Yeah, the shake to escape thing is poorly designed. Also, the developer's reticence to including the option for a different kind of save system is odd considering it would open the game up to a larger audience, which means more money for them. Game development is a business, after all.
I'd love to buy this one, but the hardcore limited save mechanic is a deal breaker. I've got a family and limited playtime, so it just won't work. That's too bad, I wanted to support an excellent premium game like this.
In their defense they ARE going for the hardcore gaming crowd and what's more hardcore then a resident evil 1 save system? I do think that (if there isn't, I'm still confused on it) there should be a quick save function (quit the game, jump right back into where you were but of course it's not an actual load able save, you just use it if you get busy) but it seems pretty cool. I'll try the game Tommorow probably.
Even reviews are ripping the save system's lack of adaptation to a mobile platform: http://www.appspy.com/review/9874/forgotten-memories-alternate-realities
Sure, Game development is a business, we could have added different game mechanics too, make the game more casual, add IAPs, sell weapons and items or make it hard to finish and add some in-game fake money system and make you pay to play but then you'll be complaining about all that garbage stuff that is pouting the AppStore. If we got approached by Apple, it was because they clearly told us, they need more games like Forgotten Memories. So far, we've been featured over 110 countries in the Home page and more than 600 times as best new game in less that 24 hours (since this morning). I think we are kinda reaching our target goal and most of people so far are linking the game a lot. But again, you are free to dislike our saving system, after all we cannot please everyone. That's fine, I have no problem with that. PS: Did you actually bought the game? Did you tried? Regards,
It's the exact same review as the pocketgamer one which you or somebody else already mentioned earlier in the thread, so nothing new there. Same reviewer, same review, same media company. They still gave it a 4/5 Good and a 7/10 Bronze rating on each sites rating system, despite it being the exact same review/reviewer, so I'm not quite if that quite qualifies as "ripping" the game. Most would actually be very happy with those ratings. Well most iOS games anyway.
Seems bizarre that Apple, which prides itself on being family-friendly, would ask for a horror game. Something like Leo's Fortune seems more their style in that it too doesn't have IAP but is something all ages can enjoy. Also, it's kind of hilarious how defensive some people are getting about this game. The developer is kind of turning people off it, as someone else mentioned about how this thread is full of shills for the game and for that reason, the person wouldn't get it.
Not bizarre at all. It's amazing how much nitpicking you're doing now. If Apple wants to promote the platform as a gaming platform, they need serious games to do it. If they want to promote the platform as a premium platform, they need premium no iap games to do that. I would of thought that would of been very obvious. If they want to promote the family friendly element they have thousands of other games for that. If they want to promote the casual throwaway element, they've hundreds of thousands to choose from for that. If they want to promote something unique that caters for those wanting something a bit more, they've very little to choose from other than ports and that's not exactly promoting their own platform as a viable primary development one for serious games now is it. It's all about choice Harry. And offering different options, experiences and variety for different people and different tastes. You have the choice and option not to play this game and go back to that other casual one that doesn't even allow you control the character in reality. Or you can try something different and stop moaning, it's really up to you.
So... There will be, or at least the plan, is for this to be a trilogy/3 episodes with this being the first, the 2nd well into devolopment and the third still fairly early on?
What casual game are you talking about? If it's Lost Within, you're wrong since there is a joystick option for direct control of your character. Also, that's hardly what anyone sensible would consider a casual game. Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Candy Crush, etc. are casual games. Its story is more twisted than what FM offers. And it's selling better too. If Apple really approached them, why is Apple letting them release it on other platforms like their direct competition, Android? That would be like Nintendo putting Mario on XBox.
Some people are being defensive because others are being outright disrespective A-holes when the devs are sitting here reading comments that are cowardly being indirectly aimed at them! Bitching and moaning does not get your way and neither does making wild assumptions about the majority of gamers, like they're some kind of "voice of the people". Can nobody really just stop, sit back and admire the amount of actual work that went into the game?? The save system is fine as it is because this is not a casual, play-during-commute kind of game. It's an intense experience that requires all of your time and attention. With that in mind, the saves are exactly as they are meant to be. Learn to enjoy the experience for what it is, or don't. But whatever you do, don't be a discourteous ass-hat. This goes for everybody.
So what if it is? It's obviously an easier game and appeals to the casual mass audience more, so what? It's out a lot longer as well. Does that matter? Do I care? Lost within is an excellent game but it's not this one. Do I care about that even? No I don't. I simply appreciate the option, the choice offered and don't go around the place moaning all the time when a game isn't exactly what I want or just exactly like any other game in the platform. I like casual as much as the next guy but I also like a bit of variety and something a bit more every now and again. Choice, options, variety. I like all those things and feel no urge to moan about them or try and get a developer to change their vision or dilute it by making a casual piece of crap riddled with iap. You're stance on the save system is now perfectly clear, perfectly. This is not the game for you. Move on. We're done. Meeting adjourned.
Lost Within was released last week, we got released this morning. Now, look for Forgotten Memories on the Store, you'll find Lost Within too, ask yourself why they added our game into their search tag. I have no problem with Lost Within, I even bought it today but stop comparing oranges with apples, both games are very very different. I'm going to ask gently to stop moaning about the game. If you don't like it that's fine you can play something else. If you ever bought the game and you felt ripped off, fine, I'll be happy to refund you twice the price you've paid. Cheers,
Yeah, I obviously bought it this morning. I don't do pirating because that's stealing and not exactly safe either.
Oh, stop being ridiculous and lashing out with illogical attacks just because somebody has the audacity not to be unwaveringly positive about a game you happen to like. You're not even really addressing anything I'm actually saying; it's like you're just running an automated response script triggered by keywords related to saving. Assuming a game will meet the expected standards for the platform on which it appears has absolutely nothing at all to do with "handholding"; many, many other iOS developers (including Rockstar, as noted earlier) have demonstrated they're quite capable of preventing players from accidentally losing their progress without impacting the integrity of the gameplay one iota. In this case you're just being blindly and entirely unnecessarily rabid, and attempting to defend an objective design flaw that's entirely indefensible. It really is that simple. Once more, the game is actually pretty great overall, and the manual save feature is absolutely fine, but losing all your progress because you choose (or need) to do something else on your mobile device mid-game is not. "Console quality" here is a red herring as well game quality aside, mobile devices are still mobile devices, not consoles, and they serve a different purpose. People rightly expect to be able to switch between apps freely on a mobile device without losing all their work or game progress, and they're absolutely right not to accept excuses about that. If the developer addresses random background crashes, but the game still restarts and erases all progress made if a player opens another app, or makes or answers a phone call mid-game, that's not a fix at all, and on a mobile device it remains objectively poor design that flies in the face of all the obvious hard work spent on the other aspects of the game. PC games that crash, lock up or otherwise shut themselves down when you alt-tab out of them to open or work on something else aren't considered "hardcore experiences" for "real gamers" either, they're just accurately recognised as just being buggy and in need of fixing, just as this is. In the meantime, the developer is quite capable of addressing criticism and concerns themselves if they feel so inclined; they certainly don't need you attacking and abusing other posters over every single perceived slight or remotely critical observation. Yeesh, it's not even your game; you don't need to be so emotionally invested in it. Yes, and Rockstar took the feedback they received from their first attempt and implemented the suspend/resume function in their later games. Not surprisingly, it didn't ruin or harm those games in any way, and in fact only made the experience better, as players were no longer in danger of losing their progress solely because they happened to be playing on a mobile device. It's just a bit of a pity that the developer of FM doesn't have the same regard for his own customers.
Good to hear, so I will just postpone playing the game until it is fixed. It is not uncommon I start playing iOS games seriously only after 2nd or 3rd patch.
