Wow, really? That's what you're going with? Wow. "Slight or remotely critical observation", nearly 30 pages of them. Really?? Oh so it's okay to make nearly 30 pages of "slight or remotely cynical observations" but it's not okay for me to address them or counter them or express an opinion on them? Really?? But it is of course okay for you and others to drag moans out over nearly 30 pages on a topic that has been brought up, addressed and answered repeatedly and in detail by the developer themselves many, many pages ago. But of course, you know better with all you're design work, knowledge and game development experience. Of course. Hmm, of course, that makes a whole lot of sense and is perfectly logical. Of course. Wow. Meeting adjourned.
Agreed 100%. The lack of a quick-save is my one and only gripe right now. I played for a while earlier today and this really is a fantastic game, definitely worth way more than $5. Should we tell him this isn't an episode of Judge Judy or should we let him figure it out on his own?
I know there are tons of comments on this. Casual gamers, hardcore gamers etc etc. i bought the game. It looks amazing. But enen hardcore gamers sometimes have to stop playing. Especially on mobile devices. The save system is bad. Just my opinion. But again, I can give my opinion because i DID buy the game. A work of art it is indeed. But with this save system, I am sorry but its not gonna get a good review from me. Lots of gamers (even hardcore gamers) have issues that might cause them to HAVE to stop playing. Mine for example is my 2 year old. And it sucks that people will just LOSE their progress if they cant find a floppy disc and PC. Im gonna hold off on my app store review in hopes that the devs make SOME sort of adjustment. But for a premium game, even at a great price like $5, we should at least be able to save.
An unbiased opinion. iPhone 5S user here. Apart from several typos here and there and the voice acting being unconvincing at times I would consider this a masterpiece. It contains everything you'd expect from AAA horror game, but first of all - the sound design which is done masterfully. The soundtrack. Honestly, I wasn't expecting it to be THAT good. The graphics are some of the best you'd find on the AppStore. Not sure about animations being MoCapped but they're quite impressive for a mobile platform to say the least. All of the above (given you're using headphones and playing in the dark) makes for a great, immersive horror experience. The game takes some of the best aspects from horror classics like Resident Evil 1 to Condemned and Silent Hill. Whenever you stumble upon an item or a point of interest you get to read about it while the game pauses itself (together with the sound). It may feel off putting and immersion breaking to freshmen gamers, but to anyone familiar with the classics mentioned above this is a nice touch. Wanna save? Find a floppy disk and then carry it all the way to a nearest computer. Finding the whole doll thing freaky after Condemned? Here's more of it! All the spooky sections are very well crafted, they appear when least expected. I'd like to mention the rich customization options. Nearly everything related to graphics can be customized, from vignette and noise fx, to motion blur and glow. Hell, there's even a camera distance slider which is just awesome. Sure mothing is perfect. The controls are whacky and lack any customization, while not in aim mode the direction protagonist as well as the flashlight is pointed at is not pinned to camera direction. (In The Last of Us the flashlight is always pointed down the crosshair even when protagonist himself is facing the camera, which could feel unnatural but who cares as long as YOUR OWN field of view is always lit up.) The combat is clumsy but not in a good way. It's rather stiff and never feels natural. Yet, I'm not sure if this was intended, but the combat could definitely use some further development. About the multitasking.. Don't know what the fuzz is all about, but I switched to Vainglory halfway through the section where you find the first floppy disk and a working computer. I played one match, then switched back to Forgotten Memories. To my great surprise, the didn't restart itself, I continued playing right from where I left off.
Wait...what? You mean this isn't? But I was about to bring up how my neighbor stole my record collection, so I retaliated by having my dog deficate on his lawn!
After a few hours of playtime, here are my impressions: +Beautiful. Absolutely stunning to look at and experience. Great lighting. Spooky atmosphere. Great animation. The presentation is awesome! +Good, intuitive use of touch screen controls; i love tapping on the screen when exclamation marks appear. I think it's an intelligent implementation. +The sound design is aces, with terrific footfalls, wailing, screaming, etc. And i'm in love with the score. Very good stuff, indeed. -With that being said, I have to wonder if any of the beta testers are native English speakers, because the written stuff is hit and miss, with some of it making absolutely zero sense. Maybe I haven't made it far enough and perhaps the gibberish will be explained? -Who thought it was a good idea to add shake-to-escape function to this? It simply does not work well and has already led to my demise multiple times. +I really appreciate the hardcode nature of the game, means it'll last me quite a while. Wouldn't mind the save system one bit if... -No checkpoints. Really? Not even after big story moments? Really? Did no beta tester raise a concern? With all that being said, I really want to love this game and play it non-stop. However, the lack of checkpoints, no way to resume play after having quit out of the app, and awkward control mechanics really drag my experience down. Do i still recommend the project? Yes, but with some hesitation, until the kinks are ironed out. And i have to express some doubt that that will happen anytime in the near future. Lastly, i want to express my appreciation to Tato for sticking to his creative guns. Says a lot. But i believe a bit more consideration should've been given in respect to save and check points.
Judge Judy holds court, not meetings, hence why the Judge part before Judy. I'll let ya figure out the difference on your own. Try a bit better next time.
No,but without enter into details, just beat the game and then start a new game..there more than a simple New Game Plus..
Can't stop playing this one. Though i've voiced my complaints, I love playing this. And, um, the game shines in the dark. What is that? Irony?
You're not "countering" anything though, you're just automatically disagreeing with people and outright abusing the ones pointing out that the game unceremoniously dumping your entire progress if you choose to use your mobile device for another purpose mid-game is a pretty glaring design flaw not shared by other "console-quality" games, and you're coming up with the most tangled leaps of logic to justify a poor and entirely counter-intuitive design decision. Ensuring that game data doesn't accidentally get lost (especially in a game deliberately based around long times between manually-triggered limited saves) is not a matter of creative integrity, it's a matter of professionalism, common sense and respect for your players, and one that doesn't have to have any impact whatsoever on the gameplay itself. To be very clear, if the FM developers did add the expected simple suspend/resume safety net (as Rockstar did), it wouldn't have any impact whatsoever on the game itself, as you can't use such a system to cheat, cheese, or skip content. You seem to be under the impression that adding this standard feature would also mean including reloadable autosaves, checkpoints, and/or a save-anywhere function. That's simply not the case: there would be no difference whatsoever between the gameplay then and now, other than the behind-the-scenes removal of the chance of losing all progress because of a game bug or OS function. There is literally no reason to argue against the inclusion of such a feature. None at all. Honestly, you need to stop taking the suggestion as a personal affront. Sure, app-switching is highly unlikely to be an issue if/when the game arrives on consoles, but right now? It's on iOS, a mobile platform, and no amount of handwaving can dismiss the fact that the game as it stands simply hasn't been designed to meet the expected standards of that platform, something that is reinforced every time the game restarts and erases all progress because somebody dared to open another game or answer their phone. Being supportive of a game is fine, but right now your constant knee-jerk outlashes and personal attacks make you probably the least productive person in this thread. It seems to have flown right by you that pretty much every single person in this thread has freely stated how great the game is overall, and that at most there are only a couple of minor things that bother them; the general feedback is almost unanimously positive. Your disproportionate response has been to overlook this and repeatedly tell anybody with any criticism that this is clearly not the game for them, that they should move on, or some other such overreaction. Such responses are neither warranted nor helpful, especially as you're vehemently arguing against a standard feature that by definition could only be a 100% positive addition.
IN THE CURRENT FORM I find the game to be unplayable/unenjoyable. I am under the impression the beta testers were taken from a group of players who - sure - are hardcore gamers but also were inclined to love the game under all circumstances. Nothing wrong with the game itself (on a technical/production level), beside it being extremely hard, but playing the not even challening early parts over and over again is just no fun for me. I had the same problem with the Souls games, but at least there was progress (experience, shortcuts). Spoiler Watching the first mannequin come to life for the 3rd time destroys the immersion and the meant to be scary moment/enemy just becomes something ordinary pretty quickly
I do have to say that I got slightly annoyed with all the negative posts and countering last night as I picked this up for three pounds and it is fantatstic stuff - but then along came appletini's two posts which really do sum it all up. Agree with the sentiment and content of both recent posts. Great game though but the bickering gets tedious on what is a great game with one obvious flaw for a game on mobile devices.
Love the game? Hate the game? One thing's for sure. It doesn't look like the Forgotten Memories drama will ever end. XD
Well played it last night, stupidly messed up saving the game on the first disc point so i had to start again. Playing it late at night with the headphones on really is cool. Love the animations and just the general spookiness of the whole game, very creepy Finally saved my progress so i'll play later. Had a funny moment, i'm playing the game and in comes my daughter walking slowly (shes 4) as she couldnt sleep at about 1am. Theres me playing the game and in the corner of my eye a small kid comes into the room, freaked me out ! (Had to leave my phone for 10 mins till she went to bed and then i could carry on as i was worried i hadnt saved my progress !)
Don't think it is that easy. I am sure this will become a game I will like soon. But if I hadn't followed it for such a long time, I would never touch it again after the first hour I had with it. I might have even asked Apple for a refund.
Blimey, I just came here to give my opinion after a short play through and noticed that this thread has completely erupted! I've got a little bit giddy playing this game because it has took me back to the first time I played Silent Hill 2. The atmosphere is really evocative of SH2 while still providing a different experience on a handheld device. I'm scared to mention the save game system but here's my opinion: I don't mind it, it adds to atmosphere of the game for me but I can understand why it turns others off. If I want a game that I can play in shorter burst, then there are plenty at my disposal whereas I will reserve Forgotten Memories for times when a can dedicate my attention for longer spells. Massive thumbs up on the sound design as well! One thing that I'm not a massive fan of is (and someone else mentioned this) the shaking to escape the shadow things. The game didn't seem to respond to my frantic shakings but I've only experienced this situation once so far. Anyway, these are my first impressions and I'm looking forward to future sessions. Stinks
I havent come across the shaking yet but yeah that wouldnt be something i like. I mean we're saying play the game at night etc, now i have to shake the device later as well ? So my wifes half sleep, she sees a glare from my phone as i'm still using it late on at night and next moment the beds shaking a bit as my wrist is shaking something ? Yeah that'll go down well ! I would say the same about any game, if i had say a platformer or RPG and theres a bit i had to suddenly shake my phone i wouldnt be keen on that. Again that seems a strange design decision
Totally agree with the shaky things with the shadow dude Got killed before I could save already got 3 floppies Will play again # Marvelous you guys nail the atmosphere also the sound effect is scary as hell
