personally deal with, not a problem with the game.

Well, you're not really supposed to play it with the brightness turned up to full (if you're not doing so to counter ambient light). Now, you can, but that's not the intention; the torch should be considered necessary, and the idea of it going flat and leaving you in the dark is supposed to mean something. I play the game at 1/3 brightness, as that makes the environment appropriately dark when not using the flashlight, while not leaving it completely impossible to see anything or navigate in a worst-case dead-flashlight scenario.

Turning the brightness to full if you don't need to is a pretty cheesy move, and is rather like turning the gamma right up on a PC horror game for the same reason; both ways you're kind of missing the point and reducing the impact of the experience. Now, if it is still impossible to see anything in the game when playing in normal daylight even with the brightness set to full, that's another issue entirely.

First I'd like to say that I love the atmosphere of the game. The graphics are stunning for a mobile game. Tough I have to agree that controls are not smooth at all and I'm not talking about the shaking mechanic. Moving around just feels sluggish and the iPad more often than not is just not responsive enough to register where I want to move/look. For me this makes the game almost unplayable and I brobably gonna
buy it off steam instead so I can play it with a mouse/ keyboard:)

I personally think the controls are fantastic. Havent had the chance to shake the device yet as i have been pretty good at avoiding enemies so far, but im sure my time will come to experience that and give a proper opinion. The movement and camera controls work perfectly for me though.

Oh yeah, I'm reading every little single bit of people's suggestions. Specially when people make reasonable and positive judgments we take them all very seriously.

We are working on a fix, this should not happen. However, if you completly kill the application, all your unsaved progress will get destroyed.
    Cheers,

Much thanks for that very specific response; it addresses my questions nicely. However, with that said, would it be possible at all to take another look at the way the player's progress is handled and protected in the game?

As noted earlier in the thread, Vice City on iOS has the original version's fixed save points, but it also preserves the game state when the app is closed (either manually, or automatically by the OS), and restores it to that exact point when the game is re-opened, and it does this without ruining the integrity of the original design or adding new save options. Is there no chance the same could be done with FM?

The intention of long sessions or not, this incarnation of the game is still on mobile devices that sometimes need to be used for other things, and losing 30 minutes or more of progress simply because you switched over to another app or did something else with your gadget doesn't leave a good impression.

Take the achievement for never saving the game, for example: if somebody has spent hours cautiously making their way through the majority of the game, but then suddenly they have to do something else with their device, is it really fair to them if the OS closes the app in the meantime, causing it to reset and wipe away all the work they put in when they come back to it?

    Guys,
Besides the background switch issue, we are adding more save disks, tweaking combat timings and combat grabs (less shake) and adding more battery time (instead of 10 mins for a full recharge you now have 20 mins). In overall, we are making the game less hardcore but we still recommend to play the game in long sessions at night with headphones for the whole experience.
Any other tweaks you want to see (we'll take them in consideration very seriously)?
The patch will ship tonight, and should be available before Monday.
    Regards,

Yeah, I managed to play a little longer (avoiding the home button at any cost). Fighting the mannequins isn't even very challenging but turning around to face them fast enough can decide between life and death. Turning is sluggish in general and facing stuff to get the exlamation mark can be difficult. I think I will wait for controller support as dying because of sluggish controls is not fun. Don't think it is a problem of FM especially, I think touch screens are just not made for first/third person 3D games.

I think it's a spectacular game already. I personally would want options on whether to play it true hardcore ("Original") or an easier version. But still...it's great the way it is so far.

Make sure you've adjusted the sensitivity in the options menu before giving up. By default, the camera sensitivity in both modes (exploration and combat) is quite low; try turning it to max if you haven't, and see if that makes a difference.

Seriously, I would keep it as is (hardcore mode) and just scrap the floppies and battery life completely for us sissies. Will still be hard and scary enough.
