The developers are obviously aware of that and willing to accept the consequences In short: Difficulty levels. More or less not what the devs want...but we'll see
Enjoy buddy! Ignore all the crap that's being perpetuated on here right now and have fun. Too many people are trying to throw their weight ineffectually around right now, so just sit back, plug the headphones in, turn off the lights and go for it!
Weird. I was thinking of something special received only after/during "hardcore mode", as I said, like an achievement or special costumes/skins, extra content like concept art or something. Or maybe even cheat implementation (unlimited flash light, double health), but you can only unlock them by completing the game on hardcore. SOMETHING!
So what i basically understood from all the comments till now. 1. This a MOBILE game with a concept mainly coming from older PLATFORM games (not MOBILE games.) 2. It uses MOBILE features (touch, shake). 3. It has Gorgeous "nearly" PLATFORM quality graphics. 4. You will never get the option to auto-save. 5. You can not till now exit app for any reason in the world cause you lose proggress. 6. Do not have hopes for even an option even a small button in game to turn on off checkpoints cause that would ruin the game. ( how exactly will it ruin the game?). So basically till now the devs say: No optional checkpoint and autosaves button. Basically they say i do not care to earn 2000$ by adding an optional checkpoints button for a game that i worked so hard on. I skip the optional checkpoints button and i want to earn 1200$. 7. The devs almost do not care about non-hardcore old-school gamers (they said the game was made for certain gamers) 8. The game has a ridiculusly low price. 9. If you say your opinion against the save feature in this thread you are called a casual-not hardcore gamer that does not know about hard core games and should buy another game and stop posting in this thread about autosaves. What is a hardcore gamer exactly? A gamer that struggles to finish a game 10 hours straight and has totaly played 10 games in his/her life? Or a gamer that has played hundrends or thousands of games in his/her life never more than 1 hour straight? I really do not not the definition and i am not trying to be ironic. Correct me if i am wrong to something. Also a question. From my experience hardcore gamers hesitate less to buy such a beautiful game even at a higher price. Truth accepted i believe by most in here is that this game worths much much more. So by the time this was not meant to be sold to the masses why not put the price up? 10$? Hardcore gamers will surely buy it. Apart from that this is an amazing game IMO do not sell it at this low price.
6 plus is still a beast for the next 2 years. something is coming up on the next update still a secret though. btw, MFi support is confirmed for the next update(you should try using controller if you have one). totally fair comment and i hope you enjoy the game sir
Well i'm ok with the saving system even i am 100% positive for a quick save option when you close the app (or closing by itself of limited RAM when in background) just for not losing your current progress due to the nature of the platform. But the battles are playing with my nerves. In the first fights i thought that i had a wrong pace of hitting and i was right. I found a proper pace of hitting and i was able to put down the first enemy even without lose a single point of life... I'll put some spoilers to speak for the enemies without spoil the nature of them for those who haven't start the game yet: Spoiler Now that i have find the proper pace as i told before (the first runs were disasters )i am able to kill the first mannequin easily enough even it is a hard enemy (for a first one)... I continue and kill the phantom right outside the doc's office (easily enough again) but the little dolls inside pull me down in secs and i couldn't even change my weapon when i was hitting by them (the inventory menu keep closing before i manage to grab the pistol as the dolls hitting me)... On the next run i couldn't even kill the phantom... Same pace and tactics on combat but now he grabs me all the time till i falling dead. My problem is that i feel it isn't so much of my side the matter but from what the game decides to do... I don't know... it feels just like bad mechanics and not just a well-balanced but HARD battle. Dead Space had also hard battles with limited resources but the feeling was that it's on your hand to find the perfect spots and pace on enemy to hit him and pull him down... And this ''shake your device'' mechanic... what the hell... Not only it seems like it is working when it wants to works despite how hard or not you are shaking your device but why on hell exists in an OLD SCHOOL survival game with ALL the old school mechanics in it...? It's like a fly on the milk (the only modern adaptation of what an i-device can do when everything else it suppose to be ''the old good days'' of gaming). Anyway as i told on my first post in this thread i really like the game and despite some faults is one of the best horror gems (and not only) you can find on appstore... and my opinion is that the people are moaning for the faults because when you have on your hands such a really good game you are dreaming only for the perfect
Look i hear what you are saying..... But why would you not take time to play this amazing game away from the distractions of the daily norm? Fine u might get an emergency call, but hopefully thats rare, it just seems like really minor gripes you are bringing up. I get passionate about this because i dont think you understand the impact our views, effect games in the ios world.... If you want more premium, if you want bigger console games, if you want real immersion to escape the bullshit in this world time to time.... Then please..... Buy this game, and any other quality premium. Its more about sending a message that ios is the platfirm to start a revolution with gaming, because lets face it we have the masses with apple products, yes there maybe more freemium, but i know for a fact we can change the face of the top charts if more devs see how much attention and love we give these premium games, we need to open the floodgates so we can get what most if us are really after.....console gaming on the go. Please support.....
The shake system was decided on because tapping on the screen to escape was 10 times harder to do. My advice in a fight is to alway be backing away while striking, that way if you miss you'll be far enough away to avoid their strike also keep adjusting yourself if you're up against two or more enemies since they may start to spread out and not remain in the same spot you were aiming
I was waiting for this game since 2009 (from the date of announcement). I bought the game (only 4.99$,great price!).Now i downloading,my impression i write later
Well... Was playing for about 30 minutes of exploring and a little bit of fighting, even found the second save point but decided not to save yet as i passed a couple corridors i need to check before i would save, and my son woke up. So naturally, i locked the ipad and played with the baby a bit. While playing with the baby i received an email about work, so i swiped to open the email from the lockscreen. Then i realized the game was running and checked to see if i was still in the same screen, but to my disappointment, the game restarted. 30 friggin minutes lost. Should i blame my son for waking up or my work for receiving an email? Should i blame myself for forgetting that when i play this game i should forget that i have a son or work? Just a little frustrated that had to happen as i was really into the game already.
Maybe I just suck at this game, but I just wasted 20 minutes running around, using up my flashlight (yes, I shut it when there's enough light to see), barely able to see anything. Didn't come across a single charging station and eventually my flashlight died and I had to quit, losing all the progress. I honestly don't know if I'm going to bother again. If anything, I might give it another try on my iPad for (hopefully) better visibilty. I was playing on my iPhone so I could record. Felt like a blind bat.
I have to agree about the shake system though. On an iPhone it might work but on an iPad ? Dear God please no. I encountered the black ghost thingy twice and it kept latch onto me, so I shaked and shaked and shaked my iPad in the middle of the night with my earplug on like a mad man yet still and up dying. Tato please change that and make it touch base instead. I really don't want to lose my grip while I shake off that damn ghost and end up throwing my iPad against the wall. Oh and I have no problem with the limited save system, however if you plan to introduce a difficulty system, maybe increase the amount of floppy disks and save point ?
Exact-Psience and AppUnwrapper, I've got the same experience, unfortunatelly I ain't find it funny, challenging or hardcore to replay the same location for half an hour multiple times. There's no atmosphere the second time, not to mention third or more.. It's not hardcore, it's just a bad design. Hardcore games back in the days allowed you to save wherever and whenever you wanted, I remember playing Doom or Quake and saving during the boss fights. But even games with checkpoints, it's pretty much standard to autosave before boss fights or after cutscenes. I just don't get it in this case. It has nothing to do with atmosphere.. You can experience fear even with autosave. Not to mention how frustrating is to lose the fight not because of your mistake (which I'd understand), but because of odd and unresponsive controls. And than going back and spend another half an hour to get to the same point and fail again. I didn't have expectations, I wrote that couple of pages back, it's not even my genre, so I tried and I'm done. It's just not for me even though I have a really hard time to figure out who exactly is the target group. Because sooner or later every single person has to experience such frustration. Did anyone even finished the game already?
I don't usually do this, but I'm considering writing my review based on my short time with it because I don't see myself finishing it. I'll give it another go tonight on my iPad. Maybe turn up the brightness, too, as someone suggested. But I just don't understand the point of a puzzle/exploration game in which you can't see where you're going. I haven't even been close to dying yet. I met one enemy and killed it fairly easily. I just can't see a d*** thing.
These are prime examples of the reason why people are asking for the standard one-time suspend-resume function to be implemented. While a limited manual save system is absolutely fine in itself, it is just not acceptable for a game on a mobile device to erase all progress on a whim if the player wants or needs to do something else with their device, and is unable to save their game first (or unwilling, if they're trying for the achievement for not saving the game). For all their technological advances, varied uses, and ever-increasing role as gaming machines, iPhones and iPads still aren't consoles or dedicated gaming handhelds, and they can't be treated as if they were.
If it helps, I've been playing the game on an iPad with the brightness set to 1/3, and it has been pretty easy to see with the flashlight on, and still possible (if more difficult) with it off. With the brightness set to full, the flashlight isn't even necessary.
