Kids would be surprised how long it takes to develop a game with a big team and a big budget.... 5 years would be standard. But you heard it people, don't taunt spoiled people, or you'll have a buttload of tantrums. Because it's ok to be demanding about things you don't have the right to demand, brilliant.
5 years was never standard... Although with the increasing quality of iOS games, and the anticipation, it just might be worth the wait.
I don't think anybody is demanding anything it's just that an update would be good for everyone. The thread has been 'omg can't wait' for a long time some new footage would be good for everyone.I don't doubt their talent or anything I just wanna know close we are since it's been in beta for some time now.
The whole thing has been a bit of a PR nightmare. I suppose we're both to blame (the devs and community), one being so impatient for new info and the other too eager to please. I feel like there has been a lot of mis-info even still and it's better to say nothing than come back and say actually it has only just been submitted now, or we are still working on X feature/polish - imagine the meltdown/rage. The thing that has bugged me the most lately was a few months back when a new trailer/gameplay video was being teased and deadlines were missed the community got upset and a bit rude in demanding faster updates/answers. OK, so that was a bit jerky, but then Tato comes back and basically calls everyone out on being childish/impatient, then only shows the trailer to people who are willing to PM him for a private link. I don't think said trailer was ever released to the public. Very immature on both sides. I also get the feeling that letting a select few in to the beta was another stall tactic. I honestly don't think I'm even excited for the game any more, I just have to keep following because it's been 4+ years, I'm too far invested. If I leave it'll just be time wasted. I just want the game to come out so I can be done with it and move on to something else.
Tbh it's the only game I've been looking forward to ever since I joined the forums,For 5s has been a nightmare lag, overheating, outdated os etc.None of the games function properly they either lag or crash too much simplistic games like Bh:legacy would work even on old psp models teuth to be told.I expected a lot from my device and so far it's all been very underwhelming only thing worth playing on it are console ports out of which KOTOR and bastion(both being great ports),limbo was excellent port but very short,Xcom is laggy and crashy and looks like some rookie did the port in a day. Most of all they're all ports none take advantage of the touchscreen or hardware, which is frustrating. This game is the only reason I'm even remotely interested in mobile gaming,I stumbled on this site while I was looking for some good games for my newly purchased device. So ta has been a wonderful place to be at,Devs actually listen and interact with us,The community has been kind, mature and respectable(with some exceptions),The reviews are detailed and very well done and as so is the overall forum design layout,Mods are nice people and very helpful,it's a great site and hence I've stuck to it.Games have been rather scarce and underwhelming though,Hopefully this is the game that fills that void.
This is honestly one of the games i looked at the very first time i found TouchArcade when i was in my teens. Im not someone that attacks a developer for having a long development cycle, hell I'm still waiting for The Last Guardian, and i was waiting for Duke Nukem AND Tomb raider 2013 (which was a 5 year wait in itself). I think people need to see things perspectively, Duke Nukem took decades to be released, and it was outdated, had 'old mechanics' (i grew up on Nukem 3D so it was all native for me) and the people who buy FPS' today are used to Call of Duty like experiences and the game just crumbled - but it really wasn't that bad! Now with Tomb raider it was the opposite, yes it had a few years less of a development cycle than the King, but the series as a whole was in need for dramatic change, GONE are the days of the running jump and puzzles and rooms which revolved around squares and triangles, and tomb raider struggled for an identity for so long. As you know Tomb Raider was released and sold more than any other game of the series! it fit with the times, the story, the graphics, the engine, it was right here right now! Now I see this game as the 'Duke Nukem' of IOS because for hand held gaming it is a long development cycle, maybe it was announced too early, i'll never know. But i believe that it will be as successful as Tomb raider. Horror games like Amnesia and Outlast has given the people the need and the want for Horror gaming, and The Evil Within has horror fans (like myself) salivating at the mouth! People can complain about how long the development cycle has been, and i suppose you can reasonably be upset. But remember this game right now is the best position! The market is demanding games like these! and its time for its 'Tomb Raider' moment Goodluck Devs, i'll be waiting for the [NZ] icon next to your games title
because you should take that as a prevelage, we didn't have that back in the days, and now the graphics are getting better so people want to see all the eye candy, i remember the only thing we got before FFVII was a pre-render pic of cloud standing looool
Why are you comparing a game such as Shenmue to this situation when technology is levels above what is used to be? Games nowadays take five years AT THE MOST. I don't know if you realize but most mobile games to take nearly that long. Some developers can get out a polished game per year. Yes, people are spoiled nowadays but that doesn't mean you bash them over little details of a game that's been in development for five years. Now considering this, it should be a privelage to ask about a release date and new info especially if beta testing started a while ago.
ammmmmm u kinda lost me buddy im on Tato's side are you in my side or the other? lol i sed Shenmue only because people are nagging about how long this game is taking and i wanted them to understand Shenmue was a master piece in its time and a game changer but they had 100mill+ money and 100+ people working on it and took that long, this game is going to be a game changer but they have a super small team and spending mostly from there own pocket and that means allot to me and people should not be so demanding and cut them some slack so we could have one of the first console quality games bug free to enjoy.....
I still got Shenmue 1/2 in original packaging I want to play them again once Reicast has finished for iOS.
I can understand why everyone is frustrated here, i felt the same couple months ago before the beta testing and i cant imagine how it's been for you now that you know the game was already in such a stage but still not out yet. I think the game is close... may be even closer than i think. the thing is, it's been in final stage for some times now which is a very good thing and its also the reason why it can be finished tomorrow or in a couple of months i really can't tell. just remember that this game is being developped by a small team but you really cant tell by the amount of details they've put into it! just to give you an idea when i play the game i feel like it would've made sense even if the game was developped for 7 years with a team this small! I really hate the fact that many ios gamers (actually most of them sadly) unconsciously think its ok for a game to be bad as long as the technical aspect (visuals...) can compensate for that, there are many examples right now on the appstore. so when i got my hands on FM, even as stuning as it looks, i found the game itself shockingly good!! its like they've made an awesome game first... then they decided after to improve the graphics (and they overdid it ). you can quote me on this: T.A. IS GONNA GIVE THIS A 5 STARS REVIEW SCORE!!
I don't understand why you guys are still arguing amongst each other. Tato posted his game on this forum in 2009 to gather interest for the game. Some people are pissed off about waiting for the game, it's their choice. When people like the look of something, waiting isn't very nice least of all when you don't actually know how long you have to wait. This is a forum for people to share their opinions & that's what they are doing here. If you're happy to wait that's fine but bashing others because they're fed up of waiting for a game that's been advertised as a work in progress for 5 years? Not cool. Personally I have my own thoughts on this thread & I'm not going to voice them again. The game looks awesome and that's why I keep checking this thread from time to time.
i only have the first one but it was the first game i could adopt a kitten and feed it or buy toys from vending machine, i bought the original Japanese special edition lol
you are absolutely correct, the only thing is that people still don't know how small Tato's team is and how hard they are working its not a 9 to 5 job for them they are working none stop and they are very dedicated, one example i can give hopefully without being sniped by Tato is that lets just say he wants a Certain part of the game that has water to actually look and act like real water and trust me for a mobile game that's hard to pull off, i understand and respect peoples opinion i just don't like it when some people act like this team owes them in anyway yes it took 5 years but it will be sweet and just imagine how sweeter it be with an update for METAL with IOS 8.
Honestly, even with the kind of work put into this game, I wouldn't want to wait another year. 90% of players wouldn't stop and pay attention to water anyway, the kind of players that exist these days. They'd rather stop a few seconds and stare at the baby doll with a knife in it. I'm sorry, but most developers put in all this work towards nothing, as it seems this game will have a linear storyline, I'm thinking adding a large amount of detail to the game is bittersweet. I'd like the thank the developers for putting all this effort in a mobile game, as the trailer looks awesome. Although people like to see development images and things like pre-rendered objects. Giving information on the games process would be good for a five year run, and would cool down all the impatients.
