What game are you talking about Lost Within? Are you saying Apple released or created Lost Within? I thought Amazon Game Studios made Lost Within at least that's what the App Store said on it last time I looked at it.
Its funny as i was reading the odd comment from testers saying how scary it was and i thought yeah yeah yeah. Then last night playing it with headphones on i was jumping tons ! The sound effects as you say are great. Again the save issue though. The first time i messed up as i got to the computer and then didnt properly save it with the disc (hey it was the first time). If it auto saved i could have just carried on. Instead i had to start the game again and it was a case of simply running to the same point to try again as i knew what was going to happen/or not happen (dont want to give anything away) so the suspense wasnt there the second time.
Actually this in on two levels. The one is the bug (which I must admit only appears on my iPad 3 with my iPhone 5 doing fine) and the save system itself (making the game pretty taxing). The one will hopefully be fixed soon, but it won't change the nature of the game. Not sure if anybody would say they can play this on the bus or on the tram, I'd say you can't. I can play it in a hotel (which I will probably do on my next vacation) but the definition of it being a mobile game doesn't fit IMO. Problem (and nature of the game) is I can't see shit in daylight. It is barely OK with the flashlight, but needing to save your flashlight battery on dimly lit areas to have energy for completely dark ones makes the game only really playable in the dark (which is recommended).
The problem is if i get to say 80% of the first 'section' without reaching a save point. If i then have to close the app down (i get to work, i go to bed, i have to go out) and all that progress is saved, then all i have to do is 'rush' to get to that point again when i start the game up. So theres no suspense etc as i know whats happening and i want to get to that point where i was before i had to go out/do something etc. So the whole 'you can only save at certain points' is a bit useless as if you cant save it you just rush to get to that point knowing what surprises are there anyway.
I'm one of The Tester,If I consider Myself an Harcore Gamer? Yes,I start play 26 years ago with Commodore,Amiga, and all PS Platform, there wasn't easy Games..again,I tested game, but not inclined to love the game under all circumstances,at last,it's the exact contrary,if I don't like a game, simple I say so..it's cause this it's a True Masterpiece, and I Think iOS Need game like FM,not so Called Promised "Survival Horror Games"that instead you play Rambo Style with Plasma rifle that from Scratch..that are instead Action Oriented Games..last question, the Spoiler:it's been on purpose to introduce the Player to The First enemy, for Take in Mind that Other can Attack you..
Doesn't it say in the App Store description "challenging gameplay, limited save points" doesn't anybody read the description before they buy stuff. I bought the game for exactly what it is after reading the description and fully understand the saving concept because Resident Evil 1 was one of my all time favorite games. I think Tato created a great experience here and want to congratulate him for what he has created exactly as it is and now is my favorite iOS game to date, keep up the good work Tato. Just playing this you can see all the hard work he poured into it.
I've already finished 4 large popcorn boxes, and i think i will need more if i keep reading this thread.
No popcorn for me. Hands are busy with double facepalming Can't wait till we get to the part about actual gameplay and replayability. Maybe TA needs a new small section for gameplay commentary hidden somewhere
Why do you think iOS needs such games? It is IMHO a game you can only play at home with enough time and darkness to appreciate it. And at exactly that time I could play it on PS4 or PC (with even better graphics). The problem is, it is a technical masterpiece for the iOS platform, not so much for a PC game. Being developed with PC as target the development would probably have been 2 years shorter. Now we get a game that brings "PC quality AAA production values" to a mobile platform, but is not meant to be played as a mobile game. When asking for changes to make it mobile friendly the answer is "That way the game could not be appreciated the way we want it to be played."
They stated earlier that it will be released for other platforms so if you want to play it on ps4 or whatever then just wait for that release to come out. How many games support controllers and how many people play iOS games with a physical controller I hear people are using them to play so many games especially ones like this that isn't meant to be played in short bursts, you have to sit down and take time to do that or do people really walk around or go to work with controllers? This games environment is so engrossing it would in my opinion ruin the experience to play this in short bursts if you really want to enjoy and experience this the way that I think the dev intended it to be played then longer play sessions will make the experience shine.
Blimey, 33 pages and most of them about the save I don't own the game so I don't really get a opinion, but really it looks to me like one of those uber fancy restaurants where you eat a set menu from the chef whether you like what he serves or not, because he is who he is... I never understood why Dark Souls for example never had a pause, I get that devs strive for immersion and as it is their product they can if they choose add these functions that divide the crowd.. I would like to see a option where you have 2 ways to play, with with easy saves or not, and put a disclaimer on the product page saying that they feel the game is broken in a immersion sense by playing the easy save route that way you get a choice
I bought it on iOS already and can play it on iPad, no problem. With some tweaks I think it will probbably be an "entertaining" experience. That is however, completely missing my point. You more or less admit it. It is a great game but a bad mobile game (sorry for boiling it down to this simple statement). So nobody shouldn't be surprised if many people have a problem with the game. Tato is "only" marketing as a mobile game, which might be seen as false marketing just a strange contradivtion. But others here in the forums defend the game to a point where they are calling people not enjoying it stupid or just not hardcore enough. That in itself is something stupid to do as the platform it is released on is considered especially non hardcore. Sure, the game puts out a warning not to buy if you are not hardcore, but truth to be told it should be a warning not to buy the game if you want to play on the go.
@oldsnake and rip, please don't derailed the thread into something that will dismissed the actual purpose we are here now after 6 years of waiting by answering those who doesn't like how the game is designed(save system), maybe, just maybe (im not here to accused someone), they never experience silent hill 1 or RE 1 before, this is my opinion. we as a beta tester better focus on helping those who really know what they getting into, and fully realise what this amazing piece of work are offering. every other explanation about save system are clearly explained by tato and its so obvious for everyone to see. any gameplay question or other bugs, can be directly asked to me. ill be gladly to help you guys
Your missing my point it's a great mobile game and great experience for exactly what it is not everyone plays games in short burst and not every game on mobile is meant to be played in short bursts. It's one thing to ask for the possibility of an adjustment to fix this but everyone here is doing nothing but complaining.
I am not even talking about any bursts. I tried to play this on my tram ride (with a sure uninterrupted playtime of 45mins, which should be fine) but I couldn't as I wasn't able to see shit. I was able to somehow get around, but didn't even know why I was killed after about half an hour. I can only imagine the discussion about dev platform back in 2009: "Let's make a game that is dark an eerie and really hardcore. A game that can best be enjoyed in a dark room in sessions of 1-2 hours minimum". "Great, I believe the best platform would be iOS, we are limited on memory and performance, but all the people buy their phones to play on them at home".
Random death? Did a face pop up and then kill you it was stated earlier this is the pirated version hope you supported Tato with the legit one and not the other also game is recommended for for a dark area with headphones as some environments are dark I don't see how you could enjoy playing it on the train or during the daytime outside, underground might be a little different as its darker idk. This thread is also so derailed I kinda hope the mods delete it, cause I know at this point I'm going to unsubscribe from it to avoid being dragged further in by reading these comments and just enjoy playing this great game.
Hmmm, you're interpretation and understanding of 30 pages of moaning about the same thing from the same people is very different to mine. So I'll make a deal with ya, you're now on my ignore list so I will neither see nor read any of you're posts going forward and will not offend you're sensibilities by applying my "false logic" in replying to them. You can now do the same with me and that way you won't feel any empathy spikes and the thread can move on from the single topic point you and some others have made every effort to flog to death over the last 30 pages. And there we go, problem sorted, enjoy.
Dang, so much drama is going on here, heh. Well, i'm still in the beginning of the game messing around with the graphics settings on my iP5. It's definitely not running with full effects @30fps as it was mentioned several times but I try to get the best out of it. However, it still looks gorgeous for what my hardware is offering so hands down on that and the great optimisation. Not sure if I'll dive into it that much cuz I would prefer to play it on my PS4 instead personally. Hope they will port it to consoles. I would buy it in a heartbeat even if I already did with the ios version.
Yes, people read the description, but it seems like you didn't read the thread. For about the fiftieth time, the main issue people have had here isn't with the limited manual save system, which is a perfectly acceptable design decision for this game and doesn't need to be changed, it's with the fact that the app itself currently has a high chance of restarting and erasing all your session progress if you need to switch away or close the game to do something else, which on a mobile device is unacceptable and entirely avoidable. All people are asking for in that regard is that the app temporarily preserve your progress only if it is shut down or crashes (as other "console quality" iOS games do), and restore it to that exact point when the game restarts; this has been a standard and expected quality of life feature of apps on mobile devices for a long time now. Almost nobody here has been asking for the actual gameplay to be changed to include reloadable checkpoints or the ability to save anywhere, despite the bizarre insistence of some. Even if I haven't manually saved my work in an iOS word processing app, I still don't expect it to arbitrarily delete all my writing if I switch away from it to use another app, and I don't expect an iOS game to erase all my session progress if I do the same. The game itself is great even on relatively lower-end devices, and certainly worth the asking price, but the current technical implementation is by no means perfect.
